back to back
Cameron is so incredibly correct.
I remember back in 1997 when I asked Dan Kramer who Eric Wullf was, and part of his explanation of how hardcore Wullf was was: `he can hit scorpions tail back to back!` That was crazy back then. But yeah, he used the term back to back as far back as 97 back. Back back.

I think people like to argue about randomness on this forum to pass the time. Nothing wrong with that

I haven't read the whole thread - I am with senor grommet- consecutive = alternate; b2b = both sides without any trick between them.
That will be my interpretation if somebody tells me "b2b"
I do not care what others think in that case - seems not that important.

I know that in non footbag world b2b is like 2 in a row. But I have always thought of it as like a mirror for instance db. They are like reversed. They are sitting b2b. I also think that it should be referring only to 2 consecutive moves, regardless of whether it is classed as the "scorpion tail type". Im never gonna stop thinking of back to back as the ripwalk class - its just been stuck in my head. But i can also see doing 2 consecutive scorpion tails as being b2b. Hmmm. In my books as long as it is 2 in a row. Its fine by me now that i think.

C-Fan and Tsiangkun are ABSOLUTELY AND WITH NO DOUBT NOR WHAT SO EVER, UNTILL HELL FREEZES OVER AND HEAVEN BECOMES A WARM PLACE WHERE YOU NO LONGER HAVE TO FREEZE, OVER HEAD AND HEELS; FLAPPERS AND CLIPPERS TO THE DAY I DIE AND THE SPORT WITH VASEK FOREVER AND EVER AND EVER AND EVER ARE WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!!!!!!
Jeremy O'wheel is right.
Anyways, if the two others are right the term has no value nor what so ever.
It means what it's use to signify and IN EUROPE it has meaning, because it means from side to side, consecutive alternative.

just because you only use the term in half the instances where the term applies doesn't make the term invalid in other cases.
You will always be correct using the term in the european fashion, you will be wrong if you correct some who says they hit Eggbeater to eggplant back to back, or back to back votexes, or back to back anything.
It's an expression that has a precise meaning in english, and it means one after another, consecutive.
Back and forth is the idiom for which you search.

Yarr... I believe you know your language, and hopefully I'll understand the person who utters your example, as I hope to understand the man showing up at my session proclaiming he "Hit himself in a swirling ripcurl".
We need to distinguish footbag terminology from ordinary english, otherwise a lot of meaning is lost and confusion will rule our tournaments.
"So did you shred yesteday?" - "Yes, all the secret documents have been destroyed"
What does dexterity mean according to your big book of correct meaning?
"n. Moving a leg over a footbag.
(He did two ~s in before catching it on his foot)" ?
If I said the following to you at a tournament, would nyou not consider it a contradiction?
"Yes, he is fearless, and he only does moves below 3adds!"
In the most contexts hacking is a crime.
(Which partly proves your point; it doesn't ONLY have the meaning of hacking websites etc., but if I asked on this forum what it meant, "hacking websites" wouldn't be a very correct answer according to the context.)
"Back to back", "back 2 back" and "b2b" CAN have a new, practical meaning in footbag, a meaning only "consecutive alternative" can replace.
It's a nice, short term, and therefore I will continue to strongly encourage people to use it with that meaning.

I know people will rarely be bragging about doing clipper-delays b2b, but there must be a theoretical linguistic distinction (was that spelled right?) between doing consecutive clippers [same side] and doing clippers back and forth [opposite side].If somebody told me he'd done clippers b2b I would assume that he meant back and forth and not in one side only.
Using a term like 'same side clipper delay b2b' is silly in my opinion, but hey, English is not my native language,
PS: I can do clippers b2b any way you like it...
PPS: This forum would benefit a lot if people stopped pasting in huge portraits of themselves...

necessity is the mother of invention, and there is no need to rework this expression.RRendsvig wrote: CAN have a new, practical meaning in footbag,
The term already has had a meaning,in footbag since at least 97, and there is no need to hijack this idiom to explain something that is self evident from the trick itself.
ie. Back and forth is a property of tricks which start and end on opposite sides, not a property of the expression 'back to back' or 'back and forth'
Any two tricks can be hit back to back. If you know what the trick is, you know if it was back and forth. If you don't know what the trick is, a word that expresses it went back and forth is not going to help you understand any better.
here is an example where knowledge of the trick makes the back and forth nature of back to back blurrywhirls self evident.Sergey wrote:Ok, but what if I tell you that I've been hitting blurry whirls back to back? Does that mean that I was hitting them one side or both sides?

To re-use Neuhards point:
It is not self evident how you do clippers b2b, nor is it self evident how you do rev. whirls b2b, nor butterflys, nor....
If you don't know what the tricks is, a word that expresses it went back nad forth is going to help you to understand it better.
Ps. I can relate to how annoying it is that somebody wants to change your language. I hate it when it happens to danish!
Majonæse, resurse etc., helt ærlig?!
