INVADER ZIM!
(edited to make a better 12th page post starter)
I was pretty nervous that night, but all turned out well. I feel so much better, so much more relieved. It's like I can breathe again.
I didn't get to sleep until 4am, then woke up at 7ish to head to school. I won't be kicking tonite and going to bed early to make up for the lack of sleep. Lord knows I (and my legs) need it.

Friday, March 18th. ShrEdmonton will be promoting footbag through the magic of television! Booya! Mr. Regamey will be doing the talking, explaining about footbag and what not while Rory and myself will be performing Shred 30s (at the same time due to time constraints). Afterwards, he will also perform a 1 minute choreographed routine.
If that doesn't get people interested, I don't know what will.
Tonite's session was decent. I basically worked on doing longer runs. That's all I'll be doing from now until the our big tv debut. I am also learning how to juggle, in the hopes that I can start out my shred with a bit of foot juggling then going right into it. I have a few things in mind which I would like to hit so I'll focus a lot on those.
I guess the highlight for this session was getting 10 contacts of juggling, Mobius bsos and a pendulous (is that right?) set Spinning Mirage. Oh, while one footbag was on my support leg/foot, I did ATW > Clipper > Far Legover. I felt so pro.

I kicked twice today, which were the first sessions since Thursday. I've been letting my calf heal up and right now it feels a lot better. The Ibprofen (sp?) and cold packs really helped, that's for sure!
The first session only lasted for about an hour, and not much came out of it. I felt a bit tired and drained as it progressed, I was pretty off on everything and it was a pretty slack session in general. The second session was a lot better - I took my time and went over some of the things that I was rushing myself with until they felt under control again.
As the session progressed, I hit a new PLO record, worked on pixie sets a bit, worked on fairy sets, then worked on stepping. All of them went pretty well. I'm so happy that I can finally start doing stepping sets again. Towards the end of the session, I worked a little bit on DATWs and DSO. They were fairly decent considering I haven't done them in a while. Barflies also felt pretty strong this evening.
Some of the highlights included...
Fear > FLO > rpt
Spanishfly second attempt - close to weakside
A few good contacts with juggling...
Umm... Muted Pixie Clip > Blur > rpt
That's about it I guess. Tomorrow, if my legs feel good, I'll start going over the BOPs again.
Hurrah for healing!

My knee hurt a bit today due to gym, but it was still good enough to have a kick.
I worked a lot on Whirls.
21 contacts of Butterfly > Whirl
Spinning Whirl x 3
And one run that had Vortex bs and ended with Mobius.
That's about it - I felt a bit low on the energy going into it but I kept at it anyways. I am averaging around 3 contacts of juggling now. Woo! I suck, but I will get better

For some reason, my right knee was really acting up yesterday. It hurt to extend my leg, or even wear my knee brace for that matter. It may have been from when I was running for the bus that morning, but I honestly can't see how that could make it hurt so much. Atleast today it felt much better.
I basically worked on strings again, getting my consistancy back. It was pretty good, I had some real nice long runs that could have easily breached 30 seconds for the demo. I'm going to be doing a lot of spinning, so I worked that as well.
Something that I thought was nifty that I hit midstring was...
Ducking Clip > Ducking Clip > Osis > Ducking Osis > Osis > Ducking Osis > Far Legover > ss Clipper > Spinning Ducking Clipper > run
That felt really smooth and stylie, with the spinning of the Osii and whatnot.
Damn I'm so excited for Friday!
A-Channel! Tune to it at 7:45 and 8:15 in the morning (my time - mountain time)!

I'll try this again, though I really feel tired and not-in-the-mood to do much. I typed about half of the weekend's activities last nite, then it got deleted. Sooo, here I go.
I arrived in Edmonton at around 9pm, met Kevin and Rory, then proceeded to have a kick. It was pretty mellow, everyone was working on their skits for the demo. I had a few good runs, but I can't remember them very well. I think I had one with Torques all over the place? Blah, it's all so fuzzy.
Rory had to hit the road at around 10:30 - 45ish so Kevin and I messed around. He got me trying Rev. Swirling ss Pickup and Miraging Pickup - the later we both came equally close to hitting. Kevin was trying Miraging blob bloop (Yeah, I'm not going to spoil it for him. WHEN he hits it, it'll be sweet).
We retired to his place and commenced in the watchage of Jordan's epic session. Fuck. Can you say insanity? He is Canada's Vasek, no doubt about it
We got up at 6. Or should I say, we struggled out of bed at around 6 and by 7 were on our way to the studio.

Alright, I had a sweet session tonite but I will finish the weekend journal first.
----------------------
The studio felt pretty warm - the people who worked there (except one camera man) all seemed pretty hyped and good natured. If only you knew what went on when the commercials were running
.
We signed in and got put into a room behind the host where we immediately begin to warm up and stretch. By this time, we all were very nervous (atleast I was anyways). We had about 30 min to kill, but that went by quickly. Before we knew it, the people brought us out and we were in front of the cameras!
Kevin spoke to the host, explaining all about footbag and got me to show the basic tricks - Mirage, Illusion, Legover and Pickup (I dropped the second Pickup
). Shortly after, they kicked in the music and it Rory and I's time to shine! A few seconds into it, we actually made contact with each other (watching the tape over agian it appears that Rory actually slapped my arm while we were shredding
). As awkward as that was, we didn't drop then. As soon as Kevin said "Now if you look at Byrin, he's performing most of his tricks on both sides." I got real nervous, and dropped a Rev. Whirl. I picked up the bag, set it on to a Clipper then tried again. Drop.
FUCK!
I basically said fuck that, and went back to some Mirages and Far Legovers. I dropped an Osis about 4 tricks later
. Dear God. I had to redeem myself somehow so I did a midstring Torque. The host was pretty pysched about that, then we finished. I tried a DLO - I should have done a DATW instead - and failed miserably just as the camera faded out into a commercial break. Rory nailed a lot of Pixie shuffle and a few Ducking Butterflies, which was very nice. He expressed more of what 'shred' is than I, so props to you Rory!
When Kevin's time to perform his choreographed 1 min routine came, I got nervous again. He didn't do so well (in his opinion), dropping his easier tricks BUT he landed his Flails and Assasan like nothing. He also hit Phoenix in between segments (which was also on camera). I know he wasn't happy with his performance, but I don't think any one of us could have done better and he still deserves some props for it. We got out of there at around 9.
From there, I was at the U of A while Rory was in class. I read my English book, the university's newspaper and slept for a total of 3 hours then decided to go into a corner and shred. I basically drilled Rev. Swirling ss Pickups and managed to hit it bsos a few times. I also hit Miraging Pickup (all the dexes hippy) during that session (that trick is totally funked up). That lasted for roughly 2 hours, and by 2pm Rory was done for the day. We went to Denny's at around 3 and got all our meals for free because of some incident in the back, which was AWESOME. Rory and I both ordered breakfast meals. Mmm, pancakes with bacon and sausages and eggs and hashbrowns
---------------------------------
I'll leave it at that for now, and finish the rest tomorrow since it's already 1 in the morning :/.
Onto the session...
I drilled Barrages and Double Over Downs mostly, but I also worked on Double Pickups and Rev. Swirling ss Pickups. I was doing really well, and managed to hit some new links and two good drills:
Dod > Barrage [rpt]
Dod > Barrage > Toe Barrage [rpt]
Dod > Rev. Swirling ss Pickup bsos
Tomahawk bsos (they felt really strong this session)
Rev. Swirling ss Pickup > Toe Barrage bs (I couldn't bsos it for the life of me and ended up hitting it on bs so many times)
Rev. Swirling ss Pickup > Dod bs
Toe Barrage x 4 on weakside and x 3 on strong side
I was very happy with those. I want to be able to spin and step out of Whirls better, as well as link Rev. Swirling ss Pickup out of / into more tricks.
Most likely, next session I'll go over Barrages, Double Downs and Rev. Swirling yadda again, then work on Whirls and Drifters for a bit. I'm a bit hesitant on doing DLOs since they are the reason my calf started hurting but I may go over them a bit.

Oh ... I see another person who likes Rev. Swirling ss Pickup! I hit it for the first time on last session, and I just love this move. This will be a move that I will use pretty often in my strings!

You got that right Pawel
That trick is so stylie when you throw it midstring in between shuffle!
I kicked for about 3 hours today - first session in about 2 days. It was pretty sweet. I worked on stepping and pixie sets, then moved over to work on Drifters and a tiny bit on Torques. I also went over barraging a tiny bit. Anywho, here's the turnout:
Weakside Barroque
Flurry bs
Drifter > Torque > Drifter > Torque bs
Drifter > Drifter bs x2 in one string
That's basically the turn out, but it felt pretty productive. I should upload an attempt of Warp on here - I came real close to hitting it today.
Oh, I also got off some real clean fs Furious sets as well. I don't try them too often since they are so hard on the leg, but it'd be sweet to start hitting things out of them. I think I can definitely tag a Butterfly and a Legover out of it.

Easter break was nice. I went up north to Peace River for 5 days to visit my friends. It was also a good resting period for my legs, since I only kicked once that entire time.
Yesterday I had my first session since. Well, I had two sessions yesterday which totalled for roughly 4 hours. The first one was pretty goo d- I drilled pixie and stepping sets until I got hungry. The second session I went over a large variety of things. It was that session I hit Rev. Torque and Gyro Rev. Torque on both sides.
I kicked for a little bit this afternoon, but I didn't have a very good sleep the other nite so I felt drained quite fast. My consistancy was off, but I came close to hitting Pdx Rev. Torque. I also had Mullet off my foot bs on first attempts.
It's very nice outside, and if I can get my fitness report done quickly I'll see if I can have a session outdoors. It would be such a nice change.

I had a 50 minute kick outdoors, which was alright. Chilly, wet and I couldn't find a proper spot that was even so that threw me for a loop.
I hit my first back to back 3 dex combo. Smog > Fusion! I had it off my foot on my weakside a few times, and also came close to Fusion > Blurriest.
Must go finish reading short story!

Thanks Sam! With my knees starting to feel better (they seem to be having their good days and not-so-swell days) I can finally start to pick up the pace again. A few symposium / more stressful things here and there. I'm a fan of Torques and as of late have been using pixie shuffle a lot. Also spinning and gyro has to be two of my favorite components.
Anywho, tonite's session with the crew rocked. I drove out into the city (that was a first) and had a 2 hour kick with them. It ROCKED. Everyone hit something outstanding or totally sweet, which is what I like to see come out of sessions.
Rory hit my challenge of Muted Atomic Clipper > Swirl midstring! I was all
! He also had some sweet runs too! Rory is getting so much better, the improvements in his game are so outstanding. Kevin had some solid shuffle runs and he hit / came close to some HUGE tricks. I'm talking tricks that would destroy the shins and then some but because Kevin is indestructible in that way, he is free to do them as he pleases.
As for me, I hit Barroque for the them and almost had Torque > Barroque. I also hit Gyro Rev. Torque and Flurry first attempts (I don't know how). My runs were fairly decent as well. A lot of pixie shuffle, ducking and spinning stuff. I know one of my runs had Torque and Mobius bs and ended with an unsealed Marius. I know in a lot of my runs I did consecutive Ripwalks for Rory! Oh oh, Smog > Fusion first attempt in front of Kevin!
A new fearless linky - Tomahawk > Pdx Torque. One of the sides it was way unsealed, but the set was there and I know I can do it again.
Blurry Torque was also in there at the end, but I felt as though I scooped the bag too much.
I smell a new 5 > 5 > 5 combo coming on
EDIT - I talked about the session but I'd also like to add a few other things that happened today.
We went out for PE to the city and did 10 pin bowling and rock climbing. I scored 95 in my first game and then 104 in my second. I'm not a bowler, so I was happy with those scores. How our teacher marked was that if you got in the triple digits you got 100% as a mark (for whatever the hell it was he was marking us for). Oh yeah, 100% for the B - Weiner.
The next was rock climbing. Now, despite the fact that I have a fear of heights, I had a lot of fun. My hands, fingers and forearms are so sore though - I can't clench my hands into fists despite the fact it was 10 hours ago.
One thing I'm especially proud of though was that I climbed the wall. Yes, this is a big deal for me because (I'd like to put emphasis on this) I am afraid of heights. I am not sure exactly how high the wall is - I heard both 68 feet and 90 feet. Maybe I heard wrong, but it was a heck of a ways. Anywho, despite being incredibly anxious and a bit tired I told myself that before we left I would climb it.
And that's what I did.
At times I had to stop and cling to the wall for what felt like my dear life. I shook (literally shook) almost the entire time I got above the half way point and also felt like my fingers just COULD NOT hold on to the rocks any longer. At one point I felt myself slipping because I was shaking and somehow managed to grab this small green rock just as I felt as though my arm could not hold on any longer. That was about 5 feet from the top, and for the rest of the way I focused on the instructors words of using my legs and my own thoughts of encouragement. I wasn't going to let myself down - I wasn't going to fall and I will force my body to move on. I also thought of how this is like footbag and you should NEVER give up or give in to something that feels too difficult. You just have to beleive in yourself and find more strength from within.
A bit spiritual and deep, I know, but that's how I felt when I was on that wall. Despite having my heart beating rapidly in my chest, despite my body trembling and my arms and fingers plaqued with fatique, I pushed on. I overcame my fear and acheived what I set out to do.
Yes, it was a good day for Byrin. Good day indeed.

I'm a bit afraid of heights too and couldn't imagine myself climbing. It was cool to read how you fought with yourself and won
Props for Drifter > Torque (rpt)! I would really like to hit that drill, but it's hard
Barroque, Flurry BS, Smog > Fusion?
You hit some really nice stuff, keep doing it

Thank you Szymon! Hopefully I will be back into footbag full tilt once my knees are get 100% healed.
Speaking of which, my knees are already feeling so much stronger now, and all thanks to the supplements which Lon (backed by Red) suggested. Thank you so much Lon! I've only been taking them for a week, maybe a bit longer, but already I can feel the difference. No more worrying about climbing stairs!
Rory and I kicked outside of WEM this evening. It was sooooooo fun! I brought my camera and we packed it full of footage! No serious shred, but the whole session was light-hearted and just a blast to do. I thought my consistancy was pretty poopy, but I think I made up for it with a few good shuffle runs and some PHAT tricks!
Rory was doing pretty well also, but alas! I shall let you watch it when the video comes out! Beleive me, it will 10x better than the last one (3 am Shred) and then some. You can actually see the bag this time and we both are fearless... to go guiltless!
There are also rumours that Rory hits his first trials! Woah
! Word on the street also has it that Byrin came SO close to a killer 5 add! WHO KNOWS?!?!?!
