Right on Nate! I really wanted to put Dave in when I saw the topic, but couldn't after thinking hard on it. I think Ahren Gehrman is still better than Dave though...but I may be wrong. Dave's done dropless routines and nemesis and gauntlet both sides...he may make the grade already.

Hey,
I think this line up is pretty solid
Jim Penske
Lon Smith
Scott Bevier
Peter Irish
Ryan Mulroney
(Ricky Moran would make that list if he was 100%)
After that it gets pretty hazy, too many good freestylers.
On a side note, all of these freestylers save one will be attending the Portland Jam July 16-17th. Check them out and decide for yourself!

Humm,
I think Red's right, adding Flash in the top 5, especailly based on his performance in comps. And also, I would add Red himself to my list of possibles. He's not too shabby
.
Peace.

It's interesting to see how few of the best US players use barraging sets, vs similar lists for the world, or Europe. A testament to the old school?
Also, it's nice to see you guys posting, Red & Jim.

I agree with Newf. When you look at the trick selection of newer players and compare it with older players there is (in my opinion) a significant trend - not just with barraging but with lots of moves and combos. Most of the players people have mentioned in this topic have been playing for a long time. Jim Penske is probably the youngest and newest person on the list - so the fact that he does do barraging (I think) vidicates what Newf is saying. It would be more surprising if Penske did hit old more old school runs.

What kind of tricks were you thinking of? I guess it all depends on what you think is old school. Whirl is an old school move but now it's probably the most commom trick hit. If you mean more unique moves than I agree with you. Its good to see people switch it up. Maybe people should post unique combos that they think of.
