Sizes of panels for 32 panel bag

Post by djkosmo »

Howdee everyone,

I was wondering what you crazy people think are the best sizes for the hexagons and pentagons of a 32 pannel. I currently use:

Hexagons: Long sides 14mm, Short sides 7mm

Pentagons: All sides 14mm

Any help or comments would make me very happy.

Peace

I don't know my dimensions but I would recomend making the long side on the hexes slightly longer than the side of the pents so that there is a bit extra material on either end.

Do you not find that your bags leak alot with your current set up?

It sounds as though the only way they wouldn't leak is if you stitch the hexes together. Do you?

My stiching style is as follows:

I lay the hex and the pent over each other. I start my stitch on one side of the hex. Then I do 6 stitches in total working myself to the other end of the panels. Since this is an even number I end up coming out of the pent and into the hex with my sixth stich. Then, to sew the next hex onto my flower I make a stitch 2mm below the hex-pent corner into the short side of the hex and coming out of the next hex panel. Now I am in the same position as before and I can start the procedure all over again.

Is this how you sew?

How do you not sew the hexes together? Do you use an odd number of stitches for the long hex/pent sides?

What is the usefulness of having extra material on the hex long sides?

On a different note, I was wondering whether you also use stitches that are not straight. To get the pents to stand up, I make my stitches so that I take different amounts of material from the two panels that are involved in the stitches. To be more precise, these are the points where I make my stitches on the panels:

Hexs(14mm total): 0mm, 3mm, 5mm, 9mm, 11mm, 14mm
Pents(14mm total): 0mm, 2mm, 6mm, 8mm, 12mm, 14mm

So if you draw this on a piece of paper it looks like a Zig Zag pattern.

Do you do this as well?

If yes, do you use a similar technique for determining where to place your individual stitches?

Cheerio for all your kind help and may the force be with you.

Sew on
