Whoooooooooo.
Couldn't post on monday due to computer problems...so..
hour long session during lunch
worked on illusions and flip pixies and ducking.

Last night kicked with damien since we haven't kicked in a long time. It was an alright session, even though his ankle was hurting. I hit hop-over>ripwalk>blur, then drop on trying a flipside drifter.
Basically going to drill whirls and drifters today. so lets hope for the best.

I tried matching my friend today in the weight room. It didn't work out to well.

My body is sore from my ass to my heels and walking is relitively painful. The guy is fairly big (6'1, 190 or so) and is very powerful. I hadn't stretched at all and sat down on some leg machine and just totally fucking killed myself. It was a bit better when we started doing upper body but he still owned me pretty harshly. Who here can smell the testosterone?

Anyways, I'm afraid I pulled something in my left hamstring, as it is giving me a more signifigant amount of pain than my other leg.

I really want to session Saturday, but I don't know if I'll be able to; I'm in a signifigant amount of pain just sitting down.

2 1/2 hour solo session report:

Concepts/Moves worked on extensively:

- ducking butterfly
- consecutive diving clippers, followed by an intro to diving butterflies
- consecutive osii
- consecutive drifters
- worked on paradox drifter each side
- worked a little on symposium whirl, but only for about five minutes as I quickly tired myself out (it was the last five minutes of the session)

The only real things to note that I hit were:

- Ducking Clipper>Diving Clipper>Repeat x4
- Toe drifter and drifter each bsos in the same string, first try (I've hit this many, many times, but hitting this while warming my drifters up was dooope)
- 7x drifter

Basically I just schooled each of the concepts over and over again on each side, not really trying for runs at all, save for when I was warming up. All in all, a very tiring and rewarding session. It will pay off next time I play. :)

Hey, thought I would give the old footblog an update.

This weekend myself, and others of the RCS crew are heading down to Olympia to kick with the other half of RCS - Jane and Alex Zerbe, Kevin Richey, Matt Baker, and some others I may or may not have met. Originally Dan was going to make it, but he can go and die or something because he has Tolo (lame ass excuse imo ;) ). Thus, we shall not have footage of the session and the RCS video featuring myself and him will take longer to come out.

As for myself, ducking and diving are coming along quite well and I've made some sojourns into atomic lately. I have the technique, I just need to build the muscles to do it on command. (this is turning out be a marginally painful process... thank you crosstraining!)

Also... :)

Yeah, baby! I can't wait to see how these turn out.

Gah... I really want to fucking go. If I had the choice I'd probably cancel my Tolo date but you know how that shit works.

Which of you guys are still going up there?

Sam!!

You're trying out Climas??

I hope you are one of the very few that actually likes them.

I highly recomend you fill in the big gap on the insides of those shoes, you will see.

You will also see yourself exploding through the roof on symp stuff.

Do you normally play in lavers with sidewalls? It will feel way different having none if you do normally.

I look forward to hearing what you think of them.

I rock heavily modded 520's. The instep is removed, they're brocka'd, there's a shoe goo rail, and the other two inside surfaces (toe and outside) are removed. They're niiice shoes. :) I have Lavers, but the only thing that's nice about them is the easy clipper.

Believe me, I'll be adding the rail. I'm mainly excited because I managed to find a pair of the originals!! And further, if I end up not liking them, I'll have a nice pair of shoes to walk around in.

edit: Oh, and session update!

I was going to have two sessions today, but I shall postpone the other until tomorrow, as my bag hasn't dried enough. However, I did have a very productive session. I'm deciding to wait on atomic until stepping is my bitch. Due to the outcome of today's session, I don't think this will be very long. I decided to try and follow my own method of schooling stepping, instead of doing the routine process of schooling stepping clippers until you can get ten in a row. I hit 10 stepping clipper/paradox mirage/mirage/far legover/legover/paradox illusion on each side. This took about two hours as it got really tiring. However, at the end of the session, my sets were very straight and the technique to getting the bag waist high without expending a lot of energy was becoming more natural.

As for where I'm going in the next few weeks, I'm going to repeat this process while I start working more stepping into my runs. While I do this I'll keep solidifying ducking/diving, and the few downtime concepts I own, like drifters and whirls. Then it will be on to spinning and double legovers/eggbeaters... I need to learn flail and incorporate barrage more! So much to do! I can't wait until spinning, though! I dream of merkon>eclectic moves! And there are also two moves that I really want to hit, and I think I'll be able to with some work on the components of each, and ample tries...

Thanks for posting in my blog, Tom! Your positive energy is rubbing off on me. :)

Shitty session today. First one back since Tuesday when I hurt myself and then in turn got sick.

Realyl fucking fucking fucking fucking fucking aggravating. I tried working on my clippers and ate shit instead. I tried stringing and could get 5 contacts at best when 10 or more should be easy.

It feels like I haven't had a session outside a solo session in ages, and I can't remember if that's true or not. I think I smoke to much.

If you smoke at all, you smoke too much. I really think smoking is bad for footbaggers. I`m not militantly anti-smoking with regular people, but if you are serious about foobtag, try quitting.

Sorry about your bad session. On the other hand, I find that real bad sessions are almost always followed by real good sessions, so hopefully you have that to look forward to. :)

Keeping focused is hard to do, but it's mainly a personal battle. You have to figure out what keeps you motivated, and then how to cultivate that factor. Each are difficult things to do. ;) I personally find that a session that is different than what I normally do is what will get me really motivated and into the game.

I finally finished downloading Full Clip by Gang Starr... This album is SO good. I have so much good music to shred to, but no inclination to burn all of it. I think I need to start bringing my laptop in, busting open that stupid ass metal box with the sound system in it with a crowbar, and hooking the audio up to it. Good music would ensue, but perhaps less shred as we would be out of a regular indoor shred location. Fucking YMCA. :-p

Sup fools! Three hour sessions are the shit.

First, though, I figured I would give myself an introduction. As you've probably already gathered, my name is Sam Potter. I'm currently a sophomore in high school. About three years ago I started kicking a hack around with my friends at the end of 7th grade. Up until the 9th grade I made basically no progression. I owned my right outside and my left inside, and could outside stall for a very long time (I think I hit around 20-30 muted outside stalls in a row at the peak of my hacky sack career).

However, at the beginning of 9th grade I heard of this thing called footbag.org through one of my good friend's brothers. Around this time I started working on my stalls on each side and watching footbag videos religiously. In November of that year I saw a listing for SJFF on footbag.org. Seeing nothing better to do (in all honesty, I was very excited :-p ) I hit up the tourney, but for only one day. Sadly, I wasn't able to fully appreciate the tournament, but it had me hooked on footbag.

The following weekend, I showed up at the weekly Rain City Shred session and met Justin Dale. At the time he helped me with picking up the game, and for that I am forever greatful. If it weren't for him I wouldn't have been able to learn clipper on each side, and then other moves. He is one of the most determined teachers I have ever known. Further, his technical knowledge and articulacy in expressing it has fostered a very technical view of the game in my mind, and has turned me into a better teacher as well. Thank you, Justin!

As time progressed, I met other members of Rain City Shred, such as Miles Kelly, Kimi Bartram, Ricky Moran, Kevin Richey, Ian Donahoe, and much later Jane and Alex Zerbe, and Paul Burke (AUGH). The following summer, Miles Kelly, Kimi Bartram, Justin Dale, and Scott Behmer (not mentioned previously as it was him and I who joined the club together in the first place) and myself began holding mid-week sessions two times per week in addition to Saturday sessions. This was one of the most fun and emotionally rewarding periods in my game, as I learned exactly how much fun the game is -- not only playing it, but the relationships you build with other players. As the summer wound to an end, Miles became a Buddhist monk and Kimi went to college in Olympia.

It was around this time, as school rolled around this year, that I started playing on my own. Right before this year's SJFF, I finally stepped into the period of my game in which I've become extremely self-motivated. I have managed since then at least an hour long session a day (up to two-three hours), only taking a break occasionally. It was then that I also met Dan Fearey, my current partner in shred!! At first, him and two of his other friends showed up and started playing. I didn't expect him to stick with the game. However, he kept at it, and in the course of about two or three months quickly became entirely tiltless and bothsided. His average contact length is between 6-9 contacts!! Not only is he inspiring because of his innate skill, he's inspiring because I now have someone to shred with regularly. Ricky and Justin had both injured themselves previously and will be out for a while to come (yet Ricky still cleaned house at SJFF... ).

This brings us to now, a year and three months into my game. I love this sport, and I plan to stick with it. The most inspiring thing thus far have been the people I've met. Thanks to everyone at the last SJFF for getting me so excited to be a part of this community! Hopefully I'll be able to make my mark by holding Rain City Shred together.

Session Highlights:

I played for three hours today, and generally worked on ducking and diving. After schooling that extensively, I worked whirls and touched on drifters -- I'm very happy to be making so much progress with these moves! At the end of the session I made attempts at flipside swirls and symposium whirls to try and increase my flipside clipper strength. It's still not as naturally strong as my strongside, which is discouraging. It gives me something work on, though. The only cool thing I hit (and I hit it a few times) was ducking paradox mirage and diving mirage both bsos in the same run. I'm also liking my swirl style more now. Instead of rolling the bag, I'm setting an inch or two, and doing a full downtime swirl, somewhat like Nick Laroche's swirls.

wee lengthy post

Peace,

Thanks for the look into your past Sam, it's always nice knowing peoples history with footbag.

I like knowing what motivates players to play.

Your hard work is inspiring, keep shredding man.
