Golf at Footjam
I heard that the golf tournement would be only teams.. random? by country? by affinity?. How is it going to happen? Are every player of the team doing the whole parcour, or is going to be one shot per player? Here in france, we are big fans of golf and would realy appreciate to know more about the rules, if of course busy organizers have the time for it.
hey fredski!
as everything, a lot of the golf will depend on the weather. should the weather be nice there will be team golf all over the city (so you get to see a little of beautifull zurich). every team member will have to play every hole. but in the end all kicks are added up to give a total. plus there will be bonusses for certain things.
if the teams can form themselves or if we randomly or semi randomly mix the teams together will be decided on sunday when we hold a golf meeting. it would be cool to have randomly mixed teams so that you get to spend the day and get to know new people. if however most players are against this and would rather make their own teams we will do it like that.
below is something i have written up that explains the rules of the golfjam. it's only tentative so far, so don't quote me on it. but check it out and if you or anyone else has suggestions or comments feel free to do so.
cu soon!

GolfJam05: Golftown Switzerland
Welcome to the Golf Tournament at the FootJam05!
The Golfcourse will take you to various locations around the beautiful city of Zürich.
Rules:
Teams
The Golfjam is played in teams of five. Each team receives a scoring card that is maintained (truthfully) by one member of the team. All kicks and extra points of the whole team are summed up for a team total. The team with the lowest total score wins!
Holes
There are 5 holes total. Each team starts off at a hole and time of their choice and has to complete the circuit before dinner time at 18.00.
Holes start and end according to the description on the back of the scorecards.
Questions
At each hole the team has to find the answer to one of the questions asked on the back of the scorecard. Each question that is answered correctly is awarded by a 10 point reduction of the kick total.
Time
All teams must register their starting time at the registration desk, before they start their circuit and note the starting time on their scorecard. All teams must report back to the registration desk once they have completed their circuit and register the time.
All teams must have reported back to the registration before dinnertime at 18.00. Competition closes at this time and all teams who have not completed their circuit get a 10 kick penalty for each hole and player that has not been completed.
All teams who fail to report back to registration before 18.00 are disqualified from competition.
The fastest team is awarded a 15 kick deduction of their team total, the second team 10, the third team 5.
Behavior
Please beware of innocent bystanders. Behave civilly and respect humans, animals, property and nature on your tour through the city
Transportation
You have been supplied with 3 day public transportation passes courtesy of the cities cultural department. This is valid for all of Zürichs public transportation (including ferry shuttles!).
The teams are expected to find their way to and from the golf sites independently. You have been supplied with a street and a public transportation map that will help you find your way. trams and busses run at regular intervals, the ferry from “Zürichhorn/Casino” to “Wollishofen” runs at thirty past every hour, from “Wollishofen” to “Zürichhorn/Casino” always one minute before the full hour.
If you get lost or run into trouble you can call one of the golf directors for assistance.
Documentation
Each team is supplied with a Fuji Quicksnap camera to document their way around town and can be used at their discretion. All cameras must be returned to the registration desk before 18.00. The pictures will be developed and published online at www.footbag.ch.
Basic Golf Rules
Kicking the Bag: the bag must always be tossed by hand and kicked. The bag must have left the hand before touching the foot, knee or head and must fly upward after the kick.
Stance: the supporting foot must remain behind the tee off or behind the spot where the footbag came to rest after the last kick. A player is not allowed to touch any part of the ground behind the kickoff spot until the bag has come to rest again.
Order of play: the first tee starts in the order that the players are featured on the scorecard. At any other tee off, the player with the lowest number of total kicks starts. When playing a hole, always the bag farthest from the whole is played first.
Obstructions: if the footbag lands in a place where it cannot be played further, the new kick off is moved back to a playable spot in a direct line to the original tee off and a one kick penalty is awarded.
Changing Bags: the bag may be changed at any time in between kicks
Interference: if a player from the own team or any other team knowingly interferes with a kick or the flight of the bag, a 5 kick penalty is awarded to this team. Interference from innocent bystanders must be tolerated and the game continues from where the bystander drops the bag.

Hi Jan, I think It is a great program to read but definately not taking the best arguments of mixing fun golfing with a real competition of a real sport. I love golf for the fun of it but recognize it as a real precision sport. The competition is open to everyone as it should be but somehow not alowing us to see a final with best players. But we should find a score that will isolate aroud ten players . All players under this score qualify.. Play a final round with them on all holes. Than you have a team rank and an individual rank of best players. On five holes, this number will be hard to find. If you guys can figure 4 more holes, there will be a 9 holes and the number to qualify hopefully, will come out for itself. Myself, pierre, I hopefully think jakob and max are ready to help this golf competition going straight if you need.
I think it sounds great! Jan is truly the master of organisation.
Free public transportation tickets, free photo cameras? This is going to
be fun.

hey fred,
i understand your concerns. but with the golf course we wanted to do something that would be fun for everyone and would take everybody around town (like a sight seeing trip).
how does this sound: we do the 5 hole course in teams. whoever wants to can play 4 additional holes after dinner at the event site. then we say the best 5-10 individual players qualify for a final round and do the whole circuit again on monday after breakfast (without time limitations and without the questions).
