Style or Difficulty???

Post by delakong »

Some things in the Jorden/Vasek poll made me wonder what people thought. IMO, I'd rather do a simple trick smoothly than do a difficult trick sloppy. Just wanna see what y'all think.

I don't care how hard the trick is, if it doesn't look good, then I don't care. It's as simple as that for me.

I enjoy watching people like Vasek, Penske, and Honza because i think they have both of these qualities. Both are important.
I did vote for style though because i enoy watching smooth, solid tiltless players than flailing guiltless + players.

I don't think we could all agree on "good" "style".

I like tricks hit big and with the appropriate amount of effort. "Style" these days seems to boil down to making tricks as smooth as possible with the least amount of effort. I tend to find this "style" mind numbingly dull. Mind numbingly dull is a bad thing if that's how the judges are percieving your style.

I vote style.

I think i know what you are saying....I do like how Penske makes tricks look hard. Ha. Of course most actually ARE very hard but the way he does it makes is look...i dunno freakin awesome.

difficulty
as long as the trick is clean then I am content for the most part
style is subjective, difficulty is not

I just think of it this way
I would rather hit nemesis > furious torque > swirlwind with what some people say is bad style
Then I would like to hit legover > toe > toe with what people say is nice style
If i am simply doing guiltless then style is very important, but if a trick/string is hard enough style loses its importance

Man, you were right on the button there.

I didn't vote because of this. They both mean a lot to me, so I am not going to force myself to vote between them.

I love watching videos with Lon and Erik shred in them, but I also like it when I see any player hit any string of difficult links.

Now, this problem can be solved with the digimon method. I am sure we have all played digimon (not really, and i have never played either).

So theres the crystal one that kills the one made of talcum powder. The talcum powder is the style. Crystal is the difficulty. So talcum powder can help with diaper rash, where a crystal would just chafe that baby like crazy.

Therefore, style is more important.

When you have good style, I think it would just mean that you are better, since you have alot more time to do things with the bag, and the flow stays constant. Difficulty is nice and all, but if you cant keep it going, it doesnt look stylish, since style is more important.

I'd rather see someone doing tricks they look comfortable doing than to see them struggle and possibly hurting themselves.

I voted style.

Alot of new players always have their head in the clouds with tricks. Instead of building a foundation, they want to go straight to whirling swirl.

I know this one kid Rob, I always have to keep Nazi-ing him about getting basics down before moving on to other tricks. For God sakes, the kid wants to hit drifter and he can't even do clipper stall yet! *shakes head*, I gotta break him out of that (busts out bamboo cane).

Style should come first
but you always want to progress (difficulty).

It's like, you need a balance between the two. Like a yin-yang for example. Both sides are equal and intwined with eachother.
