Is lead a good filler?
Is lead a good filler?
Hello everyone,
I am using lead as a filler and like it. I know it is poisonous but I did not think this is a problem since I generally don't eat my footbags.
I have heard people say that the lead can somehow get through the footbag tissue and get absorbed by your body. Is that true? How seriously a problem do you think it is?
Peace
Daniel

Dont use lead!
When you handle it, it will get absorbed into your skin. When you kick/wash your bag the pellets with break down and you will get lead dust and residue over your hands which is not good.

Man, everyone is so down on lead. It's not that bad! We all used to have pewter soldiers - or i did anyway. and i'm still alive! You're not going to die of lead poisoning from having lead in your footbag. As long as you don't get it wet, then roll it in your hands a bunch then lick your hands over and over again, you're probably going to be fine.
Also, don't lick your shoes. Then again, if i need to tell you that you've probably already got lead poisoning.
Anyway, lead is toxic, but not insanely toxic. It's mercury you have to watch out for.

i dont think is all that bad. i use lead shot. i opened up my old abshire bag, it looked like the same shot that i was using, it also left the same gray residue on the inside. i dont think steel shot leaves a gray residue that looks like pencil. so the moral of the story is i think abshire uses lead shot too.

I found some websites talking about lead absorbtion.
http://www.eco-usa.net/toxics/lead.shtml
http://www.epa.nsw.gov.au/leadsafe/leadinf3.htm

I had a look through it and unfortunately none of them say how dangerous it is to handle a footbag that contains lead. After reading it, my view is that playing with it is fine. Handling it without skin protection as a stitcher is not. I don't think anyone really knows how dangerous this would be given mixed views about lead.
Preferably I would not like to use lead. Tom Mosher said BB's are a good alternative. Where could I get BB's?
Peace

I think using lead it fine , When I go fishing somtimes I use lead sinkers yes I have some but they done make them anymore and I put them onto my line with my teeth to crimp it, has a nice taste acually maybe ill start eating it. I think its only dangerous if you are around lead like alot and stuff , and also , lead it much better for footbags than bb's becuase lead is soft and wont chip and create holes like bb's will.

hey guys,i went to my doc the other day...i explained what footbag is to him and if he could see any dangers in using lead for filler.he said lead could be dangerous,if u lick on your footbags,or eat them,or if they are wet and u get this grey water in your mouth,so basicly, ass long ass u dont eat your lavers or your footbags you wont die on lead overtoxis(or something like this)...but u will die,someday,anyway...

A friend of mine who is a welder I think got lead poisoning from welding lead galvinised stuff without protection, he got really sick for a long time and its had some lasting effects on him, lead poisoning is not pretty.
There are a lot of bad things you can get without protection I guess... like lead poisoning... and pregnant.
The moral is, use protection.

GOLD IS WAY WAY BETTER.
If you're even considering using lead than you are too poor for footbag.
I baught enough BB's for 10 bags for $7 at K-Mart.
I bought enought Pebble Beach Rocks for 20 bags for $2 at a Fish Store.
DON'T USE SEAD BEADS OR LEAD OR ANYTHING THAT TURNS TO DUST THAT YOU COULD BREATHE IN IF THE FOOTBAG HITS YOUR NOSE OR EYES.
DUH
I'll send you the Pebble stuff for like $5 bucks, please don't use lead.
