Anyone know what the largest cash prize for winning a tourney ever has been? What do worlds winners get?

Japanese Footbag Championships I had some big cash prizes. First prize for men`s routines got the equivalent of $1000 USD. Sick Trick winner got a nice chunk of change too... I can look up the exact quantities. But yeah, Pepsi Japan threw money at us, it was cool. Did I mention there were no entry fees?

I won $800 for first at CSS3 when Ethan Husted Hosted it. I won other events too and came home with $1150 total.

I heard Vasek won about 2000 total Montreal Worlds 2004

The biggest prize money was at Worlds cca 10-15 years ago- Dexter found it somewhere in old footbag magazine. It was something like 3000-5000 Usd.

Yeah, a long time ago we (the sport) actually had some corporate sponsorship, I think from Wham-O, the makers of the Hacky-Sack (tm). I think they finally figured out that (at that time, anyway) the competitive sport of footbag was not doing much for the sales of their products (many people bought and played with those two-panel baseball style leather hacky-sacks, but very few ever had any idea that there was a serious side to the game). The fact that the World Championships was held in Golden, Colorado year after year (practically the middle of nowhere, publicity-wise) probably didn't help. I think that the location was seen as a matter of fairness, so that the event was in the middle of the continent, so some competitors didn't have to cross the whole continent to get there while others only had to cross one state. I'm glad Worlds finally made the move to more interesting locations, even if some have to travel thousands of miles.

If I understand correctly, Red Shred and Rippin' are to thank for that particular prize-purse being as large as it was (unusually large for a medium-sized tournament with no corporate (or even IFPA) sponsorship. Red Shred did lots of work to get his club registered as an official University of Colorado club that year, and was able to get some money from the school as a budget to host the event. The money was not supposed to go towards the prize-purse, but Red did with it as he saw fit. Good for him! And Rippin' Rick threw in big dough from his own pocket on the condition that a head-to-head shred event be held, and thus was born the "Most Rippin' Run" event. Rippin' is the coolest! I wish I'd been to that event. Still, Red sent me a t-shirt from it, just because. Thanks, Red.
