Taoism has got all the pros you stated out in the other religions and I can't think of anything more interpretion-based than Taoism
That's very true. i like daoism a lot, but there are still some issues. It's a very mystical philosophy. while it has a lot of great teachings (in the same way the bible does) some of the stuff is just wierd, especially the sex stuff (much like the bible actually).
yep, the sex stuff is confusing me...
do you have an inet link to the picture ? Can't remember anything like that...

There's a quote saying : Jesus was no christian, now would he have been
-Richard Vock-

"And today the great Yertle, The Marvelous he,
Is King of the Mud. That is all he can see.
And the turtles, of course...all turtles are free
As turtles and, maybe, all creatures should be."

correction : "..nor would he have been"

I think the complete mystical character is like the stories in the bible.
They should not be taken as thurth, but as analogies; so, these parts of the religion interest me, but in an interpreting way

yardjunkjew wrote:oh yeah, about that borgia/christ thing - I keep waiting and waiting for a picture of christ to show him as the semite that he was. when do we get a dark skinned jesus? there weren't a whole lot of white people in judea under roman occupation!
seriously. jesus honestly was probably a short (ok, parts of this is just because i think it would be funny and ironic if it was all totally accurate), grimy, homeless, dark-skinned jew. parts of that are, of course, definitely true. the bible says that Jesus was physically plain ("there was nothing in his appearance to draw us to him" or something to that affect, so basically, he was ugly), and of course Jewish.

i think the term christian is overused, mis-used, and becoming even a negative thing. its a shame.

I remember now - I read about this in the Tao of Pooh. It's a comparison of Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism.

Also, if anybody was wondering what i was talking about with regards to Taoist sexual practice, I was reading in my ex-roommate's chinese philosophy textbook all this stuff about masturbating to almost climax, then stopping to "absorb the white dragon back into the body" or something equally mystical. very strange stuff.

doesn't that hurt ? I mean something like "blue balls" (dunno if that expression also exists in the american language)

America used to be a nice word. So did democracy. So did liberation. So did Christian.

All of these have been used as double speak by the bush administration, I cringe when I hear them now.

well in my understanding "democracy" never did (maybe in its most inherent meaning).

Did you ever see such ?

some of us still recognize the good in these words, or at very least the potential they hold. though i guess most people can recognize the potential democracy or america has, unless you are a communist, etc. but im still proud to be a christian, proud to be an american, and proud to be a republican. :)

cameron, you cant blame EVERYTHING on the bush administration, no matter how hard you try. i know you would like to blame genital warts on the bush administration, but in some cases, it just isnt accurate.

I believe $DIETY will apear in whatever form makes the most sense to whoever $DIETY is contacting. While some may see this as polytheism, it's just $DIETY's way of organising his interaction with people to make the most effective communication.

I believe all the different dieties are in fact the same $DIETY.

as I suppose this will not lead to a bigger discussion :
the word "democracy" has always been a symbol for completely missing an aim. Everyone claims to be democratic and no one is.

If you still want to hear more, open up another thread

oh, forgot to add sth. :

1.) No laws (not in the current oppressive manner)
2.) NO ONE SHOULD LEAD ANYONE

so, with what you said, I have many problems

America used to be a nice word
When was the US ever a nice word? Eugene Debbs was imprisioned by Woodrow Wilson only 80 some years ago for protesting WW1.

America, The Sport of the Gods, and the USA Trilogy all show how America was never a good place.

America was good! It was good for the British for getting rid of all the religious fanatics!! :D :P  8)

I think religion does have a lot of benifits - it gives you a purpose, discipline, it introduces to a large community of people who share your beliefs and it helps you get through hard times etc. but I feel like I get all those out of footbag but without oppressing other people (apart from the smell of my feet after a long day shred)

Figured it was about time to comment in here, this thread is interesting and informational, aside from the slight detour to democracy and all that.

I was raised in a family that didn't really practice religion, my mother and father are both Methodists, and I was supposed to be baptized but thankfully my family likes to procrastinate at times.

I like the fact that I was not forced into a religion, just because it is what my family believes. I can't say that I am pure atheist, and I forget the word that actually describes what I am, but basically I really don't know, and just waiting for things to unfold. I have been exposed to many religions and have basically taken the moral values that I find most valuable from the religions I have learned about. I would have to say that I am probably more taoist than anything else, I really like the idea of yin/yang.. I never look at anything with outseeing both sides. I really don't like the views on sex though :P .

Atheist:
One who disbelieves or denies the existence of God or gods.

Agnostic :
a. One who believes that it is impossible to know whether there is a God.
b. One who is skeptical about the existence of God but does not profess true atheism.
