Its true, Matt, as appropriateness goes. I'd go a step further and say that your basic cross-body outside stall shouldn't even be called "dragon". That seems too pretentious to me now, for something thats just a little variation on clipper. If we really had the option, and I'd thought of it 8 yeas ago, I would have tried to re-name it flipper (flipper to go with clipper and flapper), but its all too late now. And besides, I simply LIKE the name Dragonstein. I like how it came about as a variation of Ripstein, but it makes me think of Frankenstein (this was almost 7 years ago and nobody had done fairy double swirl yet), but its not Frankenstein, its some new kind of monster, like a dragon made all of pieces of other dead dragons and brought back to life. All of a sudden I feel like a mad scientist...

Tapping, Slapping, Blazing, Shattered, etc.
Just say SS.
Also, I agree with the Pixie Double Down vs. Pixie ss Double Down. Pixie Paradon may make sense, but how about Atomic Paradon? 50% of shredders will say it's ss, 50% will say opp, and 100% will be sure they are correct.

i don't like double leg over for the same reasons as everybody else
i don't like the double down/paradon/whatever because it's confusing just like everybody else
i don't like grifter. i think it's a cool name but when i first heard the name i thought of gyro drifter because it just seems like that's what it'd be, and that has just kinda stuck with me. whenever i hear grifter i think that it should be a reverse drifter or something like that, have a different name and gyro drifter should be grifter

man if Gyro drifter was Grifter, then we would lose Vortex, and Vortex is a sweet name for a sweet move. And it wouldnt match with Spinning pdx drifter ie. Void
Yeh the SS thing is a bit of an annoyance eh, like you want to make sure people know what you are hitting (ss or op side) but remembering so many different set names is taxing.

barfly means somebody alcaholic, who sits in a pub or bar all the time and get drunk....I don't like the name barfly. Whenever I hear "barfly" I picture a fly sitting in a bar drinking a beer and I think: That's stupid.
And Skullsmasher... I don´t know who named it first to Rasmus, but it´s a Danish male name...
What i don´t like is Blacula... it´s just sounds soo stupid...

You know... if enough people start using a new naming convention it WILL change in time.Johnny wrote:But Henry, so does Flog!
From now on "DLO" is MLO, and that would make DSO a DLO, screw that though I think legover should be switchover. DLO doesn't exist anymore. DSO will work fine.
JUST TRY TO STOP ME!!!
I know all the hardcore purists who like how things were done back in 87 are going to bitch, but frankly, I don't care.
I am going to go drill my MLO's.

I'm not a big fan of pixie and fairy, since it's the base of a plethura of moves and it sounds well, too panzy-like, couldn't we come up with a better name for those sets/moves other than pixie and fairy ?? All the other basics make some sense or atleast sound decent, Mirage, illusion, leg over, atw, atomic, stepping, yatta yatta, and then there is pixie/fairy. Just a thought.
More C4 please <3
Wow, this is such an excellent topic, i really appreciate that ken keeps
those comming all the time
Many good points have been made here, and i fully agree that saying
dlo feels wrong ; but i disagree that its too late to change the name to mlo
now, ´since everybody seems to share the believe that dlo is "incorrect".
All we have to do to change it to mlo, is simply using that name more,
(in circles, on forums ect..) and bribing Ellis and Steve with candy to change
it on their websites...
I also agree with qphox, that same side something is less confusing
than giving every set extra names, just because the following components
are same or op side ; but its not really bothering me that much since you
can always use the technical names if a noob like me gets confused.
Same goes for movenames one doesnt like, what ever the reason may be.
And thats what i gonna do with the two move names that piss me off big time : Wändeltreppe and Wahnsinn
Its so weird, that some kids overseas think that german sounding stuff
is kinda edgy or wwhat ever, and dont try to tell me that the guys naming
these tricks had any good reason to do so !
There is no nice sound to either of those, it doesnt matter if you
pronounce em correctly or with an american accent
( i'm german-american, i can tell...)
nor is it funny, nor is there any connection between the words meanings
and the action...
Yeah, and quit all that "über" stuff too, unless you're Jello Biafra, shit aint
kool de la, just because Nietsche used it and the nazis perverted it...
Sorry for this lenghty, preachy stuff, but i got this complex...

My opinion:
It just doesn't matter what it's called. Because I play for the moves not for the names. They are just there to try to explain the movements of your legs around the footbag. But if you're guna be like "Hey I am guna start calling butterfly 'sunshine' now because I perfer it!" Fine. You can do that. Go right ahead. But noone is guna no what the fuck you are going on about.
There are usually two types of players, those who love the technical side of footbag- adds, names and rules.
Those who just play. (these people usually don't know or want to keep up to date with what so and so named the latest trick. But are really good because they just play!!!)
