I say stay fat.
People give you more props when you shred if you're overwieght. If you're skinny you have no excuse not to be as good as Irish/Moir/Chan ect.. When you're overweight and can bust people are like "damn that looked hard." Now that I'm only slightly overweight I get no props cause everyones like, "sure with skinnny legs that bluriest looks easy" or " try a PS whirl with 30 extra pounds stick man."
So I have been spending several hours a day at dairy queen and not excersising to get plump again so I can again regain the throne of phattest fat shredder alive.

You guys all forgot one important tip! You need to weight train along with the footbag (cardio) and diet. Muscles burn more calories and weight training boosts your metabolism like crazy! I usually train a muscle group a day except Sunday--biceps, triceps, legs, back, deltoids, and chest. I do abs every other day. Do about 3 or 4 different exercises at about 3 reps of 10 to 15. Along with that, do your footbag atleast three times a week, and follow the 6 small and frequent (and healthy) meals diet.

Interesting, I thought human body can only gain about 2,5 kg pure muscle mass per year at MAX with right diet and really much of workout... Or so i have read from somewhere. Though you have might done that for 4 years and so on..
hehe, you are most probably right. What I meant to say was when I started excercising, eating right, and most importantly not drinking gargantuan amounts of beer this happenned:
- over 3 or 4 weeks I lost a bit under 10 kilos without noticeable muscle gain
- over the next couple of months, with the same diet / training, I put those 10 kilos back on, but it felt and looked like muscle.

So yes i over-simplified in my first statement there.

On a side-note: I really admire people who have the time and patience to dose absolutly all they eat in carbs / kals / protein etc.. I've never been able to take the time to -calculate- what kind of meal I should be having.

Jas wrote:First of all, if u really wanna burn the fat, the best time of day to do that is to do it morning, this is because you have had nothing to eat for energy and the only source of energy when exercising is your own fat. Using ur own fat as energy will help burn so much fat its not funny.
And your diet, keep drinking the water, keep ur fluids up, and a good protein+fat diet is good. U do not need as much carbos as u think, foods with fat is good when on diets like this because u can use the actual fat as energy instead of slow burning carbos (AND I MEAN HEALTHY FATS, NOT MCDONALDS FAT) eg. natural cooking oils, animal fat is not as good because it can cause high choleterol levels.. Protein is needed to repair tissues and muscles, and to keep ur body toned, but exercise is needed.
EXERCISE AS MUCH IN THE MORNING
Tuomoruutufan, this is almost exactly what I would've said. I've used diet like that for 4 months now. I've lost 10 pounds AND my results in the gym have gone up. It's easy to lose weight, but to lose fat, now that's tricky.
DoctorJay wrote:if you want to loose weight do not panic!

it will take time - one kilo bodyfat contains 6000-7000 kcal - take a deficit of maximum 500 kilocalories per day - refeed one time per week or per 2 weeks. ie 500 *6= 3000 -1000= 2000 kcal /per week so do not think to loose 10 pounds a day

on the refeed day eat about 1000 kcal above your normal ( = before your diet) amount.

this will reduce the self lowering of your metabolism.
So far so good.
DoctorJay wrote:there are a few things which I do not recommend for a diat in combination with footbag.

- do not go with high prot and high fat
- do not run on an empty stomach - the energy bilance is important neither time of sport nor time for your meals . Energy is energy.

- low carb diets are not good for your recovery. Running in the morning will cost too much energy so your muscles are not fresh enough to improve your footbag skills as fast as possible.
No no no no. WHAT? I'm sorry to say this DoctorJay, but it seems like you have no idea what you're talking about.

My advice is to go with high-prot and high-fat diet. No one needs the amount of carbs modern people eat these days. You'll be fine with 70-100 g of carbs a day. That's 280-400 kcal from carbs. Then, you should get 2-3,5 g of proteins per lean body mass a day. That's probably between 150-300 g a day for most footbaggers. That's 600-1200 kcal from protein. Then 50-100 g of fat a day. That's 450-900 kcal a day. In total 1330-2500 kcal a day.

Now, the 1330 kcal is really for a little girl. I get about 2700 kcal a day, and I'm still losing fat.

Run on empty stomach. The most effective way to lose fat is to do HIIT training. Look for High-Intensive Interval Training from body-building sites. The point is, it takes a lot of energy. And, as Jas said, because you don't have any carbs in your system, you'll start using fat as your primary source of energy. This doesn't happen if you have carbs in your system.

Basically, there are only two times to eat carbs, for breakfast and after training. Try to eat proteins all day long. Eat most of the fat in the evening.

Here's a list of food stuff that's good for the type of diet I just described:

- Eggs. Albumen includes only protein. Yolk has more protein, but it also has fat. An omelette is an excellent snack in the evening.
- Meat. Chicken, turkey, minced meat, steaks are all high in protein and the amount of fat varies.
- Bran is absolutely the best form of carbs. I eat 1 dl of bran every morning.
- Protein bars and drinks. Whey protein powder is the best choice of protein in the morning and just before gym workout, because it absorbes itself really fast. Soy protein is the best in the evening. It absorbes itself slowly, so your body gets protein all night long. If someone is interested, I've got a really good recipe for home-made protein bars. I've done them, and they're cheap and good.
- After workout, whether it's footbag, gym, jogging or whatever, take a recovery drink. It should have 50g of whey protein and 20-50 g of carbs. This is the only time I eat fastly absorbing carbs.
- Some dairy products have a good protein/carb ratio.

What not to eat:

- sugar-coated anything
- candy
- chips
- sugary sodas, besides diet coke tastes better

Well said. But remember this everyone, reading opinions and even less epinions, is not researching.

I've got one more tip, avoid DoctorJay's tips . Sorry, DoctorJay, no offence. Your tips help losing WEIGHT, which in this case would be muscles. Your muscles need a lot of protein, just to maintain themselves. Nobody needs carbs that much.

In order to lose FAT, I think you (everyone) should eat:
20 % carbs
30 % fat
50 % proteins

Ive experienced some kick-ass weight loss since I started shredding.

I wasn't really sure how much/noticable it was until I was looking at some old footage of myself with a big fat jiggly gut and tits.

I am so much happier now.

I have always done my best to eat well (lots of protien, enough carbs, veggies, milk, etc) but now that I am eating well AND shredding like crazy my body just keeps getting sweeter and sweeter.

I have shape now! Hurrah!

Footbag is great cardio and the better you get the more intense the workout gets as the tricks become increasingly physically demanding.

I'm vegan, and have weighed exactly the same since I was 14 (137 lbs) Yeah, I can eat pretty much anything I want and as much of it as I want, as long as it's not meat, eggs, or dairy, and I never gain a pound...

No weight gain yet. Just muscle mass... I guess there was some fat on me somewhere, because my legs are like rocks now, but I still weigh the same.

The human body is a funny thing. It knows what it needs, but sometimes it won't tell you (or you might not understand the language it's using)

Well I'm certain footbag is a good weight loss technique, because I have a friend who plays DDR (dance dance revolution) almost every day, and he lost almost 80 pounds) Freestyle and DDR are very similar.

All my information I gave are part of the Book " Handbuch der Sporternährung" from Prof.Dr. Michael Hamm . He is offering a nutrition advisery in the olympic centre of Hamburg.

there are endless discussion about this topic - if you think that you're way is the right one than that's ok.

I got not the time nor the motivation to discuss this right now - because there will be no end .

you can join any bb board and look which type of diat is the best - result is endless discussion.

I am glad to be in Finnland this year so we can talk about this issue in person - maybe I can convince you that I have some knowledge in nutrition .

it is hard to judge a type of a diat if you are not able to put the methods in the whole metabolic process.

your numbers mohkale reminding me for a bb diat or for a weightlifter, benchpress person - not for a footbag player.

Don't eat the whole edible part of the eggs, unless you eat one a day which is nothing. One egg contains more than enough cholesterol for the day. The yolk part is what contains the cholesterol, so eat egg whites. They have the majority of protein anyways. Watch it on the low carb crap. All of those meats have cholesterol...the atkin's idiot died of a heart attack from his own diet. Plus, carbs are your energy. You still need them. I have done low carb stuff before and I had no energy to do anything during the day. It doesn't burn enough fat that way. Do your cardio, weight training, and diet. That way you will healthily burn your stuff off. Protein is good, it maintains your muscles. Good fat is good. Peanut butter and canola oils have good fat. Avoid partially hydrogenated anything. That is some bad stuff. And I wouldn't suggest (soda) pop at all in any form. I heard that if you drink a can of it a day for a year, you will gain 15 pounds from it at the end of the year. And I got a lot of this information from my head from past research. I also read the Muscle and Fitness Hers magazine monthly. Just incase you don't believe me.

This is bad tip... More than 2g per 1kg body mass a day is very unhealthly and will make you feel weak and tired. It is reall bad for nephross. The best ammount of proteins is something like 1,5*(body mass in kgs) g a day.

An about % of fat/carbs/proteins in your diet... It's better to say howa many % of energy should come from specific source. And all source about HEALTH diat I read say:
60% from carbs
30% from fat
10% proteins

1 g of carbs = 7 kcal
1 g of fat = 9 kcal
1 g of proteins = 3-4 kcal

First of all, I'm sorry if my last post sounded kind of harsh. I believe you know a lot of nutritional stuff, and you probably have read all your tips from studies. As you know, there are a lot of different studies. As a matter of fact, I was in a book store today and I saw a book about low-carb diets. It introduced over 20 differenet low-carb diets. It really is hard to know what works for whom.

My points are all from studies and books, plus I've got personal experience to back it up. But, what works for me, doesn't necessarily work for you. I believe we can all agree on that being a good tip.

I am not questioning your wisdom on nutritional facts (anymore). I guess I've just chosen another path to my goal (to be fit). Time only tells which path is the shortest.

With the "diet plan" I described earlier, I meant "a temporary period of time, in which one tries to lose fat". After that, you should cut back on protein and replace them with good carbs.

Oh, and I feel like the numbers I gave aren't for bodybuilders, but for athletes. I consider footbaggers athletes. It is my belief that lifting weights helps you play footbag better. I'm not talking about Ales-Zelinka-type-of weight lifting, look for a workout schedule from Internet or books, or if you can, ask one from personal trainer.

Actually yolk has bigger percentage of protein than egg whites.
Atkins is not the same as "low carb crap". In atkins, you try to get your body into ketosis. That really is not good for you. Carbs are sugar, not your energy. I was referring to losing fat with low carb diet. When you're trying to lose fat, you're supposed to feel like you don't have enough energy. With Atkins, or some other ketosis diet, you'll feel really exhausted, NOT with low-carb.

More than 2 g of protein per kg of lean body mass a day is not too much if you're active. You can't just watch TV, eat protein bars and expect to lose fat. You have to be active.

ptaku, I was referring to the percentage of energy that should come from each source. Sorry, I thought that was obvious.
And as far as I know, 1 g of carbs = 4 kcal.

Like DoctorJay first said, everyone should do research on their own to make sure to get a good diet plan for themselves.

I've persnoally tried MANY different diets. I've only found two that work for me. The other is a low-carb diet I described in my previous post. The other one is bad. I only ate like 1500 kcal a day. I lost weight fast. All from muscles. Fat was still there. Then I quit the diet and gained more weight because my metabolism had gotten used to low kcal amount.

Sorry if I offended someone, I'm not trying to become the new Damon .

Yeah millenniumtree, I know how that one goes. I know I was 135 when I was 14 'cause i lied and said I was 140 to get on the rugby team in grade 9 - and I weighed myself at my mom's house the other day and I'm 137!

Matti, you said carbs are sugar, not energy...what about spaghetti and all the food with starchy carbs that are you energy? Low carb diets are not the way to go.

Anyways. Do your own research cuz everybody's bodies work differently. If you want to be the healthiest, it would probably be best to just eat healthy and exercise. No low carb or high protein diets and definitely no diet pills. Those things may work at the moment, but they are scary, and you have NO clue what the stuff in them will do to you in the long run. I know from trying them once. I spent a lot of research figuring what would be best and thought I picked a pretty safe and effective pill, but I experienced heart palpitations one morning and it scared the crap outta me, and I quit them.
