Evan i s one crazy ass player for only playing for 1.5 years. Montage rake!?!?! what?!?! it was cool shredding with you till we died on sunday night. Louise is the smoothest man on earth. Kenny was an awesome roomate. Lon's 97 contact run was EPIC! i still can't believe it after seeing it. Every single person that I met was cool as all hell so props to everyone. to think i almost didn't go to this thing.... it was not only the most fun ever, but my game improved so much just over that weekend. everyone was great. those montana kids were extra cool. always chill, always late, but always throwing down mad strings. they also added a new dimension to 420

Wooo, I totally fuckin' got grounded on Sunday night! So yeah, that's why no one's heard from me yet.
Thanks for the props everyone, CSS rocked! Evan Gatesman is ridiculous, and like the coolest kid ever. I want more footage of him pumped out so I can watch and be inspired.

Here's my report about last weekend:
This was a good solid Symposium. A special shout goes out to Brad Kaplan, who is quickly becoming a world class event organizer/coordinator. Much love to Chris Holden and Kyle Zender as well for helping out and putting all of us up. I have been to all six Symposiums, it's interesting to watch the changes from year to year. This year there were a lot of fresh faces and talent, and inversely, less regulars from years before. I think of active BAP individuals, there were only four of us, Daryl, Lon, Jim and myself. Dave Holton and Rick Reese were there, but at present they are not practicing. Each year as well there are those guys who show up that are "knocking on the door" so to speak. One year it was Allan Haggett, another year it was James Risden, last year, Ricky Moran and Justin Dale, this year (and by no surprise to me) northwest's own Nate Linscott was representing hardcore. In the shred 30 contest, I had just finished my run (one drop on the last move), and Nate came up to me and said something to the effect of "thanks Red, you just set the trend, I'm going to follow it". Then he ran up there and went dropless! Talk about calling your shot. Nate definitely follows in the footsteps of such great spinning/ducking geniuses as Lon and Ricky. Great style. Other new school players on the rise were Lauren Baum (who started many of his combos with crazy hard links I have never even thought about). Lauren is also extremely fast, not only in his combos but in the mirage walk as well! There was also Evan Gatesman, who is kicking mad potential and brought a perfect mix of creativity and difficult technicality to his sick trick (Zoid Ducking Symposium Whirl). Also, congrads to Stephen Barnes for first place intermediate shred. A big shout out to Kyle Zender as well, he did not get a chance to play as much as the rest of us due to school, but I had a session with him and Chris Holden days before, and Kyle was dropping some skills I was not expecting (Void BSOS, drifter-paradox drifter repeat like seven or eight times, swirls everywhere), on top of the usually hard fours and fives. I got Kyle started in freestyle, and was very proud to see how far he had come. Great stuff!
As for the BAP homeboys, it was just another year of good consistent shred. Daryl showed some stuff I have not seen from him in a while, he's definitely still in it. I keep chugging along, representing about the same way I have for years now. Jim as usual rocked the house, broke the swirl record, and hit his record of 12 or so fives in a row. Even on an injured ankle, that guy is still one of the best in the world. Then there was Lon. I'll be honest, I was a bit surpised the final night. Everyone knows Lon can shred hard and be creative, but in the last couple of years he has been a bit more underground, and had a few a few hurdles (getting really sick last year) and claiming to have knee injuries this year. I didn't see any of that Sunday night. Lon turned it on like I haven't seen in awhile. Around thirty unique fours in a row, fairy double downs/paradons all one combo, Scorpion Tail to Scorpion Tail Rake to spinning rake and so on, lots of huge creative combos, and finally, a 97 contact run. After watching that Sunday night shred, I honestly believe Lon is second only to Vasek. Can't wait for the vid to get put up. I was honored to be present to see it.
Anyway, it was a fun weekend filled with freestyle, four sqaure (Steve G. kicks ass), and partyin'. Special thanx again to the Colorado crew, with these guys the Symposium is in good hands. I look forward to seeing it all again next year.

Damn, I waited 3 years to get to that event and man did it rock! I was so sad when I thought Lon wasn't coming because of his knee, and then he told me he was coming to win, but boy I didn't expect him to be so off the hinges as on Sunday night. I played with him as much as I could just in case we won't be seeing him around as much anymore. Long live mirage racing!
Everyone represented so hard! I really didn't expect to see Luis and Stephen bust as they did. I knew Nate was gonna be tearin it up (as always) but that guys just so NASTY! Pimpske provided the usual fearless showcase, giving us Americans hope of one day catching the czechs. Props on the pendulus and thanks for the yoga Evan Lovely, can't wait for the upcoming videos, and thanks for the dvd. And about Evan Gatesmen, I'd be screaming I told you so if he'd let me talk him up ahead of time, but I guess its better that you all commented on your own. The second I saw the Zoid mullet I knew he was going to win if he went. It's been amazing watching this kid catch me and the future holds powerful potential for him. This summer he's supposed to go stay with Dave Clavens, and if that goes down I think those two will be sufficiently prepared to spank all of us at this merry little sport. It took me three years of teaching tons of kids to find this one, and boy am I glad I stuck with him. Just give me two more years to work the footbag magic (we have three brand new kids and 3 guiltless players besides Evan and I) and I bet I'll have ALL of you wanting to come shred with the Vegas crew.

Of course Loren forgot to mention how totally fucking awesome his own shred was. As I was going over the Shred 30 footage, I couldn't help but think that he was totally on his way to winning, if not for a few badly placed drops.
