Tales from the net court
I went to gym to lift some weights and I wasn't thinking at all when I started working on my pecs (sp?). I hadn't been in the gym for a week and I should've given my pecs an easy start, but didn't. So, as I got home I felt my pecs already hurting a little. I decided to put some Ice Power (cold gel) on them. Earlier on my weak moment I promised my girl friend we would clean up our appartment today. I started vacuuming with the Ice Power on my pecs, and the hot air blowing from the vacuum cleaner felt repulsive and anti-orgastic. It felt as I had to pay back from all the orgasms I've had in my life with the absolutly reverse feeling. Luckily I don't have sex more often, otherwise I'd be dead by now. Perhaps the orgasm-counter only registers the times I've had sex with someone else than myself.
Oh yeah, played three times since last time. On one of them, there was this young and hot reporter chick. She interviewed us an hour and the story is going to be big. She even said it might get to be in the cover of the newspaper. Sounds good. Screw the story, we all thought she was hot. Apparently, she knew a girl Tapio also knows and the girl (they both know) called Tapio and asked stuff about Oskari. The hot reporter biatch had a thing for Oskari. Oskari is the only one of us who is spoken for. Tapio also found out she was only 19. No wonder she looked so young and petite.
Complete waste of perfectly good bandwidth.

My mom just called saying I've received a letter from the ministry of defence of my county. I was like "oh shit, but I'm not a terrorist nor do I live in America". Then I came to my senses accepting the miserable reality that I've just been called to report on military refresher course. I was ordered to one two years ago. Ten days in the woods in the middle of nowhere taking it mentally up the ass. I served in the Finnish army (yes we have one, its small but solid) It pays okay though, and it was easy as a pie, but still. I had already started mentally expanding the a-hole in my brain for the coming refresher course, but then my mom told me I got promoted to corporal (no the ranks don't go like in the U.S. Army). My mom said it best saying I must be happier not having to go to a refresher course than I felt getting promoted. Moms know best.
Yessir, the Finnish singles net champs are two days away, and just yesterday I got an e-mail from Julie Symons (What, you don't know who she is?!? How about only the new Steve!! You don't know who Steve is?!? Learn your footbag info basics son!!) saying we get IFPA sanctioning for our event. Its going to be (as far as I know) the first ever IFPA sanctioned event in Finland. (on a related note, how hard is it to write Finland correctly. I manage to misspell it every time, but hey I spell-check.) What does IFPA sanctioning mean or what good does it do to you (except enlarging your penis) to have your event sanctioned by the IFPA? I didn't know either, but being a forum-junkie finally paid off. I saw this and contacted John. He gave me a lot of useful info and told me what to do next. I filled out a form and promised I'd get all the participants of our event to pay the membership fee for the IFPA. I believe I got it all covered. The good thing is, Finnish Footbag Association gets money form IFPA membership fees (for organizing next Worlds) and so the money comes right back to the players. I'm quite sure I'm going to become IFPA for life by paying the life time fee of $150. Perhaps I'll wait until 1 euro is worth two of American "soon-to-be-monopoly-money" dollars. As you can see from the link I posted, only IFPA sanctioned events are worth ranking points from now on, so get your events' participants to join the IFPA.
I played 4 times since my last entry, we've been mainly practicing singles and I've got a feeling Oskari is going to win the champs. Unless he plays against me in the final (not possible considering how much I suck in singles) I'll win him over a jedi mind trick I got backed up just in case I have to play him. I haven't actually used it yet, I've let its power multiply. That, or I'm Russel Crowe in Beautiful Mind imagining stuff that is not there. I actually had a dream that footbag and all the stuff evolving around footbag is fake and everyone is just playing with my mind letting me believe footbag is for real. I felt like Jim Carrey in the Truman Show, but there was actually no film crew. It was just a punch of people playing a prank on me, I think Jukka Peltola was behind all of this. That sounds just like a thing he would do
Maybe I'll have to pinch myself the next time I'm playing. If it turns out it was Jukka's idea to fuck with my fragile mind, I'm going to pay him right back. He's going to crash at my couch during the Finnish Champs, and you better sleep with one eye open mofo, if you're behind this conspiracy
Enough tipsy talk.

Long time, no entry.
I'll make this one short. I've played seven times since last entry. The Finnish singles net champs were two weeks ago, and I came third. I was a little dissapointed in some of my opponents for not beating me, since I'm not good at all in singles. Also, I was dissapointed in my own effort playing against Janne Uusitalo (he won the comp). I should've given him hard times, but instead I bended over in the first set. Then I got my shit together in the second, but he was better.
Oh yeah, I'm not playing before x-mas, because I'm going to Riga, Latvija tomorrow. My and my girl friend got a sweet price of 0.01€ for the flight to Riga
You just gotta love Ryanair. I have to check out how my goal of playing 144 times this year is doing, not many days left.
EDIT:*** I checked, and I've played 143 times this year, so once more and I've accompished all my goals for this year:
- Go to Worlds and Euros DONE
- Improve my 3rd place finish in Finnish Doubles Net Champs DONE
- Play 144 times this year (12 times a month) ALMOST DONE ***
Merry christmas, season's greetings, happy holidays or happy Kwanza which ever happens to be your bag of chips.

Its time for New Year resolutions (or more like goals for 2005):
- I'll play footbag atleast 150 times
- I'll do my best co-organizing the Worlds
- I'll go to Green Cup (Now the real challenge here is to get my gf OKing that trip for me
)
- I'll stop using nuuska regularly (the icky stuff Finns and Swedes put under their lips)
- I'll win the Finnish Doubles title again
- I'll win atleast one other tournament as well
That's a lot to promise, for me atleast.
Happy New Year to all footbaggers out there. When you're doing your New Year resolutions, remember to add "I'll attend the Worlds" in them.
See you in 2005,
Matti

I've started this year with a fresh, new attitude. So far I've managed to keep my mouth away from open alcohol bottles. Also, stopping nuuska-using has been relatively easy. I just did it cold turkey. For two days I had minor head ache and I felt irritated. Now the only thing I notice is that I feel hunger more often. Its kind of bad, since I'm trying to lose weight at the same time.
I've been reading this finnish body building forum, pakkotoisto.com looking for dieting tips. The diet "world" is a real jungle. You got Zone, Atkins, South Beach and whatnot. That South Beach sounds kind of scary to me. In SB, you aren't allowed to eat any carbs for the first two weeks and as a result of it, your body goes in to cetosis.
To a person not knowing what the hell cetosis is, it sounds like: "you aren't allowed to drink any water for the first two weeks and as a result of it, your body will go to coma, permanently. You're guaranteed lose weight."
So I just decided to go with a low-carb, high-protein diet and excercise a lot more. I even made my own protein bars for snacks
. They taste a lot like snickers, except they don't.
Last week I played four times and once this week already, so 5 down, 145 to go. The three biggest single things footbag-wise this year for me have been:
- Getting my second ever flipside block (I don't know if it really is my flipside in blocks, since I only have three blocks altogether in my "career")
- Felix getting poped
in Philly
- Jaska coming back from naphthalene. He hasn't played in three months and he hardly ever plays during winters.
I'm so stoked about going to Nice for 8 days in a little over month from now. My friend's dad has a "cottage" there, and I'm going there with 3 friends' of mine. We are all snowboarders (or wannabes atleast), and there are slopes in the Alps only an hour drive away.
And creme de la creme (b-sp = butcher-spelling), I'm propably going to New York this spring with my girl friend. Finnish airlines Finnair has this crazy offer, 344€ round trip, including all taxes and airport fees. New York City! Big Apple, baby!
To my only reader Jukka: I told Saara (my gf) about you and me and Green Cup. I thought she would burst in to tears and forbid me from going (yes, she CAN do that). But, instead she was like: "Are you sure you can afford it?". Then I told her about us living with John or P.T. Then she said she's going to miss me but kind of okayed the trip
.
Spike on,
Matti

Played six times (11 all year). And had three blocks during those sessions. I even blocked Osku twice in the same game. And I blocked Jarno, which is a big deal for me because he is always blocking my spikes. Now that I've made a couple of blocks, I must say its propably the best feeling in footbag; to block someone's good, hard spike.
My dry season ended today, when me and my gf went out to eat. But only one beer. Good god, I feel like drinking a whole lot more now. But luckily the shops are closed now, so I can't. And I wouldn't if I could. My NY trip is booked, April 1-9 it is. And 345€ there and back isn't that bad. A hostel two blocks from times square isn't too shabby either
I just hope Euro keeps getting stronger towards US dollar.

Played 5 times (16) since last entry. Me, Tapio and Osku were in Helsinki playing with some of Finland's big shot players. Sort of like a training camp, it was really fun.
I'm a little pissed of because I'm not losing any weight despite of my efforts. Another thing that pisses me of is the fact that my friend lost my digital camera. Or doesn't know where it is. Its weird, because I didn't even borrow it to him. Its been over a month now and I want it back.

I was waiting to get all the photos from my friend so I'd write a story with pics about my trip to Nice. I still haven't had the photos, so I'll just write a little something about the trip.
We flew with Ryanair from Tampere to Frankfurt-Hahn and from there to Milan-Bergamo. The first flight was 50 minutes late for no apparent reason. The next flight was 3,5 hours late because of a blizzard. We had a car rented for us from Bergamo's Hertz. We got there at 2.35 am. and they had to close the rental place at 2 am. So we were really pissed off because we had to stay the nighy at the airport. There was no place to get food from. Luckily I had 900g of soy protein powder with me. It tastes like shit, but it kept us from eating other people's limbs. Finally at 8am. the Hertz shop opened and we got our car. We got a little better car for the same price because we had to wait for so long. They gave us a Ford Focus C-Max. Then we drove 4 hours to Nice with 170 something road tunnels on the way.
When we finally got to Nice, we had to fuel up. So we went to a gas station and the guys in front (I was in back) knew they should take some kind of winter diesel. So they asked the lady in the station which they should take, super or regular or something. Anyway, they took something and then we drove to our apartment. On the short trip from the gas station to the apartment the car had a really weird sound. One guy from our group phoned his car dealer-dad who told us we took normal gasoline to a diesel engine. Then we called a repair man, who took the car, 6 hours of our time and 313 euros. Great start for a great trip.
We decided not to let that piss us off anymore. Instead we decided to drink a lot of beer every day, which we successfully did. My friend's dad is loaded so we stayed at his apartment in Nice. Needless to say, the apartment was...nice. From the balcony you could see the Alpes looking the other way and the Mediterranean sea looking just 50 metres down.
We went to three different skiing resorts during the four days we went snowboarding. It was my third time in the Alpes, and perhaps the best. The other times I went with my parents so that was a little different. Depsite our heavy alcohol using, we left the apartment at 8am. to go to the slpoes. There was a 1-2 hour drive to the slopes so there was plenty of time to drink some more beer. The beer was really cheap, we bought at least 10 cases (260 beers
) of this nice blonde beer for only 4,30 euros for a case of 26 bottles.
Amazingly no one got hurt, really bad. I got wind knocked out (is that the way to say it?) once, but that was it. Oh, and I hit my head once, and possibly had a mild concussion. I had a helmet, but it wasn't on <- idiot. On one day we built a really big jump to powder snow and took video footage of it. I think I managed to land a fs 360 from it. Isola2000 was by far the best resort of them, there was a lot of snow and best of all, a whole lot of powder.
We went to Monaco, which is full of beatiful cars and rich people. Nothing more. I had a sandbag with me and we kicked a little in between of Ferraris, Maseratis and Rolls-Royces.
Everything has to end somtimes and we had to leave the place after a week. This time we knew already we had to stay the night at an airport. This time it was at Frankfyrt-Hahn airport. We thought we would stay the night up drinking, but I was so tired after a week of drinking, snowboarding, not sleeping and not eating properly that I passed out of exhaustment.
Now I'm working hard towards the coming footbag season, I want to be in the top of my game when competitions start and since my last entry I've played footbag 14! times (30).

I've played only 5 times (35) in the last couple of week, because like Nelly says: Im back from New York. BTW, have you noticed that Nelly's wound is finally healed.
New York. My and my girl friend flew there with Finnair and we stayed at Big Apple Hostel, 100 m from Times Square. The hostel was really cheap, considering it's in NY. We had our room cleaned daily, there was a TV with satellite in the room and we even had our own toilet and shower in the room. The only down side was that our room was in 7th floor, and there was no elevator. Or actually there was, but it was only for the hostel staff
We (she) had prepared really well for the trip. We had a lot of addresses and opening hours of places we wanted to visit. We stayed there for 8 nights, so we had plenty of time.
First we went to Jersey Gardens, which is a huge outlet mall. We stayed there for 9-10 hours. Actually, I wanted to stay, but my gf wanted to leave
I bought a lot of clothes and two pairs of shoes.
As I mentioned in an earlier entry, my digi camera disappeared. So, I had to by a new one. Luckily, the guys who were undirectly responsible (or so I told them
) for my old one getting lost, they paid 75% of the value of it. So I bought Nikon CoolPix 5900, and I'm loving it. Speaking of loving it, I thought there would be more McDonalds restaurants in Manhattan, perhaps I just didn't see them all. And I'm not loving it, I rather "Eat fresh". I also bought an iPod mini which is brilliant.
As I said, we had satellite TV and 80 channels. Naturally, watching TV in States, you see a LOT of commercials. American commercials suck. They are just really, really bad. I couldn't believe my eyes. No imagination, what so ever. But the TV shows were great. At almost any time of day, I could watch re-runs of such classics as The Golden Girls, The Cosby Show or Roseanne. And since I'm a real reality-TV geek, spending the night in hostel, eating chocolate M&Ms (you can't get them from Finland) watching some c-list celebrities trying to survive in the jungle, was like heaven.
We saw all (or so I like to think) the major and a lot of the minor places we'd planned to go see. Everything has to end sometimes. We decided to save some money, and not take a cab to JFK, so we took A train subway from Port Authority station. That's what it says in our insurance report. We had to fill one, since Saara left her brand new purse there. Inside of it: her cell phone, my cell phone, her vallet, and her passport
We had no choice but to go straight to JFK anyway because we were short on time. We got to Finnair's check-in desk, and a flight attendance told us it doesn't matter! Then we went to the passport control, and a security officer there told her it doesn't matter! Then finally in Finland in the passport control, a security officer told her to wait. All he did, was reported the passport lost!
Jet lag has been crazy, today I actually had a job interview for ExxonMobil at 9.15 AM, I fell asleep after 5.30 AM and woke up at 7.30 AM. Still, I believe I aced the interview. It was for a really easy, turn-your-brain-off job, but it pays really well. Lets hope for the best.

I woke up last night feeling like I had to correct some crucial error not knowing what it was. Now I know what it is.
To my last entry I wrote it was the formerly band-aided Nelly who had the hit "I'm from New York". But it's Ja Rule. Did Ja Rule also used to have a bandage? I know Ja Rule is the really short one, but did he also used to "wear" a bandage? Pheww, now I got it off my chest.
Edit: Most useless post I've written to this forum ever, I hope.

Ben, we can get M & M's from Finland. From Helsinki airport's duty free shops, to be exact
. Thanks for offering to bring them to me, but I think I'll hog a lot of them during Green Cup. I still can't believe I'm going to go to San Fransisco. And I still can't believe I can't spell San Francisco.
We started outdoor season a little over week ago. I've played six times (41) since last entry. Outdoor net is so much fun
. My season begins with JFK Net Battle in Jyväskylä on May 21. That'll be a good warm-up for Green Cup.
Oh, I have to mention this, the first Subway in Turku will open in hopefully just a few days. I took a sneak peek of it a week ago. Oh man, I'm going to have to say goodbye to my low-carb diet. I love subway. Perhaps, I should first try to get sa fast as I can, and then lose all the fat and get to be on Subawy commercials. I love subway food enough to risk my own health. At one point, when I didn't know they are going to open a restaurant to Turku, I actually seriously considered becoming a fransiche entrepreneur
. I decided not to, because I would've eaten myself to bankruptcy.
Oh yeah, I also got a new summer job. I'm going to work for ExxonMobil
. apparently filling up their tank trucks. Sounds boring and probably is, the money is good though. They were cool with me going to Worlds, because I'm a member of the Finnish National Team
. I'm glad they're patriotic.
More later, now I got to go bitch about my new mobile, which was broken when I bought it. Fuck you Nokia.

Then I have no choice but to behave myself until we get to SFO airport. I checked, there's a Subway.
Yes, it's true, the first Subway opened in Turku 9 days ago. I really wanted to be its first customer, but I slept too long. I've been there 4 times now. The only complaint I have is the fact they didn't have wholewheat bread the first two times I was in there. Tomorrow I'll go again
(<- that's me with my mouth full of a foot-long Roast beef, turkey & ham sub).
(<- that's me crapping the fool-long).
On a different note, I stopped my low-carb diet
.
I started my new job at ExxonMobil today. I'm a bulk loader/unloader. It's actually less boring than I thought. It pays really well too.
Footbag, I love it. I've only played 7 [48] times since my last entry, though. Only one of them was doubles, which worries me. Fuck you Tapio for studying the way you do. Forget the law school, play footbag. Who wants to be a lawyer, when you can be a footbagger.
7 more days until we're off to the Golden State and Green Cup. I've got a constant footbag boner just thinking about it.

I'm off to Green Cup in 10 minutes. I've played only twice since last time, because of my groin injury. It's getting better, I hope, but it still troubles me. Me and Oskari came in third at JFK Net Battle in Jyväskylä last weekend. I'm a little surprised we did that well because we were both injured and we didn't play that well. That's a decent start to the season.
