using ur method u can actually make two cuts. again cut it into a 4 and a 3. then cut the 3 into a 2 and a 1

first night - pay the 1 on the first night
second night - pay the 2 get back the 1
third night - pay the 1
fourth night - pay the 4 get back the 2 and 1
fifth night - pay 1
sixth night - pay 2 get back 1
seventh night - pay the 1

therefore only two cuts

You have 5 jars of pills. Each pill weighs 10 gram, except for contaminated pills contained in one jar, where each pill weighs 9 gm. Given a scale, how could you tell which jar had the contaminated pills in just one measurement?

Has anyone asked this before? I only started reading at the last page.

that question hasn't been asked, but one similar to it has. Take 1 pill from jar 1, 2 from jar 2, 3 from jar 3, ect., ect. Then weigh the pills. If all the pills weighed 10 grams then you have 5! grams. If the first jar was the contanimated pills, then it would weight 5! - 1 grams. And for the second jar 5! - 2 grams. ect. ect.
