skooling solo
-=Thursday Feb 17th, 2005=-
As of a few days ago, I am starting to train regularly again. Also trying to watch the diet as much as possible. Water. Water's always a good choice.
Yesterday nite was a solid 2 1/2 hour sesh. No uber long strings were hit, but rather some very significant flipside stuff. Flip fairies in particular.I worked on some difficult triple dexes both sides. Hopefully they can be incorporated into runs soon.
I've come to realise my body is ready to do whatever I tell it to do, as long as I'm focused and in the right mindset.
- tapping grifter (sealed; both sides)
- fairy ss symp whirl (both sides)
- fairy whirling swirl
- fairy diddit > run
- fairy paradon (both sides)
My highlight of the night:
ORANGUTAN (fairy eggbeater) BSOS
This is a milestone for me. I remember at my first tournament (Montreal Freestyle Challenge 2003) I hit fairy egg strongside and was totally thrilled. It came to my realisation: if there was one trick that I was extremely far from hitting it would be flip fairy eggbeater. My weakest flip set combined with my weakest downtime element. Hitting the flip into a run with the strong midrun created a feeling of overcoming a giant hurdle.
Not only this, I'll admit it likely took 40 tries or so. It was the end of the sesh, I felt dead tired and wanted to quit. But too often I make a list of tricks in my head and force myself to hit them before I finish. This method is recommended.
To all you solo sessioners: it's understandable to become unmotivated and want to slack off at times. The best way to keep yourself wanting more is to nail that trick, that combo, that run at the very end and finish on a strong point. Even if there's nothing left in the tank, try it until you get it. If you fail a million times, try a million and one. Believe me, you'll end up getting out of it what you put into it.
Go on. Surprise yourself.

Thanks for the reaffirmation. I know when I was learning basic tilt's that I'd get drill each one for like 2 hours straight non-stop, not doing anything else besides that one desired move. I'd try to hit it once, then try to hit it five times consequetively, then ten until it was my bitch. To all you solo sessioners: it's understandable to become unmotivated and want to slack off at times. Even if you don't have it mastered by the end of a session or two, just know that you're going to come back in a day or so and that you will just feel it.

Re: skooling solo
This has been my mantra since everyone in RCS got trashed and I've had to school on my own to get better. Before every session, I make a list of what I want to work on, and what I want to accomplish and I make sure I hit it. Even if I slack and get off track I work that one thing I want until I get it. Knowing that one of the best accomplished solo shredders follows this as well inspires me. Thanks.Jorden wrote:To all you solo sessioners: it's understandable to become unmotivated and want to slack off at times. Two adds and up is tiltless. Tripless is 4+.Atomic_FootOrgasm wrote:tripless run(2adds???)
Really cool blog entry Jorden. I'm a solo shredder who's on hiatus, but your post wa enough to inspire a couple of sessions. Well done!

On March 9th, I played the best footbag of my life.
It is probably the only session of mine I would ever consider EPIC.
The session was 2 1/2 hours long and filmed.
This is the video that sums up everything that happened, and by SUMS UP I mean 11 minutes long.

89.6 MB (large, but worth it)
Simply put, everyone should see this video.
later,
Jorden

Awesome Jorden!
You runs are so unique. You just use tricks that nobody else uses... And your style is pretty unique too.
