There was a pretty funny clip on a German video (Euros '99 I think) that basicly told that story in film. It was pretty funny but full of crap.

its a load of shit. I wrote this on my old site at http://www.geocities.com/olopoz

The History

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Footbag had its beginnins in Oregon City in 1972. Two athletes: John Stalberger and Mike Marshall. Marshall had made a round bean bag and had been kicking it to practise his coordination, while his friend John Stalberger used this to strenghen his legs after a knee injury. The game was called "Hack the sack". They later put their product to sale and called it a "Hacky Sack".

Sadly a heart attack exterminated Mike Marshall. This tragedy enflamed Stalberger's vision to make Hacky Sack an extremely popular game. He later sold the rights to Wham-o after forming the national Hacky Sack association.

Till today Wham-o continue to produce extremely low standard Hacky Sacks, which for an unkown reason are still quite popular. However many companies have breached the copywright law and produced Footbags under the Hacky-sack name.

Today there are roughly three types of Footbag: Freestyle- which involves performing a routine of tricks to music to score points, Hack the Sack- which most amatuers do, it involves Kicking the footbag around to other people in a Circle. Finally Footbag Net- which is a volley-ball like game which involves 2 or 4 people on seperate teams, kicking a footbag over the net in an attempt to beat the opponent.

Over the years footbag has become increasingly popular, many kick just as a leisurely activity with friends, while others do it pro. The footbag future looks bright as more and more people are entering the sport either by walking up to some Hobo on the street or friends teaching them.

That's possibly the best term I've ever heard used to describe the results of a heart attack.

That Hobo was definitely me last summer. Well, I was just hacking, not footbag, but i must have met twenty or thirty people while hitch-hiking around BC who just walked up to me and started kicking with me.

Exterminated is a fucked up word to use in this instance. You should change that.

Firstly, the term exterminate was used to make light of a legends horrible and grissly death. His spirit lives on through the shitty wham-o bags. We dont need to say goodbye (no offence intended)

Secondly, its not my fault the topic starter brought up footbag. In fact if anything I was helping the topic. I was puting it to death.

Yep four square is awsome. I don't know if anyone like only plays four square though, it seems mostly just something to do when your too tired to freestlye or net...

its like tennis. There is one game: tennis that you go to wimbledon and other grand slams to play, but there are games that are like around the world (the tennis game) that are games to play, based on tennis, if you get my drift...

how the fuck can you think it 'appropriate' and 'funny' to describe his death as an 'extermination'? Thats pretty sick. He deserves better than that... some respect.

Dude that's pretty fucking disrespectful of the inventor of this game.
If you didnt intend to offend anyone you shouldnt have posted stupid
shit like that.

And frankly, it's annoying to scroll thru that HUGE photo every time I encounter one of your posts. Could'nt you have made it just a little smaller :?:
