In my opinion it would be a great idea if such a thing would exist.

In other sports there are a few books which have some kind of official character.

For example in tennis there is one book called "Tennislehrplan" from the German Tennis Federation ( DTB) which describes the newest developments in the sport as well the perfect execution of basic technics.

This kind of written media would help our sport to grow - there are lots of people who have no internet account. It is quite obvious that there is enough stuff online to fill 50 books.

I am sure if lots of people will work together we can achieve to publish such a book.

What do you think about this idea?

Would you like to help ?

Do you have any information about publishing a book ?

Would you support this idea by allowing to use your internet material ?

you should try contacting daryl genz. His Freedom footbags Fundamentals to freestyle footbag flyer is like a very small version of that and so maybe with his help, the ball could start rolling.

Hi Jochen,
I like the idea of an footbag book! I thought about that many times. But making a book really is expensive

Maybe we should start with a booklet of e.g. 16 sides, like the Swiss did. The problem is to find an sponsor that pays for the paper and the printing. I worked in a printing plant for the last 5 months so I know how such things are produced from the scratch. You should write Jan Zimmerman and ask him about the booklet they made.

P.S. I wrote the very same text also on .org but it disappered somehow

I tried organizing a newsletter a few years back, and it never worked out. I wrote an article, Max wrote one, and I think Allan wrote one, or proofread one of mine or something... anyways. If you want to get a book rolling, good luck... I'd suggest assigning parts of the book to specific people and all collaborating on it. What would the different focuses be for the book? That's a good place to start.

I've heard of several people starting and stopping those books. I think it'll be a long while before anyone actually puts in the time and effort required to actually finish one. Books are extremely difficult to research, organize and write. Anyone who writes one (a good one) will either have to be extremely dedicated and/or extremely capable of managing/wanting to write it in the spare time that everyone seems to have so little of.

in my opinion it is not that hard if a bunch of people combine their efforts....

As it seems there no people who want to do this so there is no book ....

the result of my try was:

maybe 8 people wanted to help
one joined the group
one wanted to join but didn't succeed ( I do not want to argue how difficult the solution to found another group would have been)

I never got a feedback about my brainstorming on the book so what should I say-

My attempt to write a book is cancelled!

If another person comes up with the idea I won't hesitate to help

Hey, I tried!!! About starting an english group, I don't know much about doing stuff like that. If there was a group I could go to I'd still be down with the book. I really only use the net at work, I have it at home but my connection is slow and I get tired of waiting for pages to load. You can ask my girlfriend, she just joined .org yesterday (Jamie Kimbrell), about how stoked I was to help out. I still love the idea and would be extremely happy to help. I guess three people wouldn't be enough though. Still, if you ever have the drive to start up again you know my e-mail, and if you don't you still know where to find me every week day.

I am angry to those who are telling how much they help footbag by doing nothing but talking to the wrong people.

You do not need to excuse yourself because you were one of those who tried most.

I won't forget your name.

I guess, we need a minimum of 300-500 hours of work - I guess 2 people are not enough.

30 - 50 people ................?

WWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYyy too many people. You're not writing a totally unabridged 20 volume set on the History of the World. You're writing a book about footbag which is only about 30 or so years old and has spent most of that time in the US and Canada. Sure it has roots in other cultures, but for the purposes of footbag you needn't even devote a whole chapter to those cultures.

If you think you need 300-500 hours worth of work then I'd suggest that one person without firsthand historical knowledge could handle it themselves in about it 1 to 1.5 years.
Really If you had 2 people who could devote and average of 5 hours per week for one year, that's 260 hours worth of work per person. That's 260 hours worth of work. 5 hours per week is actually too little because cohesion within a work really comes from more consistant work hours.

I think anyone who was really serious about writing a book would just go ahead and do it. Selected individuals are good to bounce ideas off of on occasion, but large groups for a work like this are a hinderance more than a help. Especially in the footbag community.

You could try starting a Wiki. It didn't take long for people to head over to wikipedia to start editing their entry. If you had a wiki, everyone could outline chapter ideas they'd like to see, and come back to work on them whenever. It wouldn't even be the first book written this way...

Anyone who is good at talking and knowledable should contact the people who write those dummies books. Maybe they would publish something if one of us (of a few people) write it.
