Miraging Legover
Miraging Legover
I really admire Johnny and Tom's revollution, in the "what move names do you hate" thread, against double legover. I am a little confused though. I think we should just cut out switchover altogether (to stop the confusion), call miraging legover miraging legover and double legover (formerly double switchover) double legover.
So we're clear:
MLO/Miraging legover (formerly DLO/Double Legover):
toe >> op in [DEX] > op out [DEX] > same toe [DEL]
DLO/Double Legover (formerly DSO/Double Switchover):
toe >> op out [DEX] > same out [DEX] > same toe [DEL]
I am going to start calling these moves by their proper names. It just makes too much sense. A wise man once said,
"You know... if enough people start using a new naming convention it WILL change in time. I know all the hardcore purists who like how things were done back in 87 are going to bitch, but frankly, I don't care."'
So we're clear:
MLO/Miraging legover (formerly DLO/Double Legover):
toe >> op in [DEX] > op out [DEX] > same toe [DEL]
DLO/Double Legover (formerly DSO/Double Switchover):
toe >> op out [DEX] > same out [DEX] > same toe [DEL]

bag is in the air, then two(double the amount of 1) go over the bag. Double Leg Over.
I'm not going to be calling in miraging legover
Stuff that, I have been calling it double leg over for like 4years now. Even if it is to make a correction for the future. It's stupid, it doesn't even matter. If it itches at you that much you need to see a psychiatrist
I'm not going to be calling in miraging legover

I think it's a good idea to get rid of the name Double Legover when refering to Miraging Legover, but I don't think the later is a good idea.
Since Double Legover IS a downtime move, I think it deserves its own name - otherwise it will not be seen as an axiomic component of freestyle. One could fear that people will find it logic to refere to a Blurry DLO as a Blur Legover because a Blur is a Blurry Mirage and "DLO" IS YOU KNOW a Miraging Legover and the entire move then must be a Blurry Miraging Legover and since the only way to shorten the name is by replacing the part you know has a shorter name (Blurry Mirage, Blur) you will do so and end up with "Fog" being a Blur Legover. Reasoning the same way Atomic DLO becomes Atom Smasher Legover and Smog becomes Smear Legover.
Do you see my point?
We don't call Eggbeaters Illusioning Legovers either unless we have to explain it.
I don't have an idea about what name to give it though...
Lexover? as in legS..
I don't know.

If we have names for something, let's keep it that way. They are only names. True footbag is the concret thing that you do with your legs and the bag. Names can difficoult the explanation of a move, but that can always be handeled.
I think DLO is a good name for Miraging Legover and Switch Over for Set > Same/Op Out > Same Toe. Clip set Mirage is one leg over and the far switchover there is another leg over... confusing explanation, but anyways - MLO sounds uncool.
A great opportunity to show that footbag isn't an old sport of bunch of rednecks.
I don't really care what the name is. The most important thing is that people won't use both of the two names, which would make things just hard to understand.
I remember when I started and wondered why miraging legover is called double-legover. It didn't make any sense. I prefer this new system.
Maybe some work needs to be done in the trick databases.
I have to admit that I also like "Switchover" more than "Legover". It sounds more cool.
EDIT: Samma på finska: Olkoot sitten "molo", kunhan kaikki käyttävät sitä eikä vain puolet. Outo sana sellainen "tolo"...

Or maybe "Fog" becomes Stepping Pdx Miraging Legover, "Atomic DLO"-> Atomic MLO and "Smog"-> Pixie Miraging Legover???RRendsvik wrote:...and end up with "Fog" being a Blur Legover . Reasoning the same way Atomic DLO becomes Atom Smasher Legover and Smog becomes Smear Legover .

I am all for this revolution (Could you guess?). I'm not really a big fan of following something just because others have done so. I do however like to follow if what I'm after is better than what there already is. Why continue to call a move something it isnt? I think that is more confusing to call something by a name that makes next to no (logical) sense at all. Calling the former "DLO" a MLO is only an improvement, no? I'm sure I don't have to argue why that is a better name for the move.
No, we don't call them Illusioning Legovers, nor do we call them Illusioning Pickups which makes as much sense as calling a MLO a DLO. Hell an Eggbeater is more of a true Double Legover than MLO is.
I think the term DLO should be abolished, not because it isn't a good name for DSO, but because of the confusion. My goal is to make a name accurate not to confuse the hell out of people. Here is my reasoning. Miraging Legover is CLEARLY more accurate than DLO, therefore when someone uses the term MLO there should be no confusion because MLO has never meant anything but Miraging Legover. DSO has always meant the same thing, in essence a double legover, so there is no confusion there because DSO is a DSO is a DSO. BUT people will probably never agree on the new or the old naming system (DLO/MLO), so when someone uses the term DLO no one will know whether to think of it as a miraging legover or a true double legover. If we don't use the term, no one will be confused.
Recap:
MLO is what was formerly known as "DLO".
DSO is still what it always has been.
DLO is some hybrid of the two, because someone doesn't know the difference between a mirage and a legover, and therefore shouldn't be used.
Regardless of what is to be said about this idea, I'm going to use this new naming convention because its correct, there is no disputing that. People who like calling apples flame retardant underwear can continue on doing what they were before the read this post and forget I even bothered.
I disagree with this. "DLO" has always been a Miraging Legover, and has never been a true Double Legover. So why now would people start calling Blurry "DLO" a Blur Legover, when then can call it a Blurry MLO. You can make moves more confusing anywhere in freestyle if thats your goal, (people that call Reverse Torque- Illusioning Osis for example) and this is no exception to the rule. The same way we -could- call Eggbeater an illusioning legover but choose not to because we don't need to. And isn't an Atomsmasher Legover correct, regardless? I don't know why you would call it that personally when Atomic MLO is useful enough, but calling it Atomsmasher Legover is more correct than calling it Atomic Double Legover. It has its own name that you are asking for. MLO.RRendsvig wrote:Since Double Legover IS a downtime move, I think it deserves its own name - otherwise it will not be seen as an axiomic component of freestyle ... end up with "Fog" being a Blur Legover. Maybe you should ask the person who named it to DLO (Kenny?) before you start to rename it... Don´t u think so?
I don´t think that any of u were playing at that time when this trick was invented... (neither did I...) And now u come and wanna rename it, just becuz u don´t like it? Why u don´t like it? Do u have nightmares cuz it´s called DLO, or what?
but don´t take it as an offense, it´s just my opinion...

No offense taken, I simply think it makes more sense.
And really its not being renamed at all, because miraging legover is its technical name... and moves can be called by their technical names can't they? Thats my attempt at dodging the bullet for the day..

What does everyone else think about this MLO/DLO deal?

I think it's stupid and that you're getting worked up over one of the -last- things that needs change in this sport. (not that it doesn't not make any sense to a degree for certain people -- I actually see the logic in calling it double legover: two legs over the bag, hence double legover
) No one's going to take to the name, anyway. Miraging Legover sounds confusing compared to double legover as it's not distinct enough. Furthermore, if you want to talk about move names that don't make any sense, why don't you go and change 90% of the moves people have named?? Venom? Cheese Processor? Armaggedon? Orangutan??? Yes, these are very descriptive. If you look through the list of move names someone compiled and try and make connections between how the move appears either technically or visually and the move name, you'll find yourself pretty frustrated. Is this any better?
2 point's and a clarification:
1) It's Double Leg Over
2) It's NOT Double legover
you kids are making a huge discussion out of someone's failure to parse english. There are three words to the trick Double Leg Over, hence D.L.O.
Double modifies leg, not a dex, and both legs go over the bag. Wow. 100% accurate description of the trick.
Reaper is the double switch. Notice double modifies a motion, not a leg here. Double switch over.
Miraging legover is ambigous on many levels and poorly thought out.

so like a stepping legover, or like a stepping far legover ?
OR was it more like a magellan ?
I guess it could have been like what has been a double leg over for 15 years . . .
worst move name ever. If you are going to use a technical description, why not use a complete one ? Oh, that's right, this whole discussion is because people don't or can't comprehend the significance of word selection and ordering.
I'm calling the trick known forever as Double Leg Over an Op Miraging Symple Op Leg Over (OMSOLO), it rhymes whth Hans Solo in case you're wondering and it will revolutionize the footbag world.
