How do you figure? This is the most senseless comment ever. Robbers would continue to use guns whether or not criminals did and vice versa. And it;s to late in the US? What does that mean? Cops carry guns all around the world, that isn't going to change in any country, whether it is America, Denmark, or Vanuvatu.Like if the police dont use guns the robbers will not neither.. Of course its to late in the us.. But anyways..

I saw a show on the Discovery Channel (maybe) that said something about the fuzz in the UK or Britain (I don't really know the difference) don't carry guns and there is less violent crime there. I don't know for a fact so please don't rip my head off if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure they don't carry firearms.

I hear now that smelling pot is not a probably cause to search you anymore. But on the speed chases, I think that people shouldn't run from the cops in the first place but If they do. I suggest they take down their plate number and let them go. Just get them later on instead of risking others lifes.

in PA if you are on a motorcycle an the cops chase you an the presute reaches 100mph the cops have to stop the chase. witch is kinda stupid bc what has all ready been said, every one on bikes take off when the red an blue is behind them bc hiting 100 on a nice bike isnt all that hard and going in the middle of traffic is easy. if i go to one of the citys around my house an hang out there all day i bet 100$ i would see at least 1 bike chase that would last like 2 mins. i see them all the time. its kinda funny watching the bike take off like light an the cop just is siting in traffic with its lights on. it almost seems pointless for them to try.
In some states it's not but most places it still is. You could go to NORML to find out.
On the chases
The majority of high speed chases involve stolen cars, so the licence plate thing wouldn't work in those cases. I think the fuzz should be able to follow them, but at a reasonable distance. The po-non interceptors are usually fast enough to catch up to the average car in a chase so they should just stay back. I don't agree with the PIT manuver. I watch those chase shows alot and they've fucked up alot of other cars when doing the PIT. Both the 5-0 and the criminal should be liable for the damages they cause.

Sweet! It's good to support such a great cause. I've been going to the site for news, laws, and my rights for about 5 years now. I wish I could afford to send in money but I can't. I send letters to my congress and senate people though.
Back to the chases
The man can't continue a chase in Havelock if the speed goes above 80 in any motor vehicle. It doesn't matter though because if you're doing 80 in Havelock you'd probably only be here for about 30 seconds and the state troopers or the sheriffs dept would get you.

In the UK and many other countries the police do not carry guns.
I've seen statistics clearly show that in any situation of conflict - people are more likely to die if there is a gun involved - this includes being in a situation where the other person has a gun and you don't - you are more likely not to get shot than if you had a gun as well. I think the stats were at www.greens.org.au (or .gov.au) - under gun control I guess.
The same goes with car chases - people are more likely to drive fast and dangerously if they have a reason to - ie trying to escape the police.
This issue is really an ethical issue - in cases where it's possible to stop the car in safe manner - ie blocking off the street - the idea of not chasing does not apply. It's only when there is a persuit underway - with the likely outcomes being - the person decides to stop and pull over, they crash or they get away.
If they were going to stop they probably wouldn't be running away in the first place - thus there are really the two options - a crash or they get away.
So from the point of view from the police - the only way they get a result from chasing the criminal is if they have a crash. Is it worth putting lives at risk - especially the criminals to catch them? In most cases we're talking about very petty crimes - so it really comes down to a question of - is the value of the crime greater than the value of the persons life (and any passengers).
Personally I don't believe that anything is worth more than a human life - and as such the idea of risking life to catch somebody guilty of car theft is unethical. Obviously it is a different situation when letting the person go is likely to endanger more lives - ie if they are serial killer - but usually that's not the case.
