I"m just glad they selected an ultra conservative, I think this will help the world quickly recognize the irrelevance of the churches hardline dogma which prevent the chucrch from fulfilling it's role as a peace promoting force in the spirit of Jesus.

Yahoo News wrote:Ratzinger served John Paul II since 1981 as head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. In that position, he has disciplined church dissidents and upheld church policy against attempts by liberals for reforms. He turned 78 on Saturday.
Kick ass birthday present, huh? Well at least he's old and we can have this discussion again in a few years. This discussion was good at the begining.

Hopefully Ratzinger will maintain the way Pope John Paul II was going with the Catholic church.

Bernd Goehring, German Ecumenical Group Kirche Von Unten:

"We consider the election of Ratzinger is a catastrophe.

"It is very disappointing, even if it was predictable. We can expect no reform from him in the coming years.

"The course followed by the church so far has only been confirmed by this selection by the cardinals' conclave.

"I think that even more people will turn their back on the church."

Jurandir Arauj, National Conference of Brazilian bishops, Afro-Brazilian section:

"It seems that he is too conservative. Hopefully the Holy Spirit can help him change.

"We expected a person like John Paul. Somebody who could give the church alternatives ... open the church to the world, look more at reality."
OOOOOH, the optimism is killing me.

I heard the guy is a John Paul Clone who was elected to serve in the interim (until he dies - he is 78 and the oldest nominated candidate) until they can make a more drastic papal decision.

Apparently this guy is too conservative and the church trully wants to take a more liberal stance to win the hearts of the world in the wake of all the catholic controversy.

Apparently what the chruch goer's want, and what the church power structure wants are not the same thing eh ?

The pope is irrelevant, and will continue to hold women as second class citizen and sentence millions of people to death sentences preventable by AIDS education.

Yeah I agree Cameron.

It is sad that the Catholic church continues to bash women, reminds me of a certain regime we changed, a?

You are correct the pope is irrelevant. He might as well be a statue of Jesus on a cross. Something to look at every now and then to remind you to be good.

Interesting story:

My own mother was denied seminary by the Catholic Church. She holds a masters degree in religious studies, yet can't be a priest.

HMMMM...Can you say CONVERT.

nobody thinks that God didnt tell the cardinals to choose Ratzinger?
I mean what happens behind those doors??? Maybe God shows up, they play scrabble and bam the winner gets pope... As long as God gets the final say... the scrabble game is probably just customary.
