South side Chicago jam. CIC CREW PLEASE READ!!

Post by tuomoruutufan »

I have yet to pick a date but im thinking early june.

The plan. Lots of footbag lots of 4square, frisbee (maybe even an ultimate match), been bag toss, BBQ (my treat :D )

I was thinking of a place in public that i wont have to pay for AND DUH it came to me find a nice spot near a skate park. The south side of chicago is covered in public outdoor skating parks that happen to be very popular.

Flyers will be handed out at all the local schools and be handed out by fellow southside shredor josh elmer who works for hot topic.

But im relying on the cic crew to put footbag in its best possile light. so im very flexible on the date. So CIC please give your input.

another thought is to get some local bands involved that makes things trickier but i do know some local bands and it never hurts to ask about these things.

The south side freestyle comunity is pathetic god dam 2 people on the entire southside of chicago and im a newb and the other one has half an ankle but he doesnt seem to notice.

I love the way you think, man :P Keep in mind that Bluesfest is June 9-12 so I would suggest not having it on that date. No point to overlapping the 2 when we can have twice the fun, ya know?

exactly why i didnt post the date. Twice the fun it is then june 4th will be the southside jam. and the sunday after it will be blues fest SWEEEET.

im gonna play footbag until my head explodes 8O this summer.

im gonna spend a couple of weeks scoping out areas asking around about having bands play before doing flyers and heavy promoting so if anyone has any input please dont hesitate to ask.

No, you might need that. Ducks and dives would look funny without it

Speaking of that i hit diving butterfly SS and ducking leg over OS.

no to hit both those tricks a second time is the hard part. i got a bad feeling it was just luck. maybe that will change during todays session

Josh is insane, hehe. Personally I do not believe a shred scene just happens. It takes a long, long time to find and gather interested players to come out and keep them coming out. The ones that keep coming and keep asking you questions about moves and such, they're the ones that are likely to become freestylers. Fortunately most of the work involves a lot of kicking and that's something we like to do anyway.

yeah i already discoverd through my freinds that its hard to motivate people to work hard at these tricks. I dont get it i see you guys doing all this cool shit and all i can think is wow i cant wait till im good enough to do that stuff but its like other people see it and say wow your really good now excuse me while i go do something else.

from now on im gonna shred at skate parks. I found a great one by where i live and its the place i have chosen for the jam. go there with my freinds who skate and just shred my ass off and hopefully peek some interest in some viewers.

im gonna type up all the info of my jam and send it out to everyone. as long as there is no complaints about June 4th 12pm-???.

so yeah zeke i got a ton of respect for you being able to organize CIC im sure its been some hard work staying motivated in such an unpopular sport for such a long period of time. I would really like to contribute to this movement if i can get some bodies on the southside and expand CIC further south and watch this sport grow.

Worst case scenario is i keep kicking on the north side with all you bad asses so i guess i shouldnt complain im sure there are some people who have nobody to shred with at all. That is a sad sad thought

I know what you mean. I stopped trying to understand it and just accepted it. It just seemed to drive them farther away the more you push. I figure I find the few that are genuinely interested in freestyle and steer them in the right direction without being overwhelming. Let them set their own pace.
June 4th 12pm-???
Date sounds good. The time, well... honestly though, we don't have the best track record when it comes to showing up on time. That is something we have to fix, though.
hard work
I don't know if it's hard, neccissarily. But there are definatley some aspects that could be more reliable and efficient. Footbag is what I do to have fun. I'd rather be kicking than wasting my time dealing with other people's nonsense.

I understand it must be quite the journey to get out here sometimes but we really appreciate the fact that you're wllling to come out. Usually I try to find one of our regular spots that's convenient for the most people. But that still means that everyone is commuting about half an hour or so. I have to put up with the CTA which isnt always pleasant.
