I love that way of explaining it! It's awesome, because there is so much truth to it. I'm going to start refering to moves I can only hit one sided as half of the trick. Thanks ;)

To say that i can hit half of a symposium whirling swirl sounds like i can do the whirl but not the swirl or something like that...
If your going to go that route how bout just consider saying it singular for one sided, and plural if you have it on both sides.

for example. "I finally hit eggbeater!" vs. "Ive got eggbeaters down."

P.S. I heard randys hit reversiuses.... awww maybe not

aw now i feel bad for posting nonsense, i mean we can debate what we call the stuff here, but the purpose is to i guess standardize the terminology, but some people will always call a pixie drifter "smifter" instead of smoke... even though that would only fit with a swirling drifter or something...

Footbag is about freedom, you should feel free to call it whatever you like. If lots of people call it the same thing, they'll all know what they're talking about.

I think you guys are forgetting one of the most important parts here. I don't know about you, but I think Flipsider is a cool ass company and wouldn't want to ruin it, or have Eli's hard work go to shit and be cast aside like we cast aside the term hacky sack because its not part of our lingo (I do too, just using an example. ) And, even if I didn't like the term (which I do, I think flipside is cool beans) I wouldn't want to change the way footbag has evolved, just as I support not changing move names.

And darkwalf is a bad ass trick, one of the select few I don't have captured on video, maybe I can hit it...

SWITCH

Hey, this is my first post, so take it easy on me.

Naturally, I have some bias on Flipside, but I'd like to share my personal thoughts anyway.

To Wicked's first post, switch is short for switchstance, so there's really no difference between stance and side in this case, just names. You say the word "side" necessitates good/bad. That to me is straight up stupid. "Flipside" makes it sound more equal than anything! It basically means one side is better or more consistent, but you can hit a given trick on both sides. In skateboarding, hitting something Switch gets big respect for the same reason as footbag: IT'S HARDER ON ONE SIDE; there's nothing wrong with discerning a difference by name. So Eric (maybe others) doesn't like just saying "flip". I really don't know why. In So.Cal. we were all saying "my 'flip' this or that"; I think Abshire started the abbrev. It just rolls off the tongue, "My Flip stepping set matches up with my Flip Barfly, so I really have to concentrate on my Flip Blurriest." Ya' feel me?

I honestly think darkside sounds pretty cool, but it's just more skate lingo infiltrating footbag. It reminds me of Dark Slide (invented by Rodney Mullen) and Darkstar skateboard company (very well known). Also, calling it "dark" would make an even greater impression that one side is good or bad. Am I the only one who sees a contradiction?

On to Kenny's mention of his (very) "weak" pixie set. Yeah, call it weak. That only makes clear and perfect sense. To site my own example, I've hit Gyro Shaft on one side several times, but the other side doesn't even exist to me until I hit it. Until then it's just weak, or maybe "invisible" (new vocab word?). If someone skools his ass off at his Flipside Smoke, for example, then he should feel pretty good about saying "I comboed my Flip Smoke today for the first time!" It's probably not very "weak" once you can combo something with it.

*** I remember when we first introduced "Flipside" in California years ago, Sunil Jani particularly had some issues with it. Forgive and correct me if I'm wrong, but Sunil's view was that calling something "weak" was just motivation to practice it harder. After a short time, he found himself referencing his "weak" Fog, but it sounded contradictory because of all the work he had spent on it. He had earned the right to call it his "Flipside Fog", and he had a big smile when he first used it in a sentence. To me, that is what it's all about- feeling good about what you've accomplished.

Sorry this goes a little off-topic....about alpine
chan wrote:a duck between 2 [sets of] dexes (or move elements.........)
i still consider it alpine only between dexes. silly robertttt
I think it should be a duck between move elements. For example, alpine legbeater is atomic ducking butterfly, which has a duck between dexes, but I've seen people hitting spinning ducking down double down and they call it alpine scorpion's tail.

If alpine is considered only between dexes, I would give props to anyone who hits a alpine scorpion's tail

yeah. i agree now. i just had never heard of anyone using it like that before.
chris: yeah. alpine is only for ducking. hence alpine. like mountains. i always thought it would be neat to have a similar term for spinning. but i could never think of a good word. alpine is brilliant.

Ellis, I dont really care about the technicalities. I just like the way Switch sounds compared to flipside. However, I have given up on switch... flipside it is to me now. And as far as Darkside being another skate word infiltrating footbag, you could think of darkslide as Star Wars lingo infiltrating Skating.... And honestly Ellis.. I doubt kenny even knows what a darkslide is (lol, sorry kenny correct me if im wrong) ,,, it was probably just pure coincedence. I seriously doubt he used skating as inspiration for the term "darkside" It just sounds cool.

Hey Ellis,

How's your new video coming? Cool that you finally found this list. How did you hear about it? Flip sounds cool to me, I remember back in the day when I said weak side. I don't agree about there always being a side that is harder. I have spent a lot of time and given up schooling a lot of hard tricks to equalize both my sides and I have done that. Honestly, if I tired a gyro diving torque I wouldn't be able to hit it, but I would be perfectly equal on both sides. It is just about getting to that point and raising both sides equally. I have 2 flip sides, I have 2 strong sides. Btw, I asked Big A. D. D. about BSP and he said he didn't start it or endorse it. I would be prouder to be in BSP that I would to be in BAP. Do you or anyone know how BSP got spread cause I didn't make it up and I really really really want to be in it. I'm both sided wanabe right now. Lon inducted me into small add posse :)

As far as alpine, what I think Chris meant, or what I would at least ask is: can alpine be diving? Also, I think that alpine should be between elements instead of between dexes. For instance. Does lon hit a ducking mobius or an alpine mobius on The Lions Den? To me there is a big difference. A ducking gyro torque or a gyro ducking torque? Ducking mobius sounds technically wrong to me just as barraging torque sounds wrong as a description of barroque. Barraging torque would be either a furious torque or a high stepping torque, not a barraging osis. Ducking mobius would be a duck then a mobius, which would be tough to clean, def possible though. And when it is hit we must be able to distinguish between the two.

Now that we are starting to get some big name people on the list, I see the days of my meaningless posts comming to an end.... it is good though. The format of this list still allows me to post them. But since I know they wont be bounced I might want to use more discresion.

:) I'm at school yall. Later.

SAM <meaningless post...

that is a good point sam...... no being able to post meaninless bullshit in fear of what a certain pro might think. Nobody fear the growth of this list. Keep talking on it like the day it was just the 10 of you all or whatever. Thats what makes this forum cool. Who cares what people think just keep talking.
