Well, clip set DLO BS. I can't skool really hard those ripwalks or any other stepping stuff because my ankle is still a bit sore. That DLO I hit before.ana_ali wrote:Have you hit anything out of stepping set already?
Wait a minute, did you say standing on the outsole of the foot? I've heard that that's what breaks the ankles. They say it first feels like the ankle stretches like rubber but later you find out that your ankles are shit.SandWraith wrote:I sprained my ankle around when you did (4/1Cool, and only started hacking again on 4/28. It totally blows cause your clippers with that foot are horrible, and everything that involves a clipper sucks too. If you haven't started already, I'd suggest working hardcore on getting your ankle flexibility back. Like, stand with the outside surface of that foot on the ground and try to stretch it.
Anyways, sprained ankles suck.
My juggling record with three bags is right now 111 throws.

No, not like standing on them, just putting light pressure on them. If you have Trick of the Trade 1, Kenny Shults shows that as an exercise. Sorta like this but with only one foot: http://www.personalbest.ca/Exercises/im ... 20walk.jpg
I'm pretty sure it's not bad for you, because it doesn't do anything except stretch the associated ligaments, giving you back your flexibility. Still, if you have qualms, I guess just don't do it
You might try just making circles with your ankle in mid-air though, which accomplishes the same thing somewhat less aggressively.

Holy crap. My ankle is still a bit stiffy so I can hardly do clippers and osii are no-can-do at the moment.
But yesterday, I hit a 36 contact tiltless run using only toes. And that's much for me, who has been hitting around ten contact runs earlier. Also I found out that the average number of contacts in my runs is right now about 17-20.
A Felixbag really makes the difference.
EDIT: Eric Windsor once challenged me to hit 50 contacts tiltless and that time I thought it was absurd. Right now it seems even possible.

Well yeah, once again I have digged this up from the second page, just for your joy.
I'm waiting that my Lavers arrive, they are on their way. 300s are a bit too small, I have blisters at the sides of my big toes. They sometimes hurt too much to play but I've had a couple of pretty good sessions lately.
I'm planning to start shredding incredibly hard ASAP = as soon as I get Lavers.
I was in Estonia last month and I was supposed to have a little shred session or at least a meeting with Ilja, but I messed it all up 'cause I got a bit confused about our final destination (it was Kolga as I first thought, not Kolga-Jaani (the distance between those places are about 100 km or so)).
But he'll spare a bag for me and I'll get it at the Worlds.
My summer job is at home. Dad's a farmer and this week we've been doing drains to a field. Anyways, it's not the main point. Dad is a bit unhappy about the thing that I'd spend the Worlds week in Helsinki. Usually a week wouldn't mean anything but this July I'll spend first three weeks in Germany, which means that I could be working only one week in July.
This then means that I've got to arrange it somehow, like I'd then work more in August. I don't know yet. If I can't compete (=spend all week there) I'm sure that I can at least come to see the finals at weekend.
My parents have always been so supportive when the footbag is the case.
By the way, I hit my first Ripwalk ever on Tuesday (there were my granparents' cat and one hare witnessing it
). But unfortunately only one side.
I was s'posed to skool the other side yesterday but my toes hurt like hell when I tried to put the shoes on. Maybe today then.

I understand your dad's point of view, since he is your employer. But tell him it's ***World Footbag Championships*** you're talking about.
You know what. Instead of telling your folks it's Worlds, ask them to go to the big finals on saturday with you. I bet they have never been to a Worlds finals.
Like a wise man told me 2 weeks ago: "You have to go to Worlds to truly understand what footbag is about". I know that sounds like something a Star Wars character would say, but actually it was a former World footbag champion.
See you ALL at Worlds,

Is there any insurances for people who get injured easily? I'd like to know cause I'd take one immediately if you'd ask me right now.
List of my injuries at the moment:
- possible inflammation in left big toe's side (I ripped a blister off)
- I kicked my left little toe to our kitchen table yesterday --> some difficulties with walking, that's all
- on Wednesday I kicked right foot to our rocking-chair in our living room --> bruise
- I've probably kicked my left big toe to something because the nail has been partly black for a few weeks now. I don't know when or how this happened
- scars in calves, already healing; I think I got them when I was trying to take a soccer ball from a rose bush
- bruises in my knees; I've accidentally been hitting them with a shovel at work
- luckily my right ankle is already fine; I sprained it last month pretty badly when I was doing some tricks with a small soccer ball and accidentally stepped on it.

Oops, I have no clue what I've been thinking.mohkale wrote:Are you sure about the date you've got up there?
Yes they know it, dad just wonders that I've never been in a competition before and the first one would be nothing less than World Championships.mohkale wrote:I understand your dad's point of view, since he is your employer. But tell him it's ***World Footbag Championships*** you're talking about.
He was himself competiting in cross-country skiing back in the 80s. Maybe I'll have to convince him that intermediate is for people who are starting to compete, though it would be intermediate in WC (=world championships).
I don't think that they'd come there. We live near Tampere and I have two younger siblings (plus an older sister), so it isn't very easy to arrange these trips. Though I can always ask.mohkale wrote:You know what. Instead of telling your folks it's Worlds, ask them to go to the big finals on saturday with you. I bet they have never been to a Worlds finals.
I'll be there, I already have a place to stay for that week (relatives in Espoo). If I can't stay the whole week (=compete) I'll (like I said) be there during the finals.mohkale wrote:See you ALL at Worlds,

Ugh.
Still not playing but I think the toe's recovering. It still looks pretty bad but at least it doesn't hurt anymore. I think if there'll be no miracle recovery I'll be shredding again when I get Lavers (still on their way).
I should really learn DATWs. I can't do them. Knowing how to do them would definately help me with other double dexes. I've never done any double dexes without planting the foot, i.e. I've hit Magellan BS many times but with a plant.
----------------
The "Sock topic" made me wonder these things really deep.
Almost everyone - including me - uses ankle socks, but I don't really get it why they are so good. I know that they are good quality (usually) because they most often are sport socks. And they are also thin.
They look better with shorts and shoes than regular socks. Is it all fashion?
----------------
I should drag myself to buy a few postcards. I'm about to send them to Bjoern and Byrin, I hope that one first class stamp is enough.
----------------
Sometimes I feel a little tempted to play footbag net.
I mean, I've been kicking with a small football with my brother, trying to keep it in the air. It's quite fun I have to admit. And my running shoes (Adidas Supernova Cushion) seem to be OK for playing net. We may have an old badminton net somewhere, so all I'd need would be a net bag. My friends would maybe be more interested to net than freestyle, so I could probably get at least someone to play with.
I'm not going to leave freestyle: I just think that at least trying net would be fun.
Are the net bags sold by Finnish Footbag Association worth buying? The Pro32 and Pro32s freestyle bags lose 100-0 to the real pro bags like the ones made by Felix, so is the "level difference" so big with FFA Pro Net Footbag and the "pro net bags"?

Yay! Postcard from Finland!!
I hope you take care of yourself Lauri, you sound as though you are as clumsy as me! Last nite when walking out of the bathroom I took the corner too fast and rammed my shoulder right into the doorway. It somewhat hurt

I dropped the postcard (with a stamp) to the letter box, but it won't be emptied before Monday and I have no idea how long it's gonna take after that to get to Canada.
And yes, I think I'm a bit clumsy (today I hurt my back a little when I was jumping on a trampoline).
...but I hit my first DATWs!!! Barefeet though, I won't shred with shoes until my toe gets better. DATW! Oh yes.

Damn it. I'll probably go to shred tomorrow with shoes though my toe still looks pretty wild.
I just _need_ to get to "execute" that other Ripwalk! ...and also get them better with the other side too*.
Yesterday evening I skooled nothing but DATWs (i-o) for 25 minutes or so*. I've got them quite ok now, I've hit them both sides many times but still the percentage of sealed tricks is too low.
*I've found a "new" way to skool tricks. At least it works better for me than the method I was using before. OK, this is what I do:
I try to hit again and again with only the other side, for example for DATWs I took 30 tries in a row (first with the "flipside", I want to get rid of it) and then switch the side. Simple.
Before I just took about 5 times in a row when I skooled tricks and it really didn't pay off. I'll try this method tomorrow with Ripwalks, and who knows if it'd work for Whirls and Torques aswell!
(Maybe 30 Whirls are a bit too much for knees and 30 Torques in a row are rough for back and abs, so I'll pro'lly have less tries
)
---
Today I decided that now on I'll run about 6-8 km three times a week. Plus the shred sessions. It's not that bad, because I run in forest paths and it isn't so tough for knees and ankles.
---
Too bad, I don't think that we have a badminton (=footbag net) net. We usually play quite much badminton with my sister (without a net), so I hope that dad'll buy a net set. And once again: are the FFA net bags worth buying?
My dad isn't really as bad as my posts may make him sound like. I had troubles with trying to get Lavers (which by the way are _still_ on their way) because he doesn't want to pay anything that comes from abroad with his credit card. Luckily there's a guy in Finland who deals them for people who don't own a credit card. Dad promised to pay them.
---
Like I've already mentioned, I'll be in Germany for three weeks next month, the departure is the first day if I remember it correctly. I'm really looking forward to it cause I've studied German language for five years or so, and I want to learn how to _speak_ it too. The town, Goslar, is in Mid-Germany, about 100 km south from Hannover and near the old border of BRD and DDR (in the West side though). I don't think that there'll be any footbag players yet, at least not serious ones, but I'll see what can I do for changing it.
Oh, and I sent two more postcards: to Erik and Oliver to Singapore.

Oh sorry, Zach, I didn't remember that you had posted here too.
Yey! Finnish players can pay their registeration without a credit card. Oh yes.
I came up with a "tiny" problem today when I was thinking about...uhm...things. How can I afford to pay the next month? I've got precisely 15€ cash in my wallet and about 50€ in my account. Luckily I've got a 60€ scholarship/award for success at school plus another 60 euros for being the best at our school's math contest (which was nearly a joke - I got a bit over the half of the maximum points and still won it. Whatever, I got the money...
). So that's 120€ if I got it right.
And I've been working every weekday after the school ended and some before too. Plus there's one thing that gives me more income: we have six family members and a quite big house. We have arranged the cleaning so that the three oldest childs do it together and share the money (25€ every week for the whole house). I get about 10€ a week and my parents owe me a bit.
But still, I can't really expect that my parents'll pay all this. The flights and train tickets cost pretty much. Which means that I get less money but they pay the tickets (I think). And my dad promised to pay the Lavers like I said.
Then are the Worlds: IF I register, it'll cost me 20€ (for amateur) + 10/20€ for the IFPA membership + 5€ for the intermediate singles freestyle = 35/45€. I've got to take a train to Helsinki too, altogether 25€. And I'm supposed to get an ILJAbag there too (23€).
If I won't eat anything there except with my uncle's family, the Worlds'll cost me 83 or 93€.
This leaves me with very few options: I'll live very asketic (sp?) life in Germany or/and won't buy that bag or/and won't compete
. If I can't arrange it in any other ways, I may have to leave the competiting and not participate to a freestyle contest before the Finnish Footbag Championships (or the Open). I have to negotiate with my parents, especially with my dad. I really wish that I can make it to the Worlds. Once again: I'll be there to see the finals (and probably register to a member of IFPA and buy that bag).
*sigh*
---
I had something more to say but I can't remember it now.
...nah, I don't come up with it right now so probably it wasn't that important after all. I'll go to see if we have a badminton net set somewhere... (I may have to look for it from the basement which has also been the "home base" of the legendary table tennis club called SPS (Salmin Pingis-Seura = Salmi Ping Pong Club). The members were my dad and his friends - the poster in the door is still there after 30 years!:D
I'm continuing the family tradition, not with table tennis but with footbag: my club is called Salmi FTBG.)
And Salmi is our home village in the municipality of Mouhijärvi, which is in the province of Pirkanmaa, which is in the province of Länsi-Suomi (West Finland), which is in the Republic of Finland.
