Best weekend...
Fantastic weekend...
My weekend started on Thursday at around 5:00pm when I picked up Lon from the bus station in town and we started on our way to LA.
The drive down was so much fun. We drove through a small rainstorm and afterwards Lon spotted a slight chuck of rainbow in front of us in the sky. Soon it became a whole huge rainbow, the biggest I had ever seen. The placement was great, because for a long time it looked like the very bottom of one side was at the same place on the horizon as where the road was, so it looked like we were driving straight to the end of the rainbow. (Good omen, huh?) As we drove closer, we saw where both ends of the rainbow looked like they were hitting the ground, one on each side of us. Before we went under the rainbow, there was a small chunk of a mirror image of it, so a reverse rainbow, which I had never seen before. Behind us the sun started setting over the mountains. The bright red make it look like one of the mountains was a volcano erupting. The sun went down directly between two peaks, it was awesome. I drove most of the way there, and Lon drove some.
When we arrived at 11:30pm, or so, Sam and Luis (not pronounced like Lewis
) Monhollon were at Sam's place and we all crashed.
Friday was the day pretty much everyone arrived. Brad Nelson and Eric Reile were picked up at the airport by Bryan and they went to the beach for a really awesome sounding session with Chad, and others -not sure who, check other people’s blogs for more on that. I hear that Brad was busting out with some amazing stuff too, so keep an eye out for that. While they did that, Sam, Chris and I went on an awesome adventure, which I think was just about as fun as any session could be. More on that in three months, maybe. Friday night we all hung out in Sam’s room. Before I left for my trip I made a ton of Rice Krispies Treats for people (Aaron and Richie demolished a pile of them in two minutes flat) and vegan bread for Mike, which was the first time I had tried baking bread. Sorry, after trying it I realized it could have probably been baked a little longer. Chris, Brad, Aaron, and Bryan and I played hack in the lights in front of some building where Chris stumbled across an exploding water container. Then the five of us went to Chris’ house where we hung out with his brother his friends. Aaron made some good friends that night. Aaron went to Byan’s house and Brad and I stayed at Chris’.
By the time Brad went to bed, he had been up for something like 26 hours. I wasn’t any help being as talkative as I am. Then, on four hours of sleep, we met everyone at Sam’s place again. We left for the filming/shred site. Let’s see if I can remember everyone who was there that day: Mike (Sam’s friend who has been playing for 6(?) months, a.k.a. Mic Check), Eric (Holm? I don’t know anything about him), Brad N., Sam C., Eric R., Bryan F., Chris P., Jeremy Mirken and Amelia Butler-Nalin, (who surprised us by driving up after telling us that they wouldn’t be able to make it), Ann Dios (Sam’s g/f), Ted Anderson, Mike Hansen, Richie Abshire (who I hadn’t met before and it was very fun to hang out with him), Chad, Lon, Aaron Orton, Loren Baum, Luis Monhollon, Justin Council. Did I miss anyone? I can’t tell anything about it, because we were all sworn to secrecy. But this site was AMAZING. Actually, this and the other site on this trip were both pretty breathtaking. I didn’t play much footbag on Friday. The little I did was so unpleasant. I was honestly not having any fun, which is the worst feeling. I think it’s because I haven’t schooled in a while, and I don’t play much right now. yes, that will change. I was filming a long time and didn’t really play on Saturday, I just warmed up. But everyone who were there was playing really well from what I saw and heard. I caught one of Lon’s huge string, between 60 an 70 if I remember correctly (maybe I do, maybe I don’t.) His knee seemed SO much better than it was at CSS6, so he seemed to be having more fun and able to play better for longer.
Saturday night we all hung out at Sam’s place. A few people drank, but this was the first real time over the weekend, and still, most people were sober at that time. It was a really relaxed feeling place event partly because of that, I think. Oooh, but I did witness one of Chris' infamous Jager chugs... sick. Some people started playing outside of Sam’s room. 4-square was so much fun. Playing against these players rocked. While just Chad, Chris, Loren and I were playing (I think), one person used his shirt to bounce the bag off of the shirt by lifting the front of the shirt up slightly. Then everyone was doing it. Then… it was a rule that that’s all you could use. We got rid of that rule in a few rounds, but it was really fun for a short while. Oh, and Sam was playing at one point, and I don’t remember who else. But when he lifted his shirt up to hit the bag, there was a loud ripping sound and both sides of his shirt were ripped half way up to his armpits. Oh man, we couldn’t stop laughing for like 5 minutes. And at a different point, the rule was shoeless. DANG, was Chad good shoeless. Anyway, with regular rules, I think Chad won the first game, and I won the second against Chad, Chris, Loren, Reile, and Lon, though the last two came in later in the game. I can never tell if I can hold my own at 4-square or if I get points because people are going easy on me because I’m a girl or at a lower level than they are and they’re just attacking other people.
There was a ton of awesome back cracking done one of the nights. With Lon, Sam, and Loren, the whole room was set if anyone needed their back spruced up.
I think everyone slept at the same place on Sat. as they did Friday night. I really regret not taking Ted up on his offer to stay at his cabin.
But hanging out with Chris and Brad was fun. Brad was the talkative one this time. (Shut up, Rick.) After seeing the sun come up, then deciding to get an hour of sleep, we met with everyone else met back at Sam’s place. We went one place for filming, which went GREAT. Then around 1:30, a handful of people went to do some more filming while the rest of us kicked at a park. The weather perfect. Amelia and I played for a while, and then we joined the circle with Dat, Jeremy, Loren, Luis. I don’t remember who, if anyone, else was playing at that point. Brad was there but had to leave pretty soon after we got there. Dat left, and then later Jeremy and Amelia left for their drive back home to AZ. Loren and Luis had me doing drills (which were fun to do) the whole time, a good thing. Luis did one run that was approx 57 contacts, and had another which was at least 40, but I started counting after the start of the run. Luis, Loren and I played pretty much the whole time until the rest of the crew was done filming and came over to shred. Bryan, Chris, Lon, Loren, Luis, Sam and I all played, and it was so much fun. Reile didn’t play. Sam was doing double ducks which were so sweet to see in person. I hit a ducking clipper for the first time on the first try. I had tried doing ducking clippers before but hadn’t ever gotten really close. I have no idea if it was at all close to clean, probably not. I think I'm one of the few people who didn't get sunburned at all over the whole weekend. But my luck with that was kind of evened out by the fact that for the WHOLE day Saturday I had sunscreen in one of my eyes, and it was killing me.
I drove some, then Lon drove most of the rest of the way home. We got back at 2:30am or so, and we got up at 6am to take him to the bus station. The weekend was so fun. Lon and I were talking about it, and he and I both agree that it was a great atmosphere because people got the experience of hanging out with almost everyone on an individual basis as well as hanging out with large groups. I got to know almost everyone much better than I had known them before, and I got to hang out and know new (to me) people pretty well too. I even got a free sleeping bag because someone left it in my trunk and I forgot to take it into Sam's on Sunday night when I saw it. After I got home, I was so high on the fact that nothing bad happened to me this trip. Everyone was a little disappointed that Brian from L.V. couldn’t make it because of complications. But there was NOTHING bad the WHOLE time I was there. I’m not going to come down from this feeling for a long, long time.
I am a very luck person.

Thanks for the sleeping bag.Amelia: Naw, it's still not something I'm serious about, it's just fun to try. But I did try stepping from the other side some. I had been kind of scared of it because of the idea of putting the left foot down so fast from the clipper in that direction. I've tried stepping from the weak side since the injury, and nothing bad happened. And I know it's the same as clipper except faster, but I was scared of doing anything I was not confident in. But I thought about it and tried and nothing bad happened. I just couldn't do anything out of it. That's cool that you guys were talking about ducking clippers. I had tried it before but never got it. And I didn't remember sealing it and thought maybe I didn't, but Lon told me that I caught it in my hand.
I'm going to play a while tomorrow drilling atw and mirage as long as I can stand.

Very nice rundown of the event! It's alot of fun reading about it, but alot more fun to live it Yeah, what the hell was with that exploding water container?? Haha. People must be so confused as they read that. Now I have to STUDY, and I can't even think straight. We gotta have another event like that, and EVERYONE should come!! It's late, so I can't put my own thoughts about the event, but all I can say is that it was the best event i've been to thus far. Long Live California! Hope to see you soon.

Thanks Chris! And thanks for reading my blog. It was SO fun getting to hang out with you the whole weekend. Yeah, even though Sam says he isn't going to make anymore movies, it would be so great to have a really big jam in LA sometime. I would be there for sure. I really think I had more solid fun at this event than any other I've been to. There was something about it that can't be reproduced.
Anyway, I'm sure I'll see you guys within the next 3 months. And you guys should think about a trip up North at some point over the summer.

This chicks off the hook guys, just wait and see how good she gets injury free. I swear, I've never seen anyone do as many atws without dropping (both sides, both ways, repeat)

I did know about it actually. But if you've visited it, you'll know that there was a reason I didn't talk about the site it here. (footbag.com link, "video of the day" from 2002, etc.) When I started kicking with A.J. he told me who is in charge of the site. Thanks.Why would he let me be redo his entire website? From what I hear, the net scene in town used to be great, but it is now basically dead. I sometimes get a random group e-mail from someone saying that they'd like all the net people to come out on a specific day for a game. But then no one shows up on that day. I know, because I have showed up every time I've been in town and someone said they were going to play net. So the guy in charge said that the thing is that he doesn't have time to help with anything like designing it, which I think that's totally fair. Since I have NO idea how to do ANYTHING website related (except how to visit them,
) I asked one of my friends who knows how to do this stuff to help me. He agreed to volunteer his time. He is in the process of fixin' up the site in his spare time.Yes, I know there's a link to footbag.com. No, it will not be there after the "cleanup." I'll post here when it's all done.
