that's what the rastas say around here... the roll their Rs. they also say boo ya ka shah.
I thought of that because I was in kingston for the weekend. but not the jamaican one.
Tom and I didn't get to do the fashion show demo because of a miscommunication, so we just hung out and had fun. I had about 20 minutes of good, energetic footbag all weekend, which was the first 20 minutes... I hit superfly both sides within 2 tries, that was the best part of my footbag playing. That's actually pretty huge for me, as that's not one of my better moves. Beyond that first good bit, though, I don't think I hit anything good except for the odd longer string here and there. We did some taping here and there, but a lot of it was prettyboy footbag with pants and lots of tilts, so maybe we can throw that in as an interlude in some future video where we're (I'm) actually playing well.
I'm trying to think of what else we did. We just have fun. We eat big meals, sleep late, drink good beer, smoke too much, and play footbag. Kingston's fun.
Less than a month to GRASS, I've taken over on the shirt front. Right now, I'm having discussions with Adam D about the logo, then I'll call my friend Pepe about printing. What else... maybe I'll have something to write about in a bit. I wish someone was confused about a trick or something so I could write a trick tip.

strollin at work, walking down the hall / wad up my trash like a basketball / city slicker stands by as I glance at him / chuckles at me as I lose it off the rim / now, I'm usually discrete with showin off my feet / but my honor was in question / had to show him I'm elite
I started out slow so I could do a good show / didn't want to break a sweat, I just wanted him to know / so I tossed it on my foot and I busted swirling flapper / and that was all it took to send him running to the crapper
freestyle is life cuz for me it's a synonym / for these days that I live and this world that I'm spinnin' in / like trippin as I'm grippin tight on my reality / keep it light and loose, no room for disparity /
just flow/
off to the session to teach myself a lesson / chicas on the sideline, and they wouldn't stop messin / "what happened to your shirt? what happened to your pants? / are you having a seisure? that looks like riverdance"
but they sat with their coffees and sipped on their cups / and before they could help it, they started to warm up / "how's he stand up straight while spinnin and duckin? / how'd he catch that thing without even lookin? / what did he break to get his ankles so flexy? / I just got ta admit it, these naked boys are sexy"
before I knew it, my style sucked in those women / jaws hangin open and they heads was swimmin / before they knew it, I was dressed and up and gone / left their ears ringing, singin on and on and on...
just flow /

I just got back from some kicky ball at this park down the street from my apt. It's so splendid now that spring has sprung and sunny sessions are the standard. Today a bunch of middle school track & field kids came running by and stopped to sip from the drinking fountain, and it wasn't long before the wow's started. I always start shredding really hard when I know people are watching, so I got some really crazy strings in. It was cool. A few were kinda standing around me asking questions and being like "jeepers, you're good!" "those shoes look really worn out from doing that" "can I ride your skateboard?" Normally I'd get annoyed with that kind of stuff after awhile, but they weren't being jackasses like kids can be, so I decided to just flow/ with it.
Speaking of spring, it's beginning to feel like a lot like tourney season. I can almost smell that festival at Funtastik. The event here in Rachacha will officially mark the beginning of all that. I'd better get good at footbag soon... it's time to drill all those concepts that are shaky, come up with secret moves to bust in new circles, and of course brush up on my four square skills.
Hmm... I think I'll go back outside and work on blenders and sailing for awhile.

Ok, I'm back. Just wanted to say that the slickest move ever has to be blazing (no plant) void:
clip>op in>back spin>>same in>same clip
It's official. Someone out there... please, for all that is good and right in this world, hit that move.
Of course, it would be infinitely slicker if it ended on flapper. Get back to me in ~10 years about that.

Had a good few sessions in recent days... mike and I busted on the street corner 2 days ago and it was Aric and Chris at RIT yesterday. symp whirls are coming along better and better. They've been my main focus lately, when I'm focusing on anything at all, and I've been hitting them bsos a lot. really satisfying. BSOS torques as well. Soon, I hope to hit pswhirl > symp whirl rpt. that's gonna be an awesome feeling. My strings are getting better, and I'm working the osis > infinity from my flip clip out... that was a SERIOUS problem. I'm doing drifters, torques, symp whirls, and ps whirls instead. PDX drifter midstring is becoming quite solid both sides.
What else... I'm working on looking at my clippers as I'm about to do stepping sets and as I'm catching butterflies, that's helping me make sure they're going to be clean. Midstring spins, ducks, and dives are happening more and more, but just clipper to clipper... Occasionally there will be a mirage, butterfly, or whirl. I may have hit a nice clean, crisp spinning whirl yesterday, which is a rarity. Gyro still eludes me. If anyone who used to have troubles with gyro reads this, please leave me tips, I need them.
Playing every day is great, but I need to increase my energy level so that my time is better spent learning instead of being tired and fighting to play decently. Any amateur dieticians around? oh yeah... Dr Google... :/ he should be able to help...
I LOOOOOOOOOVE spring... I love footbag. GRASS!!!!! Wish we had more stitcher sponsors.

ok about gyro...........
when you do it you really want to keep your back straight. set the bag straight up really nice and then turn. dont rush. after the set plant your feet and follow for any component.
the key to this is a straigh set at the right height. no one mobiuses from head high. spin and set in unison and keep the bag anywhere from calf height (vortex) to anything above knee (gyro clip). with gyro mirage, which i saw you have trouble with, i want to say realease the set a little earlier, quick spot, and think of it as a clip ss mirage, just set from the other side.
straight set, straight back, good height, good balance.
i hope this helps becuase i really tried to think of how i do my shit.

took some of david's advice in a short 1 hour solo session outside. I got natural feeling gyro mirages on both sides, but still not at all comfortable. Just one step closer. I did symp whirl > ps whirl both sides. That was tiring. what else... LOTS of drifters, conservatively, I'll say I did 9 consecutively. I was proud of that. 15 ripwalks first try (a request from my friend keith yesterday, but I was done playing by then). "gyro-toe" style rakes super clean and easy both sides. I forget what else. Not much for sets... muted pixie clipper > symp whirl both sides. Fun Fun Fun...
We'll see what happens tomorrow... It's nice getting a few new combos every session.

for me, I set the bag up perfectly for a gyro but it almost always isn't straight up. So that's my problem. It'll be done though. I'm trying to do this funky string that I think looks really cool: clip > opp. clip > gryo clip > backspinning clip > zooming clipper.
Matt- My footfighter is awesome. I'll show it off next session (that I can go to). I've had some good controlled strings with it.
Oh and as said in my blog I can kind of do frigid osis. I love how my game is starting to unfold. I can do spins and ducks (sometimes) and am getting a really flowy style but I still can't pixie and fairy. No shuffling for Pat. I almost hit fairy muted ss osis though. Furoscious ? spelling errors.

I played at Geneseo today with Chris and Aric. I had a great time, we were all playing well, with good strings all around. I hit Janiwalker BSOS for the first time, and I was close to symp blazing legover, ps whirling swirl, and diving drifter. I was playing around with one-foot strings and hit symp whirl> rev swirl> pdox drifter> far legover. Symp whirls are pretty solid now. Footbag felt like fun today. With GRASS approaching, we'll be playing a lot next week. I recently started playing a lot more, and my legs are starting to catch up with the increase in effort.

Twas a good session today, today started really really crappy, so the nice session heightened my spirits a bit. Strings were that great, did manage to hit a lot of the new strings from last night's solo session, which was cool.
I had one really long string, with lots of unique stuff on both sides, shuffle, ducks/dives... and actually stopped to a hand catch pass to Matt. Felt really good to just stop and say I've hit what I wanted to time to pass.
Hit diving drifter after several attempts, which feels really cool. Should have ducking pdx drifter and torque next session. I'm really going to miss sessions with the crew during the summer, shredding in a circle is 10x better than solo session. I feel like i get more accomplished in hardcore solo sessions, but having someone there to push you and give you props gives you that extra push to hit that new move or string.

hey matt of course i will go to NJ with you.
paul...
holy shit dude! lol those are a bit out of my reach right now. my atomic sets need lots of work, and my blurry ducking is very inconsistent as well, but ill give them some tries.
short crappy session outside today.. the wind was killer. had a couple nice strings nothing all that great. after some work in the lab, i had a short drill session in my room.
whirl > drifter (rpt) ... couple different times.
5 or 6 clean blurriests all strong side
pixie double over down
pixie paradon
lots of solid attempts at vertigo and ducking pdx torque.. no success yet though.
Session THURSDAY 5 PM in front of Wallace Library.

keep trying man, and it definately gives you somehting specific to work on even if for the long term.KronoKicker wrote: paul...holy shit dude! lol those are a bit out of my reach right now. my atomic sets need lots of work, and my blurry ducking is very inconsistent as well, but ill give them some tries.

right now im not too worried about hitting big new moves... ive been really working on my weak downtime components ... torque, drifter, dlo, whirls, and double downs.
Mainly its been drifters, which has paid off greatly, really happy with the progress of my drifters on both sides.
Next is probably DLOs.
