Aaron Orton BagOfMuscle log
I had a session yesterday that I didn't have time to write about until now. I hope I can start writing in this damn journal again without completely forgetting about it. To think, it was lying at the bottom of the second page here for some time. No longer... hehe.
Anyway, Jason and Richie are pure wisdom when it comes to this game. Out of all the footbagger's I have ever met, no one is as informative and so sure about the game as these two. It's a blessing that I am able to kick with them twice a week now. In fact I was going to play today but the weather changed all that, this weekend is a must though.
As far as footbag goes, I am back into it full cycle. I have been hitting some things that are big as far as difficulty goes, but instead of looking at it like something huge, I'm glaring at it as if it's manditory. Some moves that are just springing up on command include Blurry Torque, Pixie Ducking Whirl, Whirr, and Bigwalk. I'm not just talking about my strong side either, I have almost sealed, or sealed all of those with my flip yet each side is uniquely different. On one side I have my great Stepping set, on the other I have my better spins and ducks, all in all, it adds up to a better experience when I play. Although I do love BSOS moves and combos, I have realized that just because you can hit a move BSOS in a run doesn't meen that it's manditory. My inspiration has come from random footbag videos (Moir's Sessions) and playing with so many different players since my return from Iraq. I have played with Red Husted, Lon, Jim Penske, Nate Linscott, James Erickson, Daryl Genz, Brad Nelson, Loren BOMB hehe, the Chosen Juan, and the two badass's down here in SoCal. Not to mention dozens of others. Each has had an influence on me and I hope to be able to improve my game dramatically before I get deployed again.
Moves I must seal and develop in order to step my game up to where I want to be:
Janiwalk
Barroque
Alpine Atom Smasher
Atomic Torque
69
WhirlWalk
Marius
Whirlwind
Superfly
RipTide
Those are to just name a few, and I know I can do it. I'm taking all of the advice I get and using it this time around instead of adjusting it to my own preferences completely. I still will have my thoughts and opinions about it but I will ensure that I atleast attempt what advice is given before it is tossed out. I want the combos Richy and Jason are telling me that I will hit and can hit. I want the satisfaction of 20+ Guiltless every time I touch the bag, and I want to be able to throw atleast some fearless in my runs. AFK for now, time to train.

Thanks Ptaku. I am back in training mode and I'm glad that I am being able to take advantage of it now that I have a vehicle and know alot more about my schedule for the next year. It looks like footbag is going to be a huge part of me again. I just have to ensure that I don't get injured, because if I do... I could get office hours or even demoted through the marine corps. Why you may ask? Because I am government property, and they don't like their property broken.
Today Rich and I had a session with one of his old buddies that he's known for about a decade. His name was Mike and he has some moves like motion, dyno, and Torque. He also can juggle two bags for many many contacts while switching feet like it's the easiest shit in the world. I was pretty impressed with that myself.
Rich hit some decent runs today. Nothing huge because he is saving his legs for tomarrow when we shred again. One run began with motion > P. Torque > Far motion > Run as far as I can remember. But he was having fun for sure.
I didn't hit anything new moves today but I had alot of shit fall off multiple times. Atomic Drifter lands and falls off my foot every time and Whirlwind landed just out of bag grab level a few times. Tomarrow I'll try again for these moves and more.
I did manage to seal alot of new combos however. Mostly due to me forgetting my shred shoes on base and having to use Abshire's old CT 300's. They were definately a snug fit but I discovered when my tripless and shuffling was sky rocketing with the shoe-goo rail he administered on it. It was a moderate session but exciting to know that my osis was impossible to not catch any bail I wished to snag. I managed to seal these combos:
Ripwalk X3 > Stepping Far Osis > Repeat > Tripless run
Parkwalk > Ripwalk > Bigwalk
Run with Stepping SS Mirage > Legbeater > Repeat and Sidewalk > Ripwalk > Repeat in it
Stepping SS Whirl > Symposium Whirl
Also Very Close to Pheonix > Spinning Ducking Butterfly (Maybe tomarrow)

I am posting in my blog at 4:38 in the morning because I am on duty and I have nothing better to do. I usually post about new moves and runs but since I'm having some bad shin splints I haven't played for real since that last session on Friday. Too bad, because Abshire was all fresh and ready to go and my damn left leg hurt so bad I was having trouble standing... =(. Maybe I'll be fully recovered by next week and be free enough to get a good session in, Cameron Kennedy is showing up by the way.
Well I was sick and tired of not getting any footage of this San Diego scene and not knowing what I needed to work on through my own eyes. So, I bought a camcorder today online. I got a Panasonix GS PV150 or something like that after some research over the best camera for around that price range (I got it for 550). It should be here within the next week if all goes well. I'm going to couple the camera with a nice editing suite for roughly 100 or so and start putting out some mad videos for everyone to watch online. They will be the best, oh yeah.
As far as I go, I'm kinda bummed. My car keeps giving me problems and I just did the stupidest shit ever to it while leaving Rich's house this weekend. I fucking scraped the front left fender across his garage door because I was being to paranoid by the mother fucker behind me. This dude like inched by me and I had all my attention on that SOB and not on how tight of a spot I was in. Soooo, long story short I scraped my car up and chipped some paint off. I'm going to get that fixed as soon as possible. It makes my sick car look like shit (White 97' Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Turbo). Also, beyond that craziness, I was driving my car yesterday and when I came back to it I pressed the Unlock button on my 300$ car security system that I put in and the damn thing went CRAZY. I thought I turned the alarm off but when I opened the door it started going off and I COULDNT SHUT IT OFF OMGG. All the marines walking around were looking at me like I was retarded and I was so embarrassed. Mostly because it just kept going and going for 3 minutes until the damn thing turned off. I tried everything but it would not go. So what did I do? I DROVE MY CAR WITH THE ALARM GOING OFF LOL. I didn't have a choice because I had to get back to work but I got alot of looks as if I had stolen the damn thing. I'm taking it in to the security place tomarrow for sure, this shit is just stupid.

I wish I had my camcorder today.... I wish I had my camcorder today.
Today was perfect, the best session I have ever had, period. Not only did I hit alot of new shit, I am starting to flow with the bag and just shred without thinking about it, I love this game...
New Moves (By the way, I hit everything BOTH SIDES):
Tombstone BS
Gravedigger BS
Diving Whirl BS
Mobius BS
Vortex BS
Pheonix BS (I could never duck my flip pixie until today)
Damn the following moves to hell for falling off my foot every time:
Atomic Torque
Atomic Drifter
Marius
Flipside Blurry Torque
WhirlWind
I gave a few bigger moves a try with no luck, but the moves I did seal today more then made up for it. I am so god damn happy I sealed all of those today, and I wasn't just going for that shit either, the session ended up being one part drills, one part moves, and one part shred. It was just intense.
New Runs:
20+ move run mostly all unique ducks, dives, and spins with and occasional infinity and osis.
Pixie Legover > Smear > Repeat (I probably hit that before but... O_o)
Smear > Atom Smasher > Repeat
Tap > Atom Smasher > Repeat
Blizzard > Legbeater BS
Dimwalk > Sidewalk > Schmoe > Repeat
Spinning Butterfly > Blizzard > Pixie Whirl > Spinning Butterfly > ... Couldn't complete
Diving Butterfly > Diving Clip > Ducking Butterfly > Repeat
It was just insane, and alot of fun. Vortex on my strong side was like 80% today, which made me almost laugh because it just became so easy. My flip was a fucking bitch though. I must have had that slip off 20 times before I sealed the damn move. Not to mention I kept trying it at the end of the session because I told myself I couldn't leave until it was sealed. Hah. OWNED THAT MOVE. Tombstone and Gravedigger have always been a big concern for me because I always thought they were too difficult of moves but I can step like mad so I decided fuck it and nailed the Tombstones back to back so that motivated me to move on to the Gravediggers... which were needless to say, much more difficult. Well, I hope this session wasn't a fluke, I really want to have all those moves in my soon to come arsenal.

Great fun today.
I found out recently that Damon Mathews (FlexThis) on the forum lives just down the interstate from me. In fact, my last session where I hit all that crazy shit was a mere mile away from his actually place. To think I could have been shredding with him that whole time! Oh well, today we hooked up and had a blast.
We started kicking around 5:30, he was just getting off of work so that's the only reason we started so late. My god though, he has the most perfect shred room in his house. Wooden floors with a perfect mixture of cushion and bounce and fucking surround sound music to shred to. It was intense. Damon hasn't obviously played real hard for a long time, but when he started attempting to link some fours and shuffling, it was obvious he once had a game that wasn't meek. He did manage to hit a few fives including Merlin (First try), and Pixie op reverse whirling x-body rake. It was fun to get him to get back in the game again and I told him that I'll be stopping by alot more because why solo when you have someone that close?
Damon has never seen me play before, and I have only seen him in one video in the past, so this was a completely new experience for both of us. I had a great time and hit some new combos that was just really fun for me because I'm starting to really up my game. The following are the combos I'm talking about:
Blurry Whirl > Blurry Whirl
Blurry Whirl > Blurriest
Mobius > Hand Catch > Flip Mobius
I have always not been able to step out of my whirls but today it was all over for that old problem. My left side whirl was allowing a perfect set for anything today. I tried starting with my strong side and doing it vice versa but I couldn't manage to get the set
. I'll be nailing it soon though, I swear. The Blurry Whirl > Blurriest combo I hit first try so that was new and fun. I also attempted Blurry Whirl > Bigwalk and got very close but I think the Bigwalk was The. Damon said he couldn't tell due to where I was when I attempted it. Dang. Beyond that, stepping ducking was a joke for my strong side, I must have hit it 60% of the time, and 3/3 for my first attempts. Pixie ducking was even easier so I threw that in alot midrun.
The following are moves I attempted today and got insanely close to:
Gyro Blurry Whirl
Whirlwind
Frontside Whirlwalk
Flipside Haze
Fog BS
Guantlet
Marius
Blurry Ducking Whirl
All of these I stopped thinking as difficult, but just unattainable until I dial all of there foundation moves. That meens I'm going to start throwing in alot more PDX DLO's, uptime whirls, torques and stepping ducking sets. I want to up my game, so the previous are what I will do as soon as I can feel my legs again
.

HI. Today I went to a new part of Camp Pendleton for a 3-week Rifle Instructors Course. We pretty much covered everything we are getting into for the next month. It's nice because I am completely on my own program instead of being under my battalions bullshit. They are going to be doing uniform inspections, tests, and gear accountability while I'm away, so I'm kind of lucking out. Not only that, but I get to do a pistol qualification while I'm at the course, now I'll have two shooting badges on my uniform, along with five ribbons.
I tried playing footbag today with no success. I stretched, got hydrated, and went out to a nice sunny location by my car where I thought everything would be perfect. However, this previous weekend in San Diego had a bigger toll on me then I thought. Shortly after warming up, and beginning some tiltless runs, my legs began to throb quickly and I realized.... I better stop. So I did, and thus, ruined the rest of my day because ever since then I have been grouchy.
I went to sleep for a couple hours after that session due to getting up at four in the morning. It felt good but I almost missed free dinner in the process so I got even more upset at myself. However, I did manage to make it to the messhall at the last minute and got a decent meal of chicken fried steak, mash potatoes, and green beans. To complete it, I had TWO desserts of apple pie and cookies. God I am so fat.
After that I drove back to my camp and hopped on my computer here to eventually realize that I would run into many problems. I want to get so much done but don't understand how to do most of it. I want to be able to establish a place where I can upload videos and pictures easily and quickly for the public to see once I get my camcorder. However, I don't know the best sight and process to do this... Not only that, but Richy wants all the Jorden Moir videos I've downloaded on DVD, and I don't know how to go about doing that either. I have alot of great programs, a super quick computer, and a dvd burner, but no idea how to get those videos on a new dvd. To top it all off, I decided to visit the forum's chat room and I couldn't do that either! Firefox doesn't have that plug in so I loaded IE up but it ran into the same problem. So I attempted to download the neccesary javascript to use the application, but noooooooooo the download had a file that was corrupt. What a waste of twenty minutes to get something done.
Sigh, I'm so irritated. I'm going to call my girlfriend and drink a beer. I need to relax.

Aw dude! Sounds like everything is getting in the way of your fun!
I can help with one thing.
Most people on here host their videos on footbag.org (I figure that's obvious) and to do that you need to be an IFPA member. With that you can host as much as you want for a year for ten bucks.
There are also things like yousendit.com where you can host it temporarily for free.
I can't wait to see footage of your scene! You all sound so good!

I know about footbag.org and their IFPA membership benefits, I'm a member. However, hosting anything on that sight runs into the complications of SUPER slow loading times, bandwidth, and not the easiest interface to get the job done. I'm looking for a place where I can load everything I film without worrying about these things. Any suggestions? I'm willing to pay a small fee if it's worth it.

Well I went to Richie's this weekend for some shred and found my camcorder waiting for me in his living room. We ripped it open together and played around a bit with the attatchments, looked at the machine, and began charging the battery when we left to go shred with Jason. It turns out that I didn't charge the battery all the way however because I plugged my camcorder into the charger at the same time shortly after. Thus, only twenty seven minutes of the battery was charged leaving me with only that amount when we went to play the next day. (Saturday)
Thinking that everything was ready to go Saturday, we took off to go shred at the pier and start filming. Too bad I only had twenty minutes to work with..., not only did we all hit some good ass shit. I finally hit my three fives, pheonix > blurry whirl > spinning whirl two runs after the camera went off. Oh well, atleast I hit them. I chopped the video up that I did get and hosted it here (http://www.footbag.org/media/610/JustATaste.mpg) because it's just a taste for more to come.
I'm going to go play around with my editing program now. I can't figure out how to input sound over the damn video and it's driving me crazy.

Okkkkkkkkkkaaaaaaaaaaayyyy. Well I watched the movie I made a few times after I posted it online and was just dissatisfied. It didn't have an introduction, a conclusion, or music. That's not a movie, it's just raw footage clipped. So I was determined the past couple days to fix it. After looking through everything the program that came with the camcorder had, I just could not understand how to overlay a music track on my computer. Thus I transfered the file to Windows Movie Maker and not only did it transfer without problem, but all the edits I did previously transfered along with it. So I made a new video and reposted it online after taking the previous one down. I am so much happier with this one now and look forward to tweaking movies in the future.
Okay, anyway I haven't really written in this thing with time for about a week now. The last two edit's were quick and very uninformative. I really wanted to post about the fun shred we had this weekend and all the shit that went down. So here it goes:
Friday was the first day I got there and shortly after my arrival Jason showed up from work and we all started stretching and warming up for a session. I now wish i would have brought my camcorder out just for a half hour of footage because of all the insane shit Jason and Rich hit just on friday but unfortunately I didn't get any of it. I still was unable to bust my three fives on friday but I got blurry whirl > paradox blender in for a new 5 > 5, and showed them that I could step out of my blurry whirl now. Jason hit Janiwalker BSOS, and Janiwalker > Janiwalker to start another run. Rich was busting paradox blenders and motions all over the place and unusually nice whirling swirls. After the session we stretched out and talked and played around a shit load with my camcorder. I filmed alot of late night shit after they were partied out and it is hilarious still watching some of that footage I got. I think I'll use some of it on a future vid, hehe. So ended Friday night and began Saturday.
We prepped all of our gear and decided to head down to Chrystal Pier for the first time in over a year for me. It was the better spot to film optimal shred also and we weren't going to be harassed there by beach security. SO MUCH WAS HIT. Not only did I bust my three fives but I came immensely close to two more three -5 add- combos. Blurry Whirl > Blurry Whirl > Spinning Pdx Whirl was off my foot, along with Pheonix > Blurry Drifter > PS Whirl. Damn those combos. And damn Blurry whirl > double blender for comming off my foot
. Rich was going for a combo I wanted him to hit, Locomotion > Blurriest > Paradox Torque, which would have been insane but he couldn't manage to seal the last move that day. Jason has been getting really scarily close to Paradox Torque > Janiwalker, I know he will bust that very very soon. The best part is that I have a camcorder now and shred just waiting to be captured. If I wasn't injured right now!!!! God damnit, I would be recording a solo session as I type.
My injury consists of some deeply imbedded shin splints. Not just standard shin splints however, these reach from my knees to my TOES on both legs. I got Richy to order me some special insoles that I'll get from him soon, but until then I am going to take it easy. In fact, I worked on basic shit yesterday, small two add drills and three add drills to not push my body but just feel the bag better. I think it worked, because I hit Drifter > Whirl > Repeat a few times and I never did that before O_o.
My dieting is also taking a turn for the better. I use to eat so god damn healthy when I left Iraq that I was a beast and in the best god damn shape of my life. It has slowly deteriorated into the thing I am now though, due to insufficient nutrition, supplements, and working out. I'm going to get back into it though, for footbag. That will be my motivation. BETTER NUTRITION = BETTER PLAYING. Here I go.
Okay I just stretched all over so I feel alot better already, I'll do some situps and pushups too before I go to sleep. I think I'll go for ten hours of solid sleep tonight too, that way I can be fresh if I shred tomarrow. Which I think I will, maybe even go to SD for a session with Rich..!?
Anyway, peace out for now, I'm going to surf the web.

Well I played wiht Damon the other night, (wednesday), and had a blast. I really started hurting the past few times I have played due to shin splints so I got up the courage to research why. Turns out all the stretches and excersices people recommend actually work. They work great in fact. My shin splints are 80% gone, and I should be getting hooked up with some sick insoles real soon. Sooo I look forward to once again trying to push my limits this upcomming week with Richy on video.
Btw, I have a new video comming out real soon
