Jackblog

Post by Jackbag »

I decided this is probably the most serious I'll ever be about footbag, so why not make a blog. I only play about two or three times a week, but that's a lot for me. I'll start with a quick bio and then my current move and combos list.

I'm almost 23 (just a few weeks to go). I graduated from UCSB last year with a BS in Biopsychology. I'm currently working for the University of Arizona, Department of Physiology as a research technician. I plan to apply to medical school...soon.

I was introduced to footbag, maybe two years ago. I never really thought it was something I wanted to do. I really started to play this summer, though I think I've been reading modified for over a year (so I may know more of you than you think). I've enjoyed meeting a bunch of footbaggers and I really appreciate how cool they all are (from CIC to SoCal). However I've never (and still don't) feel as if footbag is "my community," probably because I think of it as Mirken's.

I'm supposed to feel lucky that I have my own personal footbag trainer and stitcher. Sometimes I don't give him the respect he deserves  but what can I say? I act like a two year old when I can't hit moves I think I should be able to hit. Luckily he still likes me.

I was super inspired when I met Emily for the first time. She's beyond nice and encouraging. I wish I could keep up with her game, and I wish we lived in the same state.

So I guess that's where I'm coming from.

Here's what I've hit:

ATW 10/11/04
flip ATW 10/11/04
Pixie 10/24/04
flip pixie 11/11/04
mirage 11/13/04

ATW>pixie>toe 11/16/04

pixie>toe>ATW 12/18/04
Pixie>flip ATW 12/18/04
Flip pixie>ATW 11/11/04, 11/16/04
Flip pixie>toe>flip ATW 12/18/04
Pixie>flip pixie 11/13/04
Flip pixie>pixie 11/16/04
ATW>mirage 12/18/04
Mirage>pixie 12/18/04
Flip pixie>mirage>toe 11/16/04
Pixie>Pixie>toe>Mirage 12/10/04
pixie>legover 02/06/05
mirage>pixie>legover 02/06/05
legover BSOS

Mirage>toe>toe>Pixie>toe>Pixie>toe> drop flip mirage 12/08/04
ATW>Mirage>toe>toe>toe>flip Pixie>toe 12/18/04
toe>pixie>legover>toe>toe>mirage 01/13/05
ATW and inside stalls BSOS 02/08/05

Ok. I think that's enough for my first entry.

Hey Ameila!

It's good to see you writing and having fun with footbag. It sounds like you've gotten a lot better since Reile's visit to SoCal. Keep it up.

And if you're ever in the 'loo town, give me a hollar ;-] I may be in your neck of the woods sometime in the next month or so.

Hey thanks Mike. You're welcome to stay with us if you make it out!

Tonight I hit my first four two ads: ATW>pixie>ATW>pixie
also hit pixie>flip mirage and pixie>legover>toe>flip pixie.
I hit two same side mirages, and I was close to hitting a third.

I'm still trying to get my insides and legovers more consistant.
I haven't worked on clippers in a while, but as soon as Jeremy remembers... 8O oh boy.

YAY!!!!!

Hey Amelia! I'm so glad you started a blog. It was nice reading about you. And now I can come hound you if you haven't posted in a while. Mike's right, you did get way better since October.

Be kind to Jeremy and keep up the practice.

Have fun!

P.S. Thanks for the nice words. You're one of my favorite people to shred with, and definitely my favorite chick to shred with. Can't wait to see you and Jeremy again.

Well, since she ain't gunna post to y'all, Ill tell you that in her last session, Jack bag hit:

-mirage BSOS! ( i think it was her third time hitting it BSOS)
-clippers both sides (sealed one on strong side)
-10 consec toe stalls, plus ATW BSOS and pixie BSOS in same run

YAY!

Well I'm off to Long Beach for a work conference. I'll be staying on the Queen Mary (fun!), but I won't be visiting anyone in CA (not fun).

The other day Mirken made me try 5 clippers on each side. I hit 3 on my right side, which is an improvement. He also had me try clipper mirage or something. It's possible that I might hit it if I play next week...

Rain and mudslides here I come!

Post by Jackbag »

so i'm back in az again, after hitting atw and pixie on the queen mary

session today with jeremy:

i worked on clippers and inside stalls, lots of work
hit 4 consecutive alternating insides
and then on a jeremy whim, i hit 4 consecutive mirages! (oh so close to 5!)

Yay! Four mirages is hard. I remember a real turning point in how much I liked footbag was when I randomly hit seven in a row in Tim's kitchen. Good work with the inside stalls and clippers too.

Since you like doing four of stuff, I challenge you to do four alternating inside kicks.

kick

Post by Jackbag »

Sheesh, seven? I was afraid to ask you how many you could do off the bat.
It's a nice thought about the four kicks... ...I'll try for Emily

Had a session yesterday, not very long though.
Nothing special:
atw>inside>inside
pixie>pixie>inside>inside

I had 2 beautiful clippers on my left (right? flip?) side, and sealed a couple on my right (left foot? strong?) side.

Jeremy taught me how to do a butterfly. I liked that (not that I could do it) but I didn't feel graceful like a butterfly. I felt like a refrigerator with clunky arms =)

Well it's almost time to leave work =) had two good surgeries today, so I think I might leave soon to reward myself.

toe>toe>drop on flip clipper

but not 4 kicks, sorry emily, i'll keep trying

Nice, I forgive you :D That's great that your strings are getting longer. I can't wait until I get to kick with you again.

more work on clippers...never ending since they are still not good enough
mirken made me to 5 consec pixies, which was fun.

since i haven't worked on combos in months,
here are a few to work on:

flip mirage>legover>mirage
mirage>clipper>inside
pixie>legover>fairy*
legover>atw>mirage
pixie>flip mirage>clipper>toe>atw
atw>pxie>legover>mirage
inside set mirage>inside set pixie
atw>pixie>pixie>pixie>atw

*have yet to learn fairy
