Markus, you gotta make it to Zürich, we need you man !
Why is Philip not comming, is it money or car problems,
or both ? Please make ít happen, this event will be one
of the most interesting events this year !
I help you to steal an old army tank, if thats what it takes :P

And now to something completly different :

Today i hit a new 3-3-3, it was hard to get, took at least 15 tries
and i loved the feel of it : symp mir>pixie mir>ducking mir :)

Onesided, yes but is that always a bad thing ? I think not, unless
you're not restriceted to only one side.
But if a certain link feels hard/stylish/well composed or whatever,
then i go for it .

Combos like that wouldnt be wise to be used in a sick 3 contest
of any sort, but starting of a run a little onesided, sorta to test
what kinds of diferent ish one can do only with one side, seems
interesting.

I shall rest up, save my energy for Switzerland, but i think about
footbag all the time, so its hard...

I'm so excited for FootJam, it will be even crazier then Todexon :
-i will meet some of the nice people i saw in Praha again
+ many new ones
-never been to Zürich before
-this years line up = dreamtastic
-3 day of hardcore footbag action
-swiss chocolate

which leads us straight to the beginning ; MIKE and PHILIP, you guys

We five fit in but I'm not sure about the baggage... Maybe we have to place some sleeping bags on our laps, but it will work. I changed the winter tires with the summer tires yesterday. And I'm going to fill the tank up tomorrow. So there will be no delay when we want to start. And please let us start as early as possible! Right after your work Bjoern.
Mike it's really cool that your are gonna make it too! When will you arrive?

here:

Footjam 2005 13-16. May 2005
------------------------------------

FRIDAY

The Munich Crew (Max, Bea, Daryl, Max's girlfriend Svenja) arrived in Zürich in the early
evening hours. Mike from Landshut came by train, and we soon hooked up with him. The first
people we saw when we arrived at the Rote Fabrik were Ellis Piltz, Kenny Shults, Eric Wulff,
Carol Wedemeyer and Caro Bourgoin. What a first impression..

At the lake-site, we met the Czechs, Ali, Jason V., Andrew Grant and Ian Pritchard, who, to
my surprise, actually neither had a beard nor held a gun at his head (some might remember his
former avatar..) ;) The Danes were already there as well. (Tobias, Rasmus, Lise and dang, I
forgot his name)

Ian, Mike and Daryl were the first to shred it up, and Ian hit some mad shit. He got close to/hit
(? correct me on this, Ian, in case that you're reading this) Neutron Smasher, Quantum Paradon (?
again, I'm not sure on this)

In the evening we had a big BBQ going, and Klabautermann aka Fleischpeitsche ;)
(Ragga-MC from Berlin, who would have his gig on saturday after the finals) was serving grilled
goodies all night long. I talked a bit with Ellis, who was really nice and down to earth.

Felix shredded a bit in street shoes and full clothing, and easily hit stuff like whirling swirl,
ripsteins and lots of spinning/double spinning stuff.

There was lots of beer floating around everwhere, and apparently some drunk and passed out
Finnish guy burned all his hair off, got a complete hair shave from his friends and passed out
on the lawn.. ;)

SATURDAY

We were all woken up at 8 o'clock in the morning, because we had to leave the place we slept in
until 9. Meanwhile, the Crews from Vienna, Berlin, Paris and all over Switzerland had arrived.
After a good breakfast at the Rote Fabrik the first circles and 4 squares started. My knee hurt
like shit, I don't know why. I could hardly stand on one leg, and I couldn't even kick. Not even
4-Square. Competition started at noon, and some people like Karim, Andrew Grant and Serge from
France had incredible preliminary routines.
There was lots of food and drinks available for free all day, little fruit sticks, coffee, tea,
salads etc. just like last year.

After the preliminary open I talked to Kenny Shults, and he said he really liked the european
scene, there's so many awesome players he's never heard of before. He had troubles with his
right foot, and he also gave me some painkillers for my knee.
Kenny started to shred a bit with the Wolhusen Crew, and hit BIG APPLE SAUCE (we got it on tape,
thanks Mike) and lots of spinning combos. It was great to see him play.

The semi-finals and all the finals took place at the Aktionshalle, in front of about a 1,000
spectators, who payed 20 Swiss Francs to see the Freestyle Finals and the Ragga/Dancehall party
afterwards with Klabautermann and Redemtion Sound. It was such a good vibe, and after Semis there
was a big celebration - 5 years of Footjam, 5 years of Planetfootbag and 25 years of Rote Fabrik.
They had 1,000 chocolate muffins, and 30 of us passed them around through the crowd. Mmh.

The Finals were great, even though some players like Karim, Felix or Verena were a bit unlucky
with their routines. Tina Aeberli won the finals with a great routine with Blurry Whirl midstring
and lots of other good shit, Vasek won with another flawless routine, followed by Reni Zülli,
who had an awesome routine, with lots of choreography and skill. Felix took 3rd, Stefan 4th.
In my opinion, the men's finals were quite a close vote.

Between the finals they had some other cool stuff going - Dennis from Berlin literally rocked
the house with his awesome Yo-Yo routine - he is one of european's best Yo-Yo players and already
played at 5 other footbag tourneys, including Worlds 2003 in Prague. Another man with fast feet
was a Tap Dancer whose name I forgot, but he was pretty cool as well.

I filmed a lot of the circles that went down after the finals, and people like Serge and
Arthur from France, Andrew Grant and Ellis were really rippin' it up. The Finalists didn't
shred at all, they had party in the backstage area.
The party was GREAT. Everybody was so cool, and I had best times with everybody, especially
Dennis, the Yo-Yo Master, who I met for the first time, was so cool.

SUNDAY

After merely 4 hours of sleep we were woken up by Jan again (singing "Footbagspieler sind
intelektuell, intelektuell, intelektuell", and a good breakfast was a good way to start the
day. Some of us were Cupstacking (I think Jakob Wagner brought them with him, and he's pretty
fast already), and at 1 o'clock the golf tournament began. There were 5 holes spread all over
Zurich, and each team was given a map and free transportation passes to find the holes on their
own. On every hole there were 2-3 bonus questions which, when answered correctly, would lower
your total kick score. Our team: Jason Varvaro, Micha from Chemnitz, Dennis Yo-Yo, Schubi and me.
It was great fun to walk/drive trough the city and try to find the holes. We were lazy at the
beginning and chilled at the park for an hour or so, and when we needed to cross the Zurich-Lake
in order to get to the next hole, we and 2 other teams would miss 3 ferries, because all were
full before we could get on it. So we left out hole 3, and went straigt on to the next. One was
around a church, all uphill, with par 8, another was in a park full with people, another one
next to the lake (where Schubi had to get into the ice-cold water to retrieve his driver-bag...
before the French Crew came and told us that we were playing the hole the wrong way, starting
at the end point.. ;) ).

We arrived back at the Silhölzli in time before Dinner. At Dinner time, Felix and Vasek were
shredding together, and there was this big circle around them - everybody was sitting around them,
watching and eating - it was such a cool atmosphere, everybody watching 2 of the worlds best
players trying ridiculous moves like Alpine Janiwalker, Felix tried his Barraging symp Nuclear
set, went for double spinning pdx Blender (not sure if he hit it that weekend though). Vasek's
pet peeve seems to be stepping ducking lately, for he had runs with 8-9 Ripped Warriors in it,
with at least 5 Ripped Warriors back to back. Delicious. It was cool to see both of them hitting
insane combos and seeing Kenny's jaw dropping to the floor.. :)

Later, more 4 square action ensued - and I could play again, because my knee felt much better.
I hit 20+ Osii b2b twice, which is a record for me.

In the evening, we all went back to the Rote Fabrik, where the players party took place. We took
the public bus, and I talked with Kenny Shults about the beginnings of freestyle during the whole
ride, how people took Freestyle when he started out with it, how it evolved and so on. It was really
interesting to get such an insight about Freestyle, and Kenny is such a nice person.

During the players party, I managed to get some more footage of many people, and I can't wait
to look through all the 5 tapes and make the video. Daryl was shredding hard, he was the last
man shredding at that day, only to be the first one the next morning getting into his shorts
and shredding again...
Mike, Daryl, Jakob Mai and me took a taxi to get back to the Silhölzli gym where we slept again.

MONDAY

After some more 5 hours of sleep we had breakfast with Bircher Muesli, lots of bread, jam and
nutella and even more coffee, we had more shred and 4square going, and the net semifinals started.
The Net Finals were incredible, it was raining like shit (actually, it was raining since the
second semi-final, where Kenny and Eric defeated 2 guys from Montpellier, France, whose names
I don't know - I'm still pretty unfamiliar with Net.

In the Finals, Kenny Shults and Eric Wulff played Florian Goetze and Patrick (?) from Germany.
It was top-class, ending something like 11-15, 15-10 and 15-3 for the german team. Even though
it was raining like crazy and both the ground and the bag were totally slippery, both teams
played top-class Net Footbag. I think Eric didn't miss a single spike in the finals.

Then, in the tent, a Big Band started to play, playing some good-mood swing from the 30's + 40's.
There was Barbeque and more beer, and between 5 and 6 in the evening Mike and me went with Jochen
Bauer, who drove as back to munich. The rest of the munich-footbag crew had left before the
finals. Too bad they didn't witness the fitness.

Footjam was easily the best tournament ever. Jan's organisation skills are unmatched, everything
went so tight, there were like 6 different T-Shirts to buy (one of them was for free), there
was food and drinks for free all weekend, everybody got a cool Planetfootbag 1litre drinking
bottle, 1 year IFPA membership, and the best times one can have, for an entry fee of merely
30 Swiss Francs, which is 20 Euros. Big thanks to Jan, his organisation crew, all the people who
were there all weekend just to make us food, to the Rote Fabrik (we're still the only people who
were ever allowed to sleep inside the Rote Fabrik in their 25 year history), and everybody else
who made Footjam 2005 so great.

BTW, Daryl, you could post a message somewhere on the forum about
the remains of your bag - maybe someone took it...

Just watched through the first 2 Tapes..so much good stuff in there...
Daryl, the interview with you on our way to the gas station is outright.
HILARIOUS.

Max, one tape is missing though - the first one with all our routines on it.
The earliest footage I have is shred before Dinner on saturday. Maybe
I find it still though.

I know I should write my Footjam report, but I already have wrote down the stuff I want to remember on a sheet. Anyway Bea, Daryl and I shrded in the cave today. But first we had to wait for Beatrice since I forgot my keys :( And my mother didn't hear neither the doorbell nor the phone :?
But then we played right away. We all were still pumped up from our Footjam experiences :D
Bea hit some nice runs (12-16 contacts). Butterfly > PDX Mirage now seems quite easy for her. She also hit Pdx Mirage > Smear bs and Smear > Magellan. And her ss Butterflies + Infinities become more and more secure. Her game looked so controlled today.
Daryl was in drilling mood, like I was :) That led to 5 new tricks for him!
Clipper > ss Legover bs
Pixie xbd Rake
Flip Blur (several times)
Flip Ripwalk! Yeah
Next time Sidewalk!

I also tried combos and hit some I'm pretty happy with:
Sidewalk > Ripwalk > Sidewalk > Ripwalk > run It's the second time ever I hit that combo and it felt great. Dimwalk > Dlo > Plo (took my several tries, stupid Dimwalk. I really have to drill my Pixies more!!!) Then...Atomsmasher > Atomsmasher it almost felt to easy :P and Atomsmasher > Legbeater > Blur (ok the Blur was anything but controlled, but Ruberman here I come!) And Dimwalk > Blur both sides. After I already cooled down and stretched Daryl asked me about Pdx Double Legover and tata I hit it one one side  My runs were ok, one or two I was happy with. Overall great session!

FOOT JAM 05

Ok, lets try this...how can i sum up all the beauty and intensity
of these sweet days in any convenient way ?

It was very strange to be in my daily environment again,
everthing was kinda dull and muted, i for once kept my excitement
to my self, didnt talk to anybody that can relate to my feelings yet,
just save the foot( food?)jam taste a little longer.

When i browsed modified on my first day back, nobody i know
in person was posting, and i wasnt up to it either.
48 hrs later, a lot my footbags mates (you guys felt like friends
at times, i love to see the future of this ! )wrote their impression
in various pms and blogs and all the important stuff concerning the
sequence of events, the big moves, routines and results and so on,
has already been said.

But when i read your posts, Alex, Bjoern, Charles, Hania, Hunter,
Ian, Jochen, Lise, Max and Verena EVERYTHING comes back to me
in rippling giggles of joy and fullfilment :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Friday was a really difficult day for my perception :D
Bjoern already said, who the first group of players was, that we saw.
Wow. I mean, we all read the footjam flyers and stuff, but when i saw
Kenny, Ellis and the others, i gotta admit, i was thinking : autographs  ( well, i'm 28 now...)
The setting was so perfect ; we were all in a great mood, the
landscape was truly awesome with the park, the big, deep lake
and the glistening mountains in the distant pre evening light.

The holiday feeling is very dear to me ( big up, working class  ),
plus it had that school trip feel, but the subject wasnt history,
it was footbag...screw this, it was both !

Markus and me started to shred pretty soon, with Lise, Jason and Ian.
It was really nice to meet Ian from Australia - he is a very good player
with a well rounded game and a koool choice of moves and one of
the best peeps i've ever met .
My runs werent that great, like on the whole weekend, basically,
but i hit a new link ( driven by Markus hitting it first ) ; pixie clip>dlo !

As light failed and legs grew sore, the lust for food, beer and chats
took over and we all had a mighty fine time grillin and chillin.

I was in such a good mood - all the nice/funny/insane people,
wild skies, water, wind and moutains ( mountains , Gandalf ! ),
sweet beer and shred, not having to work but being on the brink of
having something like the time of your life !
And that was the moment when i had to go over to Ellis P, who was
checking his cam at the lake, to say hi and to thank him and all...
Bjoern, Max, Markus and Ian joined in and we all talked for ages.

Ellis was very accessible and warm hearted, and the circle we had
was full of genuine interest and energy, at the and of our coversation
he said to us : that type of talk i need on my camera, i hope this
happens again ! and it kinda did...

I was awake, drinking and talking with various peeps for a long time,
and when i finally decided to got to "bed", sleeping wasnt easy,
wasted swiss persians hooligans outside, and snorting footbaggers
+ ants inside, on a darn hard floor.

Saturday

Waking up destroyed and nautious, but that underslept grumpiness
subsided after washing and moving over to Rote Fabrik .
I gotta say i was very excited to see all the new players,
that just had arrived, with their tired, gleaming faces,
especially when i spotted Charles and the Paris crew and Hania :D

The day was really long and intense, i'm glad that most of it will
be on tape, so that i dont have to go off, describing all the great
circles and routines, not to mention the great party after
the finals !

Before, betweeen and during  all the routines, there was a lot of
shredding to be done, and i was blown away when i saw Tina Aeberli
shred for the first time - let me say this much - if she keeps on busting
the big tricks and tuff links with that perfect form of hers, and if she
adds a bit of showmanship, she will be world champion soon :P

I played with Viktor and Jakob May, then with French Crew and for
a short time i kicked some bag with the Wollhuseners and Kenny Shultz-
how can i even think of the word "motivation" when the greatest man
in footbag gives you props for string ( 4 what ever reason...lol..) ?

The routines were really interesting to watch and i felt so happy,
when Max and Markus proceeded from intermediate to open :D

After the great finals and all the celebrating, there was a big need
for a lot beer, and i had some good time with Markus and Bjoern,
he captured some of that madness on tape..

Later on, when Bea and me came back from checking out the lake,
sitting down for a chat, Ellis and Charles stopped by to make an
interview with us two.

I really got into it and rambled away, and again i was very much
inspired by Ellis over all amazingness .
I had a nice epiphany at one moment, when i realised that i was
with the three persons who are the live givers to my footbag world :
Bea represents everything good that's comming from my team,
Charles is my favourite bag maker and Flipsider gave me the love
for the technical and philosophical side of freestyle footbag :D

Ian and Hania, Vienna, Munich and Paris crew formed a drunk,
giggling party monster surfing on a huge beer wave, with a mind
full of mischief and a fat joint in his left hand !
Thanks for the great time;
Stefan, Andrew and Serge : i love your game :P

Another highlight was the nice and long conversation i had with
Hania :) you have a really good heart and i had such a good time
finally talking to you about all these different things
I so look forward to see you soon again and hopefully Szymon
will be there too !

Sunday

No golf for me - only four square and SHRED  !!!
i kicked with a lot of people that day, but i was mostly impressed
by Jana ( great style ) and the circle with Pietere, Bea and Tina .

After 3 and a half hours of shred and butter>dlo bs
under my belt, i felt pretty dead and went for shower and
a massage - yes folks, Jan and his crew thought about everything !

Of course i couldnt stop playing, and after some chatting to Carol
and Ian and vain attempts to sleep, i tried some bare feet atomic
sets .
They came along quite well, and after hitting some stuff out of it
bare feet, i grabbed lavers and Hania's bag and i hit :
muted tap and ATOMSMASHER :D :D

The best feeling single trick . period

I was glad that these werent one hit wonders, and was mad lucky
that muted tap and a half decent run were captured on tape .
At the same time, there were kool circles going on :
Lise, Hania, Caro, Rasmus or Max, Alex, Verena, Carol 8O .

Everything got filmed but this :x Yves and Lise :!:

I had the pleasure to play with Carol too and after that i headed
out to the lake.
The spot, where i came to the lake this time, was a little unlucky
aka full of ships, so i goodbyed the swimming plans and walked around
Zürich for a bit.
When i came back, it was already dinner time, and we all had risotto
while Vasek and Felix ripped shit up ...symp whirling swirling blender...
barraging ducking...wait for all the insane footage !

Although i was half dead, sleeping wasnt an option anymore, and around
10 we headed back to Rote Fabrik for players party and shred 30 .
What can i say, i took part in the shred, played with Serge, Jakob
and some swiss guys and saw Viktor hitting blazing mirage 8O

Thanks to Ole, i went up on stage and all nervousness was blown
away, when i heard the drunk cheers of my buddies !
I did quite well at the beginning, then some drops, some tricks and
a lucky finish with ducking clipper in my last second :D
Competing is great and this was properly the most unorthodox
shred 30 ever : Max was being himself (= druuunnk ), Dexter
was dancing, Klabauterman was toasting and Vasek made a new
world record ! And again, wait for the footage and watch out for Ellis !

The rest of the night was insane shred, Jochen, Jakob and me kicked
for another 3+ hrs, i hit all my pixie and ducking moves, blur, datw,
assasin, both dimwalks, all 4 dlo's and my first flipside parkwalk
around 3 am .
On the way home, i felt so good after all these wonderful moments
and Mikes dry humor made laugh like there was no 2morrow :D
Ah, happy fuckin times !!!

Monday's tale is briefly told : nice breakfast, watching footbag net
live for the first time ever, flip side muted tap and a huge wave of
inspiration watching Jana, Bea and Pietere shred !
It was hard to leave, i cant tell ya, but as we say, this was only
the beginning of a beautiful friendship :P
see y'all soon .

A major shout out for your organization skills and the fabolous
line up - you guys let me meet footbag legends, the yougsters
in their prime and all the wonderful footbag players from all over
world !
Jan youre the shiznik, i still cant believe what i got for meager 30 franks,
and to everybody involved, thanks for creating what i will call one of the
greatest and happiest experiences of my life !
