BAP needs to rule footbag with an iron fist :P (ie the players who actually made this game) I think in the past people wouldn't just go round naming shit because then the good players would not like them or just think your a dickhead for trying to change the sport that they invented. But now these players who are doing it are just as good and have their buddies to back them up.

Footbag now is becoming ruled by a younger generation. And if they are immature and stupid the game is going to go down hill.

I think the main reason for changing it to MLO is so the person feels mighty that they managed to make the change and will feel proud. Because now the game of footbag is brought to justice! No longer will people be confused every time someone says DLO

Yeh i wont be changing my move names any time soon. DLO is so entrenched now, i would just get tired of saying Miraging legover all the time i think. I know what DLO is, i know what Double Switchover is, and everyone i talk to does aswell, thats good enough for me.

Oh my god, this http://sites.gizoogle.com/?url=http://m ... php?t=8449 is great! Thank you Nagasake!

Well, I still think I'm right in my previous post, but what the hell!

I don't like the names that doesn't follow the systems, but Hey!, that's just me! I would also like to rename Blurrier and Blurriest but it doesn't matter.

I think Tsiangkuns argument was very good, but I still believe that IF changed, more clarity could be obtained. None the less, I don't care enough.
But if I was the ruler of the world, I'd rename a lot of moves.

And I would definatly find another name for D.L.O. than D.L.O. but I would ALSO find a better name than merely the technical description - because I think it's stu-upiiiiiiid NOT to give a downtime move it's own name.
Only when it comes to moves having up- and downtime components I find the technical description (as in uptime component + downtime component) being good...

Tsiangkun wrote:2Double modifies leg, not a dex, and both legs go over the bag. Wow. 100% accurate description of the trick.
This is a joke, right? Its hard to detect sarcasm online. Because, using this definition, `DLO` can be used to describe every single 2 dex trick.

I feel partially responsible for opening this can of worms, but to reiterate why I dislike the name DLO, lets do a thought experiment.

Say you teach a newbie how to hit the following tricks: ATW, swirl, spinning clipper, blender, ducking clipper, mirage, butterfly, and legover. If you then asked this newbie what a `double around the world` was, he would likely give you the correct answer. Same for every other trick except for legover. Yeah, double butterfly and double mirage have different names, but if I say `hit a double mirage` to somebody in BAP, they wouldn`t be confused at all, and would hit a barrage. The only trick which doesn`t follow the `double` rule, is double legover.

If we are consistent with the use of the word `double` in footbag, then a `double legover` should be a move where one foot sets, then the other foot does a double dex ending in a toe delay.

Will the term `DLO` ever change? I don`t know. Its pretty well entrenched in the footbag vernacular. But in my original post I wanted to point out why I think it is badly named move: it isn`t consistent, and it doesn`t make sense.

yeah. It was mostly a joke, but really it's not hard to see the logic behind double leg over. "Leg over" was perfectly descriptive of the "switch over" trick named "leg over", and if double was meant to apply to the number of legs going over the bag, "double leg over" is a great name for the trick named "double leg over". It was probably a really early trick, so it got the most obvious name.

Eggbeater was probably an early trick too, that name is perfectly descriptive of the motion, and differentiates it nicely from D.L.O. The later tricks, which all have double legs going over the bag got different names to distinguish them from each other. If every trick was called D.L.O, nobody would know what the name meant. But really, only one motion gets called "double leg over" even if it doesn't make any sense one logic, it's perfectly sound in another equally obvious sense.

It's just a name, like "leg over" is the name for a "switch over", which probably came about as a name because "double leg over" for the trick named "reaper" was taken. I wouldn't call a "double leg over" a "double switch over", that would be rediculous.

yeah, I don't know. Maybe some older folk know some hostory.

Why not name legover a switchover?

This eliminates many problems. Dso is still a dso. Double legover is still a double legover.

There is the difference between a Leg-Over and a Switch-Over are two different moves - A Leg-Over is completely downtime, and the Switch-Over dex is done peaktime.

I never liked the name dlo either. However, when I first read "miraging legover" I immediately pictured a muted quantum ss legover. :?
