Been studying and I had my first footbag mind wander since like . . a week. So I was really happy. I think I'm finally beginning my summer. Should be a really fun time and I'm sure there will be a constant battle with my parents 
. So yeah anyway I started to think about ways I could clean up my toe sets out of mirages and all that. I set it too low I think and I have to rush to do anything after it. So I think I've got it. So I'll pick the bag back up again next tuesday when I"M DONE!!! and I'll work my ass off so I don't come to GRASS utterly slowed down. . . But I'm not expecting too much from myself anyway since I've taken all this time off just before I knew I would improve a lot (I think I'm close to a big leap 
) but finals called. Priorities. They suck.
Just wanted to take a break and post. Oh! and matt you've gotten me to start thinking about symposium bubbas more. And dustin rhodes is also doing a lot with ps mirage and all that so it's really making me want to get better at this "symposium" nonsense. Oh man I'm just imagining mid-string symp bubbas and getting all happy. If I could do it strongside, it'll only take a few more tries to do it flipside since . . it's illusioning.

cool session, strings are getting longer for me. highlights for the day were spinning pdox delusion ending on inside for a scorpion's tail attempt (aric says it was clean), bsos pogo pdx drifter (with one as first try ever), fury first try, jani walkers both sides, and lots of long runs... can't talk much more... Yeah I gave him plenty of congrats online. I didn't know we were playing then. I was surprised he hit mobius since he doesn't usually try gyro things. Maybe this will teach him to conform to the new RFA trend that's HITTING THE STREETS. Gyro is where it's at.
Oh . . I ate a traditional gyro today at Champs Sports Bar and Grill. . . I like gyros. If I wasn't with my parents I would've stood up and did a gyro clip with a gyro in my hand. That would be fun to get on tape. Gyro something while eating a gyro, hitting a blender while carrying a blender. . um. . Let's see what else. Porque with some pork. Mirage on the roof of a mirage (can't remember who makes those cars. . One of those Japanese cars I think). Hitting fog in LA. Hitting high plains drifter whlie watching High Plains Drifter in the background. Have your mom standing in the background while you hit your mom. Alright I'm done. I've had my fun.

work work work... squishing Mosher 13 in my hands. I added more fill to it last night, from 28 grams to about 45, MUUUUCH better now. It might actually break in, and it's feeling a lot sweeter. I didn't ever doubt it, but the weight made it so unappealing that I just used other bags. but I can tell it's going to be choice now.
Shannon's lavers should be here any day now. I can tell she's going to be good, she's got a great frame for footbag, and she likes to kick. She's pretty psyched for the shoes. I can't wait, either.

I put 3 year memeber of the Rochester Footbag Association on my resume. It looks good in the place of extracurricular activities. Hopefully I find a job soon, but if not thats just more time for shred.
Summer vacation starts this weekend. GRASS!!! Just like every other footbag player on this side of the continent, I've been practicing my ass off in anticipation for this event. Just a few more days....
Anyone available to kick this week, maybe on wednesday or thursday? Give me a shout. Also, I think it's time the world had a high quality feature video of the RFA. Maybe there's some fancy AV equipment available for checkout at Geneseo's library or at the computer technology center place. I'll check that out soon.

Wednesday is no good for me to kick, but thursday is good.

squishing Mosher 13 at work again today. I'm pleased with this bag, all it needed was a little more fill. I'm going to call it Lucky, because of the big 13 on it. and because it came from Tom, so that automatically makes it lucky.
I'm hoping the weather stays all right for later so I can work on some gyro and spinning and ducking clippers. and lots and LOTS of symp whirls so my legs are all primed for furious when GRASS comes. I put a deposit down on the shirts yesterday, and they'll be ready by friday. I'm definitely still concerned about judging, especially for routines.
I've been to some great events where we've just done shred 30 and sick 3. What about this for GRASS?
I just want to toss that idea out, not vie for it. What do folks think? it would definitely be a good bit more low key, someone will still walk away with a pile of money. If we choose to still do routines, someone else better suggest a good idea for what we're going to do for judging.

As for the judging, don't be worried... I have it under control

GRASS was UNREAL.
in brief... Attendance was top notch, there were players of all levels, from beginner to world class, we had a HUGE interested audience of jugglers, the parties were quite easily as fun and as busy as the ones at East Coasts or Funtastik, we had competitors of all levels, and awesome prizes, and SHRED SHRED SHRED!!!!!!!!!!
and at length
we got to RIT at 5 on friday... jugglers just getting started, aric setting up the table inside. We started some shred outside, just us Rochester folks until about 6. Jorden came by and we started busting out. Just as Mike Anello and Ryan Thomas showed up, I ran out to pick up Nick Laroche and Kolo at the bus station. We got back and started kicking, and the Kingston Footbag Militia made their entry.
By this time, the juggling was going on full bore with hundreds of jugglers of all ages juggling EVERYTHING... we had contact jugglers, all kinds of throwing objects, diablos, devil sticks, lots of passing... EVERYTHING. Many of the jugglers had never seen freestyle footbag before, and lots of them were enthralled and amazed.
The freestyle circles continued to grow as people arrived. The Digges brothers from Saratoga are two young East Coast up and comers who have been playing a LOT and busting huge! I saw Willy (15 years old, one year of play) foot whirlygig nearly every time he tried it. I don't know why it wouldn't sit on his foot, I think because he was using a footfighter. both brothers had long shreds with lots of moves and much variety. Very clean players.
NATE PIPENBERG was my surprise favorite player to watch for the whole weekend. I think I speak for everyone when I say hoooooly crap. STYLE!!!! I've never seen a blurry drifter so perfect... just two little perfect knee motions, and it fell right on his foot. it just seemed so effortless. He's like a miniature Yves Kreil, his windows are so HUGE. Paradox torques looked like about as much effort as legover for him. In a few years, he's going to shoot straight up about 2-3 feet (I saw his older brother), and he's going to be UNREAL!!! hugest windows ever! he's only 13! His shred was really tight and really clean the whole time. on top of all that, he sponsored us with an awesome footbag (Willy D won it) and then we bought another for a prize because we needed something more. Thanks a lot for coming, Nate. It's not like he's got some kind of freak prodigy talent, either. He's just really young, really thin, he started early, and he uses good style. He's just an impressive hard worker. wow.
So. Let's see... Friday friday friday... we buzzed over to my house after the shred for the player party. LOTS of people came over and we started cracking beers. We popped the Ryan Thomas worlds DVD in, and more and more players showed up. My couches and floors were PACKED with the east coast shred scene, it was amazing... Such simple ingredients for an amazing time. We wrapped up around 1 AM and hit the sack.
I woke up bright and early on saturday, congested as all hell. At least it got me up and going. I made breakfast for my crashers (Shannon, Nick, Tom), and we were over to RIT by 10 or 11. That gave us plenty of time for everyone to show up (including Jon Schneider, Peter Irish, and Gordon Bevier) before competition at 1. We had between 4 and 6 freestyle circles, 4 square, and circle kicking going on ALL day. Jorden hit double wauxpin (paradon gyro toe) and I was pretty close to it. I fell out of the air in the mid of symp whirling swirl with my whirling foot planted firmly on the calf of my set foot... no major damage, but it messed up my shred by the end of the day. Nick Laroche hit SWIRLING SYMP DDD!!!!!! daaaaaaaaaaamn... wish I'd seen that one.
Competition flew by without a hitch. Peter Irish manned up and grabbed the mic and MC'd for us. It was great to have someone with some experience helping us take care of things. I got to count adds, and I didn't think I could do it, but I did a better job than I thought I would. Jorden was RIDICULOUS in routines, it was so hard counting his adds in real time, but FUN. Bevier was hard too. Results were posted above. Competition was fast and fun, and very well received. Shred was going on until 7 or so... I had to leave at 6:30 to run off and play a gig... that was fun. Buzzed back over to Mike's at about 10:30 for the REAL party!!!!!
Zach Hoffa and Chris Dean and Paul Agostinelli and a few others were at Mike's house when I got there with a few 12ers. Pretty soon, more people showed up, the fog moved in, the pizza arrived, and the shred videos started. BAP members in the kitchen, east coasters on the couch, shred on TV, the coach running around everywhere. Peter Irish brought an amazing yoyo / top artist. I couldn't believe this guy [Eric Girardi], he had us all with our jaws on the floor. I hope I can find some videos of him online real soon... www.bendinggravity.com
let me just start another paragraph for this guy. YOU GUYS HAVE TO CHECK HIM OUT. He was the non-footbag highlight of the whole weekend for me. I couldn't believe him. I can't even put it to words... ahhhh... disgustingly good. unreal. oh man...
so, let's see... crazy party scene, pass out at 2 or 3 or so, wake up even more congested, buzz over to RIT, SUPER low key shred. GRASS wound down so mellowly. We did some circle kicking with Olga the 14 year old prodigy juggler from Russia. Apparently, she's one of the craziest young jugglers around (although I didn't get to see) and Peter got her started with footbag. Her toe stalls were coming along nicely, and she wants to learn hands and feet juggling. I hope she plays a lot.
I bought a $20 yoyo from Eric and kicked a water bottle around with Peter (we had some great volleys). A few shredders were going off, but mostly we just kicked a little, and then took a stroll, and then, the main part of GRASS was pretty finished... Nick, Mike, Ryan, Paul, Paul, and a bunch of my friends from Rochester all went to a park downtown and kicked some more, and I demo'd for a bunch of very young kids who LOVED footbag. they thought it was great. I bought 2 classic Carol bags (2002) and a classic Lonn (2002) from Ryan Thomas for *$55*!!!!! it was amazing!!! I appreciate the purchase so much, because those footbags are going to be used by the Rochester Posse, and we're really to love having them. I've got one of the Carols with me now, and I'm squishing it... So nice, I'll post pics later.
GRASS was ridiculous. I hope others will post their thoughts in this thread or in the tournament thread. It was such a blessing and a privelege to host all my friends to do the thing I love the most in my hometown. Big big big big props go to Aric for being the point person for most of this tournament. He put the judging together, arranged things with the jugglers, offered hosting, and basically did all the crap work / organizing while the tournament was going on, instead of being out and having fun. Although, I'm pretty sure he had a good time.

Zach Hoffa and Chris Dean and Paul Agostinelli and a few others were at Mike's house when I got there with a few 12ers. Pretty soon, more people showed up, the fog moved in, the pizza arrived, and the shred videos started. BAP members in the kitchen, east coasters on the couch, shred on TV, the coach running around everywhere. Peter Irish brought an amazing yoyo / top artist. I couldn't believe this guy [Eric Girardi], he had us all with our jaws on the floor. I hope I can find some videos of him online real soon... www.bendinggravity.com
let me just start another paragraph for this guy. YOU GUYS HAVE TO CHECK HIM OUT. He was the non-footbag highlight of the whole weekend for me. I couldn't believe him. I can't even put it to words... ahhhh... disgustingly good. unreal. oh man...
so, let's see... crazy party scene, pass out at 2 or 3 or so, wake up even more congested, buzz over to RIT, SUPER low key shred. GRASS wound down so mellowly. We did some circle kicking with Olga the 14 year old prodigy juggler from Russia. Apparently, she's one of the craziest young jugglers around (although I didn't get to see) and Peter got her started with footbag. Her toe stalls were coming along nicely, and she wants to learn hands and feet juggling. I hope she plays a lot.
I bought a $20 yoyo from Eric and kicked a water bottle around with Peter (we had some great volleys). A few shredders were going off, but mostly we just kicked a little, and then took a stroll, and then, the main part of GRASS was pretty finished... Nick, Mike, Ryan, Paul, Paul, and a bunch of my friends from Rochester all went to a park downtown and kicked some more, and I demo'd for a bunch of very young kids who LOVED footbag. they thought it was great. I bought 2 classic Carol bags (2002) and a classic Lonn (2002) from Ryan Thomas for *$55*!!!!! it was amazing!!! I appreciate the purchase so much, because those footbags are going to be used by the Rochester Posse, and we're really to love having them. I've got one of the Carols with me now, and I'm squishing it... So nice, I'll post pics later.
GRASS was ridiculous. I hope others will post their thoughts in this thread or in the tournament thread. It was such a blessing and a privelege to host all my friends to do the thing I love the most in my hometown. Big big big big props go to Aric for being the point person for most of this tournament. He put the judging together, arranged things with the jugglers, offered hosting, and basically did all the crap work / organizing while the tournament was going on, instead of being out and having fun. Although, I'm pretty sure he had a good time.

Nice write up Matt, now that I have some free time, I can finally throw my experiences in here.
Friday
I was full of energy and excitement all day long. 2PM - Photo shoot with my friend Dan, involving footbag and a cool camera with longer exposure film. This was fun, I got to play footbag in front of a camera. It was extremely hot in there but a cool experience, had to redo it today (monday) in a different room, but the first set of pics came out really cool. He is doing some extra prints for me and I'll post them later when I get them. Pat Thomsen gives me a call around 4, not long after the photo shoot, and we mess around in my apartment for a lil while, while I was cooking some pasta. Hit some new stuff and got really really pumped. I was trying to take it easy, but it just never works, the more i play the more i want to try and the harder i have to play to hit those tricks. Get a message from Matt, Jorden Moir is in the house and is ready to, so we shoot over to Clark and start setting up. We kick all night pretty much (I'll highlight my new stuff at the end), seen Jorden hit all sorts of cool stuff, you know hes Jorden and he hits all sorts of crazy stuff. Nick Laroche was also in our circle hitting lots of crazy stuff, he has an incredibly smooth style and probably the best looking atomic sets I have seen. Got to play with Ryan Thomas, he is still amazing despite not playing very much, lots of style and lots of big stuff (JUGHANDLE!!!). Party was chill, lots of people just hanging out watching shred, talked with Nick for a long time (really cool guy). Kolo from montreal.... what can i say crazy guy and fun to be around.
Saturday
DID NOT SLEEP AT ALL FRIDAY NIGHT, so yah i was really tired, but Danner (RFA member who lives in the same complex as me) came over and cooked pancakes for me, kolo, himself, Josh Gayhart, Meaghan, and Nate, which was really cool and helpful for me (Kolo didnt know what pancakes were ). That boosted my spirits for the day, and then we all headed back to Clark at 10 and I started setting up our table. I had to kind of oversee the table all day so i missed a lot of the outdoor shred, but it was fun answering all the jugglers questions (got lots of interested people coming and asking questions). Got to shred with Gordon, Jorden, Nick, and other. Gordon is still really amazing, he can throw lots of hard tricks and make them look so easy, great style!
Competition time, OH STRESS HOW I HATE THEE. So yah running an event is fun, getting people to compete, competing yourself, setting everything up, collecting money, figuring out prizes, finding judges, announcing, findind music for people, calming matt down, finding a good spot, letting the jugglers know, getting shredders inside..... Yah that was hell! But with some help, patience, and some small delays I got threw it. HUGE props and thanks to pete for helping out, he judged, took care of intros, and just helped out getting the competitions started. Thanks also to Mike and Ryan for judging (this will be worked out well in advance next year). All the competitors did a very nice job performing for the audience, Nathan P. did really good! The digges bros, had amazing routines, and Paul T (RFA member) represented us well with 3rd in routines. I did pretty bad, but got props for my performance. Under the circumstances (stress from the comps, lack of sleep, and sore from the day before) I'm not too disappointed in myself and I learned A LOT. 2 minutes is a very long time, and 30 seconds goes extremely fast!!! I know now that I have to restructure my routines and just start out slower and ease into things. Would have helped if i had planned out more of my routine too . More shred outside and then off to the after party.
Good times watching more videos... and that crazy guy Eric, man he was insane!!!! Got to talk with Pete and all my awesome footbag family members. Then it was time for figuring out results, it was sooooooo close between Jon and Jorden for shred 30...!!!! Got some well needed props form everyone for the event. Felt really good to get positive feedback... so much has gone absolutely wrong for me lately it felt really good to finally have something go right.
Sunday
BLUR, got up late, cooked eggs and toast for my guests. That was fun, I like cooking for people (recent discovery)! Day was over before it started, got to film Jorden and Gordon for a while, definitely need to buy a cam corder, I really like filming. Bought a yo-yo handed out prizes, everyone said their good byes and it was all over. Went back to my apartment and slept for 4 hours after cleaning up a bit. 365 Days till the next GRASS.
THANK YOU EVERYONE, for coming and supporting the event. You made GRASS a success, and next year I promise to make it bigger and better, with more and better prizes, better organization, and less mistakes.
