Hip Problems anyone?
Latley my hip has been hurting me. I was wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem, and if so what did you do to heel it and/or help prevent it.
Hope is the pain we feel that makes us try again

Nic - I'm dealing with the same shit as you. I don't really know what to do about it, so I'm just being really, really easy on it... I'm starting to take the glucosamine/msm/chondroitin that Lon and Red recommended, although I have no idea if that even addresses the issue. If anyone knows anything about this, please let us know!
About 6-9 months ago my right hip began hurting me one day after a shred. It would hurt when I raised my leg vertically (like a toe stall). I rested it for 2 days and then played with it again. It felt fine at first then gradually became worse to the point that I had to stop playing midway into my shred session. It continued to do this for a few weeks and the top of my leg even became numb, so I went to my family doctor, who sent me to an orthopedic doctor. He said I had overused my hip, which could lead to tendonitis. He said to RICE (Rest - Ice - Compression - Elevation) it for a few weeks. Then I could start lightly playing again, but if my leg started to hurt I had to immediatly stop. Ever since doing that I have had no problems. So since you were schooling a lot there's a good chance that it is an overuse injury, which most injuries are in sports.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

I strained my hip flexor over a year ago and kept playing. At the last session, where I played like nothing was wrong (last april/may), I was skooling flip atomic WAY too hard. Flip atomic and flip ps whirls is what put way too much strain on those muscles. For me it feels more like my groin most of the time, but I was told by my athletic therapist, a sports doctor, and my family doctor (after those muscle x-rays, and lots of other stuff) that it is my hip.
My problem is that I didn't do ANYTHING about it, except stop playing, until half a year, or more, later. And even then I started to play again and pushed too hard (flip stepping ducking = "I'm sooo stupid!").
My athletic therapist told me to try icing a lot after doing my stretches. I didn't find that helped much, but maybe because it was so long after the initial injury (my hip actually hurt a lot for about half a year before I stopped playing). I also had ultrasound with my athletic therapist, but that didn't seem to do anything... Most recently my family doctor told me to try a hip brace, which I am wearing right now -- it's supposed to support the joint from impact and friction (I guess), and give my muscles a chance to heal and break away the scar tissue through exercise (biking and very light footbag). I feel silly writing something like this when there are people like John Mahood on the forum who know exactly what they are talking about. if I had that kind of knowledge, I wouldn't be injured right now.
I completely forgot, but I am going to look into accupuncture. I know practically nothing about it, but I know lots of people, like Peter Irish and Allan Haggett, are for it and say it works. My girlfriend's sister's best friend's mom (the relation is a lot closer than it sounds) does accupuncture (traditional Chinese family) and she 'fixed'(??) my girlfriend's cousin, who was suffering from some sort of paralysis in his face, where he could only move half his mouth, and stuff, and his face always looked angry. Once I have had it done, and if it does anything, I will post here again.
PS: be careful on PARADOX whirls...I think that is probably the move I would avoid most when I begin playing again (more so than blurry -- although PS is RIGHT OUT), minus anything atomic...
