Somewhat new at this, got just a few small questions.

Post by Switch Kicker »

Yup, I've been playing for about 10 months. Only been freestyling and doing actual tricks for about 2 months. I just want to know the names of some basic stall. I mean, every one know what a butterfly, and pendilum paradox is, but I've actually never heard names for basic stalles.

Ok, first one. Lets just say that all of these are with your right leg. You bend your legs sideways and stall it on the outside of your foot. What's that called?

Stalling it on your knee. (Nothing special, but what's it called?)

Bottom of your foot.

Back of heel.

And also, I did a new trick (New to me anyways.) the other day. It was just like a pendilum, but different. On my right foot, it's stalled on the left side, damn near about to roll off. I bring my foot back up behind me and pop it up on the left side of my left foot and it comes up and in front of my face, so, I thought it was cool, but then again, I'm a novice. What's that called?

And one more. I see this alot in all the pros' films, like Evan Lovely and shiz. It's a clipper, but they are turning around and doing it. I just called it a 360 Clipper, but wasn't it really called?

Thanks. With this info I'll be able to describe a new trick I did today, that I've never seen. And I've watched my fair share of footbag vids.

As for naming stalls go, you simply take the body part or "kick" doing the stall.

Just to name a few (not in any order):

Outside stall
Inside stall
Head stall
Sole stall
Clipper stall....

Stalls are also called delays, such as "toe delay"

If you havn't yet, check out flipsider.com
From the site, you can click on media and practice room where you can view lots of tricks ranging in difficulty.

Happy Footbagging!

The last one is not fluke. I do it alot now. It's just like my pedilum. I actually make it roll off the side of my foot and it comes down in front of me just like it would a pendilum. Yea, I was at a public park today, and I saw some hacky sack players. So I came up and asked if I could join. I told them I'm a footbag player and they're like, yea, we're into hacky sack alot too. And I'm just about to tell them the difference, but then I just decide, whatever. But I did that trick and went into an Osis, but I did an around the world thing right before I did it. What would that be called?

Yes, I've seen my friend on flipsider.com, I personally havn't checked it out yet.

Well, anyways, here the string of tricks I did yesterday. This was all just spur of the moment, it wasn't premeditated. (I only say this because I've only been freestyling for 2 months, and my friend Josh (atleast 5 times better than I) was just blown away by it's smoothness.) left foot clipper set, right foot double around the world, outside stall, backwards around the world to a rake (sp?). It is by far the most beutifully smooth string trick I've ever done. It's not exactly the hardest trick, but it's so smooth looking and I love it. Hell, my friend says it's smoother than the shit that Ricky Moran pulls, and he's the smoothest footbag player that my friend and I both have ever seen.

I also pulled off my first double whirl (riptine) yesterday. WOOT!

I'm sorry, I'm just so damn proud of my self. Cause I didn't start taking this seriously untill just 2 to 3 weeks ago when I decided to actually spend freaking $100 on Rod Lavers, 2 Mr. Sandbags, Abshire 32 panal, and forsome reason a Sand Master somehow ended up at my door along with the other packages... I didnt' even order it, nor was any money taken from my account, but hey, why complain?

Thanks again.

Well, after some practice, I've just about perfected it. Sorry about the name mix ups, I just say them how my friend Josh SOUNDS like he's saying them. Riptide sounds kinda like Riptine when he says it. And yes, I truely have been freestyling for only 2 months. Sure, I was able to do a single dex since forever, but that's about it.

Today I pulled of another new string that I thought was kinda niffty.
Clipper set-wrap-dex-osis. The osis was very sloppy and I lost it, but it's an accomplishment in my book...

And why are you so worked up over the double dex outside stall reverse dex rake thing? Is it really "that" good?

I use both my feet, I'm still working on a "smooth" pendulum for my left foot, I got the dexs, and basic stalls and crap down, it's just hard to get that damn pendulum. I have no fucking idea why, but I have a lot of trouble on doing the damn Mirrage, I can do it when I'm REALLY hyped up, but other than that, it's pretty damn sloppy and I seem to miss it alot.

Last night, I was REALLY hyped up and I was just doing Mirrages back and forth and then my friend was watching a vid and he's like, "Bet ya $20 bucks you can't do a Nemesis." And I'm like, durh, of course I can't. But I decided to try it for 10 minutes anyway. After about 8 minutes, I"m like, 5 feet in the air trying to do this damn trick. FINALLY, I get my right foot around, then my left foot around, but I didnt' have enough air to land it, so I sprained my ankle. That trick is like, IMPOSSIBLE. You know how fast you have to be to do that? *Asplodes doing the calculations.*

Oh ya, almost forgot. *Urinates in SlapDash's face.*

double dex outside stall reverse dex rake thing

thats not what a whirr is , a whirl a single dex trick is either set from clipper or toe and you go from in to out dex like a pickup and stall it to a clipper after that , so a whirr is pretty much like a double pickup bailed to clipper.

Reread the topic, and then decide weather or not you should edit/delete the above post. Because from where I'm standing, that had nothing to do with what's been going on in here. And if it is, please explain, because I don't see how it ties in with what's been said...

I wasn't flipping out. All I really said was that you weren't making sense and I was giving simple reasons as to why it wasn't making sense, and possible factors that you might have overlooked, that could have led to your post that had nothing to do with what we were talking about.

Anyways, I never said the DATW outside>stylie rake was a Whirl, or a Whirr for that matter. Either way, your post confused me, and I'm simply trying to straighten it out.

I'm a straightforward kind of guy. I don't beat around the bush for 3 to 4 posts long before we realize that somebody make a mistake somewhere. It's my personality, if you screw up, I'm gonna let you know it. I can't help it. If I screw up, please, let me know. I assure you that you will get a polite thank you and not a spaztastic assumption of anger.

By the way, the fact that I've only been here several days has nothing to do with the fact that there is confusion going on between yours and my posts. So please do try to use it as an insult or argument, as it's hardly valid in anyones book.

You know what. I think I might've found out where we got mixed up. When I said I did a double around the world and all that jazz, you probably thought I meant double whirl. Because you said I was getting trick names mixed up. Either way, I'll gladly drop all this confusion and offer you a friendly electronic handshake if you will.

Double whirl=Whirr. You called it riptine. YOu meant to say ripstein, which is double SWIRL. Either way, what you hit is neither of those, and you said it.

You are good at pissing people off though, ill give you that. Your trick naming skills are no where near your pissing off people skill.

Thank you mucho Henry. However, if you look at what you quoted me. I said, I "also" did my first... Whatever. And I've said before (might not have been in this topic. If not, my bad.) that I'm new at this, and get the names mixed up pretty damn easily. And yes, it seem the most straightforward and literal people seem to piss off others the most, and the easiest. It's a curse. I have a smile that I can rub off because of that, heh heh. Ok, just to straighten things out.

The few tricks that I did for the first time a few days ago would be:
DATW outside>stylie rake (I've heard several people tell me that that's what it is called. If I'm wrong, please correct me.)

Ok, I clipper stalled it with my right foot. Flung it up several inches, and moved my right foot around it twice, and then hit it. It was VERY sloppy, I was very lucky to hit the trick, and I haven't come any where NEAR to being close to reproducing the trick again, therefore, it was a fluke. Either way, I hit it and I'm happy. Now, tell me what that little doo hicky of a trick would be called. Please.

Alright. The combo Double around the world outside>stylie rake is correct. Except its not called stylie rake. Its just a rake.

The thing you said later, right foot clipper, go around it twice with your right foot, and stalling it, is a Ripstein. Or a double SWIRL.

Now im being straightforward:

If your still confused then you are retarded.

How does it feel?

Just kidding Yo. No hard feelings

Why isn't it called a stylie rake? It's going from an outside stall to a reverse dex to a rake, and someone said taht that is a stylie rake. If not, what's it called then?

Fuck, everyone is being so stupid and cryptic!

There is no such thing as a stylie rake.

"stylie" is just a stupid word we use to describe a trick done particularly stylishly.
It is not a trick name, its just a descriptive term.

also, there is no "reverse dex", and that is likely a source of confusion for us.

perhaps you can take another stab at describing the motions with dex directions and then we can help you out better.

There's a reason that jobs' notation was invented. Check these out to eliminate confusion:

Jobs' Tutorial:
http://www.footbag.org/faq/show?id=jobs-tutorial

There's also a trick list with the name of the trick and the Job's describing it @:

Also, I just want to make sure you have this right, because I have seen it happen before. When you say Double around the world, do you mean do one around the world catch it then set it again then do another around the world with the same foot. If so that's not a double around the world that's just two around the worlds in the same string. A double around the world is one set dex it twice then catch it. The only reason that I thought you might be making this mistake is because here you call a string (a series of tricks) one trick
left foot clipper set, right foot double around the world, outside stall, backwards around the world to a rake (sp?). It is by far the most beutifully smooth string trick I've ever done. It's not exactly the hardest trick, but it's so smooth looking and I love it.
