Time Travel

Post by carl winslow »

People at MIT are holding a time travelers event, the point is that they want lots of people to attend and publicize the event so future time travelers can find out that the event occured, and go back in time to attend it. This way people at the event will see time travelers pop in.

My Dad reads Time Travel novels often.
I came up with the theory that to time travel you would need to be in a black hole to reach absolute zero and then somehow leave the black hole and you would then be in the future with no time having elapsed on your own molecules. (Impossible for obvious black hole reasons)

But Traveling back in time is impossible so far.

I have thought about time travel extensively as well. Probably not as extensively as some. I think it is possible through sheer will power.

I have to say I personally don't think time travel is possible, but I love to think about some of those crazy paradoxes that would arise if it WERE/is possible. Like the famous grandfather paradox, where you go back in time and kill your grandfather, but then you wouldn't have been born so you couldn't kill him, and then he'd be alive so you would be able to be born and go back and kill him, but then.... And to sum it all up, the universe would explode in a fiery fire with lots of flames and fire and it would just kinda suck in general. That stuff is sweet. woot.

You get a bit more respect for mentioning that Futurama episode. I laughed so hard when I saw that, luckily I had it on DVD so I just rewatched it a couple times and then with Bob. I love how he becomes graceful and heroic once he reaches that certain zen like coffee drinking status.

If you want to travel back into time, all you need to do is travel faster than the speed of light! It's that easy! Then when that is accomplished, all you need to do is watch as you speed past the already existing light, replaying what was once reality into a backward-playing movie :)

I just finished reading a book by Stephen Fry called 'Making History'.

Very good read that dabbles with some basic time travel philosophy.

The 'Back to the Future' trillogy really got me interested in time travel theory. I think it's probable (traveling back in time, that is), though not yet possible.

Will post more when I've hung my washing out... in..... THE FUTURE!

But it is possible to change the past: by editing your posts!
Right now I'm going to write a message here, and I'm going to edit in the future!

EDIT: I already removed it.
Time travelling has been done - thanks to time zones people can go back to yesterday.

EDIT2: I got the point.

Actually to time travel you don't need to travel faster than the speed of light. You just need to travel - the more you're traveling the more you'll notice the difference. You have to be going pretty damn fast to notice any difference. If we could travel at 99% of the speed of light we could travel to distant planets much quicker than it would take if you were watching - so maybe in a life time for the pilot but the normal time for the observer. So saying that we can't travel to distant plantets because even if we travelled at light speed it would take thousands/millions of years isn't really true. Although outside of the ship travelling really fast it would take thousands or millions of years.

I heard some guy who was in space for a year or something went back in time for 1/2 second. Or something like that.

EDIT: *in the future...

That was me!!! You couldn't have heard about it, it hasn't happened yet. It was really 50 years not .5 seconds. Just wait another couple decades and you'll here about me doing this exact same feat again!!!

Godel had some real interesting ideas about the nature of time. He had a model of the universe where it was possible for time to be reversed... kinda complicated stuff, but interesting.

It's actually really easy to time travel. I'm doing it right now. Only you can only go to the future (not the past) and it is really really really slow!

Im time traveling , all yuo need to do , theres 6 basic steps

1. go put on somthing very aurodynamic , like boxers

2.find a good sloped down runway with a cliff at the end

3.put on a watch with a quartz crystal inside

4.move your arms really fast

5.bob your head

6.run like hell off the cliff

all that should bring you into another dimension ( where im at right now) and its just like earth but instead we have a big crystal ball and can controll people and time
