Finding Rod Lavers

It's becoming such a bitch to find Lavers it's ridiculous. I'm thinking we need two threads with people posting what they have & what the want. I can't find 8.5 Mesh Lavers anywhere for under $50. I'm going to be stuck with this twill version forever . I'd like to pick up a new pair of Mesh 8.5's or 9's for $30. Is this unreasonable to ask? Should I just pick up a grungy green and white twills for $20 and quit hoping for an oppurtunity I can afford (because my parents see footbag as a waste of time)? Should I just take up shuffleboard instead?

Every now and then you'll find Rod Lavers on ebay. I got a brand spankin new pair of red mesh on there. A week before that I saw a new pair of green mesh.

Leather is just as good as mesh, if not better, if you modify them. Try sending Lon Smith (ShredOnLawn) a message, he may be able to hook you up with something.

Maybe you should work on convinceing your parents that footbag is not a waste of time. Then they might chip in a bit.

I found some lavers for 30 bucks in a gift shop on Time Square, NYC. Just look around everywhere you go, maybe you'll luck out.

If it were that easy, I wouldn't be the only one with this difficulty. I bought ct520's-but couldn't mod them to my liking. I've got twill, however they've become incredibly dirty and I cut the hell out of them modding them. I figure now I've got some experience-I should just kick it with mesh. My parents on the other hand think I've got enough & yadda yadda-keeping in mind they've never paid a penny concerning the matter.

Now it's a matter of: Why is our equipment so hard to come by? How can we get parental figures to support footbagging?

heres the solution:


CT 520's rock the house. They are better than lavers in many respects, ONCE THEY ARE MODDED CORRECTLY.

Here are the mods i found most helpful:

1. Cut out the PADDING IN THE TONGUE. It makes The toes much bigger and forgiving.

2. Make a shoe goo rail to fill in the gap in the instep. This helps so much with clippers


These are helpful, but not necessary mods

1. Cut out the Inner padding in the instep.

2. Cut out the inner padding in the toe

3. Cut the Stitches connecting the toe walls to the toe, like you would with lavers.



You dont need new shoes, you can just make use of your old ones!

Thanks man. I took out the padding along the top & tried to carve out the toe box (my fingers are too short and fat to do it properly):lol:

I'm going to shoe goo it once I figure out how to properly

Dosn't Lon Smith have tons of lavers for sale for a pretty reasonable price? You should check his blog or PM him. I think he is ShredOnLawn on this forum.
