Think about footbag

Post by Senor Grommet »

I believe that if you think about footbag on a regular basis, preferably several times a day, you will get better more quickly than one who thinks about footbag less often. plus its fun. What do you say?

Too much philosophy for me this early. 8O Well, yeah, when there's a boring lesson at school, I think about footbag and finger-shred. I don't think that anyone could prove any connections between thinking and getting better.

I air shred all the time! I find that practicing the steps of any move will help you better understand how to hit it. For instance, I never would have dreamed of hitting ripwalk or blur, but I was just fucking around, air shredding, and I found that I could do the movements pretty quickly. Later I went home and tried to hit the tricks. After footing ripwalk a dozen or so times I hit it, as for blur I haven't managed to seal it yet, although I have footed a bajillion times. Gimme another week...

I think it depends on what your thinking about.

If your just thinking about the sport in general and not about anything specific it won't help you at all.

If, on the other hand you are thinking about your game and what you need to work on to improve it will help you. I often get bored at school and think about what tricks I need to work better and think about how I get them to work for me.
I also spend alot of time thinking of new runs to hit and then later trying them out.

I find I am always thinkging about footbag to some degree.

I put alot of thought into bag stitching and shoe modding and what I have been doing incorrectly on a certain trick lately.
I like to picture the trick being done right over and over, and I imagine myself doing it correctly.

Also, I find something that helps alot is to really really remember what it felt like when you hit a trick correctly and then think about that feeling over and over so that the next time you play that will be the way in which you attempt it, thus causing progression (I think/hope).

ya!, what Tom said.

Tom and I ofen find each other tell ing one another to relax and think about the trick being done correctly, and it helps alot. It just seems like you forget all the attempt you had at it before.

I think about footbag all the time. Like things that I'm gonna try next session and what I should learn etc. But I'm not sure if it makes me better at footbag. :?

The more I think about footbag, the more psyched I get about footbag. The more psyched I get, the more regularly I play. The more regularly I play, the better I become.

I see a direct correlation between thinking more about footbag and improvement. If there's one thing I've learned from my friend Tom Mosher, it's the value of being excited about what I do. When I'm all psyched up for something, I feel like I have more energy, I have more confidence, and my mind is more open to the possibilities of new tricks / combos / etc. Thinking about something and being really into it a lot can create a change in your attitude about it, and attitude goes a LONG way...

When I think about the complexity, possibility, and beauty of footbag, all I want to do is play more and more. Having that going on in my head all day at work gets me primed for shred in the afternoon.

What Matt said is true, I think.

It's this simple, and we've heard stuff like this all the time: "You can do
anything if you put your mind to it!"

Kinda cheesy but sooo true. Just recently, I've been progressing much faster than I ever have. The more I progress, the more I think about footbag. The more I think about footbag, (yep you got it) THE MORE I PROGRESS. They go hand in hand. If you imagine yourself over and over doing perfect, flawless tricks I think it helps you later when you actually try them. Just as any other sport, footbag is a mental game too. I'm done now.

i think that this is the ONLY reason i can even play at the moment. ive progressed really quickly (in my eyes) and its because ive truly thrown myself head first into everything footbag. im always thinking about it and it subsequently makes me play between 2 and 6 hours every day. (less if i had a really long shred the day before)

but you get the idea!

This is proof enough for me. There are different levels of subconscious learning. This girl is trained how to play a piano piece for an extended period of time, without being able to actually touch a piano. She then performs an exquisite piece at a concert hall.

I was reading some workout thing somewhere (I don't remember where, but I know for a fact I read this), and it was basically a study showing the effects of mentally working out. Group A was the control group, and Group B was told to imagine lift weights. Group B got very minimalistic results back, but they still somehow got a small benefit from just thinking about weight lifting, while Group A didn't. I just wish I could remember where I read that... :?

One thing I find is that if I think about videos of good players alot; so much that I have the images of them hitting the tricks infused into my brain, then I simply perform those tricks better.

I'm going to have to call bullshit on ol' Derren's dance grooves over there. You can't just have that sort of finger dexterity by someone telling you shit in your ear over and over. I mean, there is simply a physical restriction on things that you can "think" your way out of doing. Practicing to obtain muscle memory is a waste of time?

And at the end they basically say she has played a lot before. So... what was the point? Stella got her groove back. Who gives a shit?
