Stretching?
This may seem like a stupid question, but does anyone stretch before they kick? Also, is there any way besides just standing on you ankles to stretch them? Because I can't get an inside stall if my life depended on it.

Stretching is VERY important no matter what sport you do.
To practice insides just keep stretchin' them like that and standin' on them, just keep focussing on keeping your foot parallel to the ground. Practice, practice, practice...and remember, in footbag, there are no "can'ts" just "haven't yets" (I forgot who said that...)

Your ankles will get more crank as certain muscles become stronger and certain muscles become more flexible. So stretching alone won't be the magic, keep playing with a combonation of stretching. Also a lot of angle from your ankle comes from how you bend at your knees and pivot at your hip. People with ankles that aren't very flexible use a little more bend at the knee and pivot a little more from their hip to get a good stalling surface.

What helped me starting out when my ankles weren't felxible was pretend to be writing the ABC's with your ankle. This gets the ankle able to move in any sort of direction, and really gets it very flexible.
Also just place the bag on the side of your foot and sit there until it burns and then repeat. This should help you on your way to hein inside stalls.
Also you gotta remember to wrok both sides, get your flexibility up on your flipside as well.

Re: bad?
yeah, the same way touching your toes all the time would be bad for your hamstrings. you can't just rip a your tendons, but constant, low pressure stretching is almost never bad for you.targo wrote:wouldn't standing like that all the time be bad for ur ankles???
there are a lot of myths out there about not stretching before you're warmed up, etc. but according to my sister's physiotherapist ANY stretching, at any time, is better than no stretching. If you can't stretch before, stretch after, but try and do both, and stretch during too! and man, does it ever start to feel good...

If your legs are sore or feel tight then stretch. Take your time with the stretches, don't rush them. Even if you have never stretched your legs before and have never had any problems I would suggest that you try it out anyway. If you can stretch your legs and whole body for 20 minutes before a shred session then you will feel so loose and be able to play for longer. The feeling is great trust me. It only takes that one time where your muscles and tendons have tightened up on you to cause an injury. When you stretch you make sure that doesn't happen, and at least know if you are close to a muscle pull.
Always Shreddin

abc methods kinda what i did, i just lay on my bed sometimes and put my feet in the air and make my ankles crank and twist and dance together. its kinda amusseing. but really dose the trick, holding the shape of some your stretchs is what alot of ppl forget to do. rember to lock them. move like a robot. and rember swaing your knee/hips will help u make more of a stretch to stretch out them musceles.
sorry for the spelling, drunken post.
have fun.

Yes, it is very bad for your ankles.targo wrote:wouldn't standing like that all the time be bad for ur ankles???
Trust me on this, ive done it for years and my ankles are weak as crap, I cant do any moves like butterfly/whirl/dod because my ankles roll so freeking eaisily.
DO NOT STAND ON THE OUTSIDES OF YOUR ANKLES!!!
What it is infact doing is streaching the tendon so that when you land funny (inevitable) the tendon wont stop the ankles motion, it will instead simply let the ankle roll.
A GOOD way to gain ankle flexability is to catch an inside stall, and bend your ankle as flat as possible IN THE AIR for as long as you can, and then do the same with ankle in clipper possition (this part is mainly to improve ballance). Doing this exercise will streangthen the mustles round your ankle and allow you to bend it further and more eaisily.
