I downloaded the .zip file for Quicktime Pro, but I don't know what to do with it. Is this a file to actually install the program or to crack some kind of code on it? I don't really understand.

You extract the .zip file (you should have winzip or some other extractor on your computer for this and it should open if you double click the file).
Then Open the keygen file, input your name and whamo you get a nice registration key that you can use to make the programme think you have paid for it and lets you use it.
Beware this is illegal.

I know, but what do I do with the code? Do I have to find a pirated copy of the Quicktime Pro file and then use the code to register it?

No, you just need to open your QuickTime player, click File > Registration (or similar), input the name+pass, click OK. You should probably download the latest QT first, which is 6.5.2.
Silly me, I actually bought QT Pro when I was on Windows.
Edit: Mr.BalinorNz, my Barrages aren't very valuable- they're not even insured- you may want to send an offer to Mr.Klouda or Mr.Jani because their's are more efficient.

first: thats a codec john!by outsider: And what the hell's a codec anyway?
What's A CODEC?
A video codec (compressor/decompressor) is a program which can write a video into a file or play video from a file previously recorded. There is an extensive collection of codecs for different video types made by various companies, so you need to consider which is best for you.
What CODECs Do I Need?
The codecs that you need depend on the types of video files that you want to play. If you download a video for which you don't have the codec, the video won't play. Downloading the codec afterwards will 'fix' the video. To see if Windows Explorer shows the codec used by a video file, right click on the file name in a Windows Explorer window. Select the option 'Properties' and then the 'Summary" tab. Any of the information available about the file will be shown.

i make a lot of vids. and i actually think mp4 is good, mpg, and the others are all ok. but i use wmv. because thats whats about... i dont know why i use it. they are all good; in fact - the main goal is to compresse the vid donw on less mb's!
VLC is great, but it doesn't play certain .wmv codecs.mosher wrote:Everyone shoukd listen to jared!

Just get it and all this codec complaining can end.

Despite all that has been said regarding wmv, I still export all my videos to this compression because they come out SOOOOOOO small!
I exported a movie of mine to mp4 and it was over 100 MB's, would you have downloaded it?
Would you have downloaded the MP4 had you known that the WMV version came out to 5 MB? That sounds 20 times better to me, personally.
Sure the video quality isn't the best, but that is not what I personally stress in my movies, I just like seeing shred.

I've taken WMV's off of monsterhack, re-encoded them as high quality AVI's and exported that back as an mpeg-1 and it shaved 2 megs off the file size
Then I got a life and went back to work.
Shorter clips are good as MPEG1 played in quicktime or VLC.
Long clips are good as QT .mp4.
WMV's are frustrating.

When I had time to download videos - if I couldn't get a video to play - I would search for the file and download a program that would play it - hence I now really don't mind what something is encoded in because there is a very high chance I can play it anyway - the last time I had a video I couldn't play was when div x somehow caught a virus or something and I had to reinstall it.
I don't think it's a big issue what format vids are in - use whatever format you personally think is best or easiest and if people complain about it being in a format they can't watch - it probably means they aren't that keen to watch it anyway. (I'm sure there are the odd exception - well not really, I'm just covering my arse incase somebody gets pissed off at me

when QuickTime 7 releases, this conversation will render useless.
