Government surveillance
Government surveillance
I am a relatively new(and sparse) pot user and would be classified as a "light" user. However after some recent searches (fueled by personal curiosity) on the internet my house recieved a call from the PA Narcotics Office. I answered and they asked for my father who has been dead for a year ( they obviously don't know us very well) and said it was a "courtesy call" and that they would call back later. The only other POSSIBLE reason I could see for them calling was the possible misuse of my father's medicine from when he was sick, one of which was morphine. As of yet I have not recieved a call-back, but this topic brought to mind the subject of government surveillance. It gave me quite a scare as far as being watched is concerned and anyone with related stories/opinions/arguments is welcome to reply
PS In light of the recent drug topic arguments I should stress the topic at hand is government surveillance and NOT drug use.

Pay no attention to the soon to be mandatory radio frequency ID tags. They passed with no debate as it was snuck into the middle of a military budget appropriations bill.

That's FUCKED UP!!! I can't believe it!!! Right after I read that article I had to go to my senators' web pages and write them (yeah right, probably some secretaries) a letter telling them how stupid they are. Well I didn't really call them stupid but it was strongly implied. I really just expressed my dissatisfaction with the 100-0 vote and how they could be involved. Everybody on this forum should do the same if you live in the US, no matter what your age is.

The DEA is zealous in it's mission to stop people from relieving pain.
They regularly investigate and target doctors who they decide has issued to many prescriptions for powerful drugs.
Doctors are thus intimidated and scared to proscribe the medication their patients actually need.

Hey thanks and way to make a joke out of a serious issue. If you really think it's funny, pick up your phone, call a friend, and tell them you're a terrorist, then come on here a few days leter and tell us how long it took for the SWAT team to arrive at your door. You joke now but any money says you believe me too much to try it.

I don't believe they're tracing all phone calls either. I believe there are certain words or phrases that trigger people to watch certain people more closesly, whether or not they were joking. as for trying it yourself, goodluck, the swat team analog came from a real stoyr from a friend of mine.

That whole "watch what you say on the phone" shit is sooooooo eight years ago.
I've heard that stupid shit since I moved back to the states. Just teens makin other teens paranoid. Try it. It's complete bullshit.
Just the logic of it all is stupid. Do you really think that there are people in your local FBI outpost sitting around listening to completely everyday people's phone conversations? No wait!!! It's the giant super-terrorist-word-noticing computer!!! Give me a fucking break. My favorite post in this whole thread so far:

BTW, A really, really trust worthy friend of mine told me that he found out the real reason they didn't close MCAS Cherry Point is because the whole base is really the second largest nuclear launch facility in the United States. Why would he tell me that if it wasn't true? Psssshhhhtt....I don't believe they're tracing all phone calls either. Yeah, well, that's the way budget proposals work in Congress. Congressmen attach what are called 'riders'-- basically pork barrel or controversial legislation, but because that's such a small part of the whole bill, it passes anyways. Good ol' politicsTsiangkun wrote:Pay no attention to the soon to be mandatory radio frequency ID tags. And as far as that phone monitoring thing, think of how hard that would be to operate. There are hundreds of thousands if not millions of calls within the US every day. Monitoring all those calls would be a LOT of work, and voice recognition technology almost undoubtably would not be up to the task.
