my first footbag injury :/ wee....

twisted my ankle the wrong way when the outside of my toe hit against my thigh for a flip toe grifter. it's aching and hurting more just thinking about it, which is a little strange...

Hopefully I won't be out for too long, i want to be in good shape for that bar mitzvah in a few weeks.

Oh Matt it's so bad that you have twist your ankle... Heal it carefully and faithfully. It should be completly healthly befor you will start shredding. I hve some experience with twisted ankles. Last time when I did it on start of January I thought that it was only some light twist, and start shredding after 3 days off, and it hurts sometimes even now.

Hey Pawel, thanks for the advice. I believe I am going to stay off it until I'm totally ready. it's swollen and stiff today, but I can walk (a little slowly). I'm rubbing camphor cream on it and wrapping it some of the time. It feels better today, hopefully stretching will put me in better shape.

I think I should stop playing when I'm exhausted from my day's sinfulness... my sharpness and balance and energy and ability are all brought down a few notches when I've been spending my day putting so much effort into mellowing myself out

So yeah, now I have to chill for a few days, I wonder how long I'll be out...

Time to start planning for Euros / Worlds...

Oh man. DON'T stretch this ankle befor it will be 100% good! This is the worse think you can do to it! When you will stretch twisted ankle then all the damage will heal mad long! Unfortunately I had to chek this in experience myself :(
You should use RICE thing... so: Rest, Ice as oft as you can - for about 20 minutes everytime, Compression, Elevation...

:/ I've been stretching it since last night, bogus... that's too bad, it's been feeling better from stretching, more loose and more comfortable. I'm keeping it compressed, but I haven't iced. I'll stretch less. Thanks for the heads up...

8O The toe grifter? Oh man what an evil move. First mocking me more than once by being off my foot and THEN claiming Matt Cross. Oh it will pay.

Hope you feel better, Matt. Sucks this had to happen but at least it happened before the warm weather came out. The ankle will heal, a short recovery time? and THEN? SPRING SHRED! oh I know we're all excited.

Operation "Get More People into Footbag" begins this spring?

Pat, that operation has been going on since I moved to Rochester 5 years ago. Glad to have you on board ;) I think the recovery on this ankle is going to be short. I didn't experience a lot of pain, and I was able to walk pretty soon after hurting it. I'm definitely not freestyling for as long as it takes for me to feel all better, and I'm wrapping / tiger balming my ankle. It feels okay, just not shredworthy.

Jared, not only am I shredding at a bar mitzvah, I'm being paid $250 US to do it ;) Apparently, this company from Long Island that sets up special performers and events at parties contacted Eric Windsor of Monsterhack.com, and he posted on modified saying that they needed a freestyler for a party in Long Island, and being that I've done plenty of demos and classes, I've taught lots of people the basics of footbag, and I love performing (and getting paid to kick), I shot him an email as soon as I found out, and he hooked me up with the agent. It's on the 26th. I'm sure my sore ankle will be feeling better by then. For this kid's bar mitzvah, his dad is also hiring an airbrush artist and a glassblower...

Now, is this one hipped out bar mitzvah or what? hacky sack, airbrushing for little phish and grateful dead logos all over everything, glassblowing for little custom bowls for party favors... hahaha.

It's gonna RULE. I bet they've never seen anything like freestyle footbag before.

matt's crankles have cranked too far! :? that sux... I'm sure you'll have it recovered in a lil while, and back to shredding when you're ready.

We should definitely start planning for our event, need to find out a good date first. What events are going on in May on East Coast?

Nothing's going on in May, except events in Europe and the West Coast. Anytime that month should be good.

Let's have a session soon, as many of us that are able. I'm on spring break, and my plans have changed (ie I no longer have plans) so I am mostly free the rest of the week.

There are unannounced events in May that haven't made it to the forum or .org. But Pete announced like 5 or 6 events in Philly, I know a lot of them are not in May, he announced Funtastiks, ECC, and the event in summersville NJ which is at the end of April i think. But I know he mentioned 1 or 2 that were in May, need to check up on those.

As for shred I'm free all day tomorrow, but I'd like an ealier shred if possible around 12 or 1. Fridays are always good say... 2pm @ SAU.

nice on those new double over moves, and both sides! great man!!!! glad to hear.

The bar mitzvah people actually asked that I be the only one. I'm not sure if that's because they only wanted one person, or because they only want to pay one person. Are you going to be in the area on that date? I can look into it further.

I can't wait to play more footbag.

Ah! The double dex master he strikes again! Hey steve would that be a dimiest? I know the flip pixie is still a little low so major props for that.

let it be known to the RFA that I'm working on double dex tricks with the OTHER foot. There will be another steve in our midst soon enough. . Perhaps after break if I shred as much as I think I am. I most likely will since there's nothing else to do. Plenty of high school and mall shred at hand. AND that footfighter may be coming (or it may have already come. My parents don't like telling me when they arrive  )

The ankle is feeling much much better. it still hurts to stretch it, but it's easy to walk on, feels very stable. I hope to be freestyling by saturday. I'm going home to see the family and to play music at my little brother's birthday party, and one of his friends has been following my footbag career (as my little brother put it). He has lavers and everything and really wants to play, so that's the goal for my return to complete and total shred domination.... playing by saturday. I think that's going to work out just fine. Can't wait.

This bar mitzvah coming up is going to be great. I'm hoping I can find a freestyler to stay with in the Melville / Long Island / NYC area after the bar mitzvah so we can play a little bit and I don't have to do lots of crazy driving.

I'm meeting up with a teacher for the Roc City School District after work today to sit with the coach and discuss the footbag demo I'm going to do for his afterschool youth group. He says it will be well paid (that detail hasn't been fleshed out yet, of course ;) ) and that the program starts monday, so I could be doing this demo as soon as the next week or two. Which I'd love. This is going to be a lot of fun, I love getting paid to play footbag, and I LOVE having more players to play with in the area. So maybe I'll get both the things I want.

Waiting, waiting, waiting patiently for that mosher footbag... Can't wait to boot it around with my toe and bring it to sessions and squish it in my hand. If it works out, I could see a few other members of the Rochesta Legball Faction wanting one, there's a few of us in dire need of a good footbag...

back to worktime...

dude you could totally turn this stuff into an official part-time business, especially with your legball resume. I can see it now, The Matt Cross School of Footbag, coming to a community center/school/park near you 8) I'd love to see commercials for that.

oh yeah, I should've noticed that Funtastiks and ECC weren't on the event listing... but how did I not hear about the summerville jam?! maybe I did, and it slipped my mind. Whatever the case, it's gonna rule.

we are in dire need of good bags? Huh? Where have I been? Ooooh that's right. I've NEVER HAD a good bag myself. . except for this bead hack with a biohazard sign on it. That thing was the most shreddable bead hack known to Pakistan (where it was bourne'd).

I second the statement of the above post by Chris; this summer and next fall is going to be very VERY fruitful. I'm not at naz and I may no longer be in the RFA faction but I'll be in the area-ish and I can make them.

oh and we should probably stop calling it legball. Apparently it means something completely different in california and people may get mad. We need to be a likeable group.
