Guten Tag!

On general request: I hereby present the Brussels footblog!

As I am for now the only poster (that is: person who posts) from Brussels on this forum, I think this thread will mainly have posts by: me! That's why I broadened the scope a bit and included all of Belgium; small as the Belgian footbag scene may be, at least I won't be the only guy posting here (Dimi from Mechelen! Save me!).

The Belgian footbag scene: that is a handful of clubs with from 1 to over 10 members. I'm pretty sure the club in Brussels is the biggest club.

The most active members of the Brussels Footbag Club are

-Seb (the boss): mainly tiltless stuff, likes flyers
-Alexis: wack stuff, also likes flyers and spins
-Sean (American connection): kicks our asses consecutively, but is leaving Brussels permanently later this month for his native country again *sob sob*.
-EDIT: hopefully, before the end of this summer, we'll have Max in the club to kick all our asses simultaneously.
NEWER EDIT: we have!
-A handful of young and promising kids of whom I will inform you later on.

And to kick off the topic of footbag proper, I'll list some of my latest achievements:

-Flailing butterfly & tapping legover (two weeks ago)
-sidewalk>ripwalk>side>rip>run
5.5 consecutive ripwalks (last weekend)
-during my last but one session on tuesday: dimwalk>blur>dimwalk>blur
-during my most recent session on wednesday:
new infinity record set to 34.

blender sealed BS

Of course, these are but the highlights of my seshes. I alternate good stuff with crappy days...

Hullo again,

I was thinking today: actually it’s kinda ironic that I start a Brussels footblog just now, as I moved out of Brussels (permanently?) last weekend after having lived there for almost 1.5 years. As the main reason for living in Brussels was that I study there, and my final year at university is coming to an end, there was little reason for me to linger there.

SO, for the time being I’m back at my parents’ now in the beautiful town of Opwijk (11,500 souls). For footbag, this has some drastic consequences. On the one hand, I’ll have to miss the weekly company of my BFC footmates. Opwijk is less than 30 km (=20 miles?) away from Brussels, but the connections of public transport are so HORRIBLE that all in all the trip will take me about three hours for two hours of shred. L
On the other hand, because there is so much space left in Opwijk (in contrast with Brussels!!!), I have tens of potential shredplaces now! Hrrr.

All of these (except the terrace behind the house) are semi-public. That is to say: they’re public, but few of those 11,500 souls ever pass by. Mostly, I’m on my own. Although there was this one time last week when I was kicking and a friend of mine was playing the djembé. All of a sudden, a bunch of kids (with everything from 6 up to 10 years of age) showed up and got so enthusiastic about us that they started clapping and cheering. That was pretty cool. After an hour or so, their parents (also lots of them) came by from the nearby cafe looking for their offspring. Of course, I hit shit in front of so many people (the children kept requesting spinning osis) but the parents kinda liked the idea of cheap babysitters and treated me and my drummer friend on some beers.
I think that was the first time ever I gained anything (materialistically speaking) from footbag.

Anyway, I went back there this afternoon and had a decent 1.45h practice in front of NO audience except for the municipality worker who was mowing the grass. But he got paid to be there, so I’m not counting him in. That’s another novelty of shredding in Opwijk: in a town, people are almost afraid to look at you. Especially when I take off my shirt (hmmm :-s wonder what that means). Most of them are like: “o dear, there is a naked twenty-something guy going frenzical with a toy bag. Don’t attract his attention”.

Anyway, I’m digressing again. The session was pretty good. I finally hit
* bloody barfly (BS). The dexes could be a bit deeper though.
* Also paradon>barrage>run BS
* a 13 contact guiltless run. Although half of the tricks weren’t genuine, I’m happy with any guiltless 10+ run.
* a new consecutive osi record when I was cooling down: 14 (previous record 12).

Normally, I’m shredding again tomorrow morning (with Bert the drummer friend). Morning. Early. Hmmm. Little expectations.

I did kick this morning, it was a 2 hour session that I had to interrupt quite a few times cuz of wind and rain. Makes me wonder: when sandbags get really wet, why don't they become mudbags?

In spite of the early hour, my game was okay. Just fooling around with a few tricks, and all of a sudden I do this 15 contacts guiltless run. Whoohoo! Must've been my record. The next two runs were 11 and 9 contacts, so I was like: say hullo to Mr. Stamina...

Set my osis record to 15 too. Hehe.

PS. Am I the only person kicking in this whole bloody country? Come on BKC, make some noise!

Back to business!

Guess what! I ended up kicking yesterday evening (2h10)...! My warming up was really really promising. I did long runs without effort. In the first half hour (that includes warming up) I did about seven 10+ guiltfree contacts runs, which was sweet.

Among those was one 18 contact run! Yup, again a new record. If adding three tricks to my best ever becomes a daily habit, I'll beat Lon's 95 in less than a month.

After those thirty minutes of rumble it kinda watered down to a good (but not exceptional) session. No new tricks or anything, in spite of desperate attempts at some tricks in order to avoid going home 'empty handed'.

On the other hand, I finally got my spins consistent again. Weee!

I think it's about time to take a day off. I had a 1.30h shred yesterday that was very unfruitful - or at least I think it was...

Hmmm, I remember little or nothing of that sesh... perhaps that's why it sucked; my mind being elsewhere!

Anyway, I did some breaking in of my new (and first, in fact!) 32. Made in Germany by Jochen Bauer. It's the sweetest bag ever! Unfortunately I can't post pictures for now.

Oh yeah, now that I'm thinking of it, I did a VERY clean swirl. Did swirl before, but never that clean. I think that's about the only highlight of yesterday's kick.

Time to go cycling with a buddy of mine. Yeah, alternating sports rocks!

Yesterday's (1h) and today's (1h50) sessions were average. I feel that I often start off really well, but start sucking after 30-45 minutes... fatigue I think.

Cool thing happened yesterday at the end of the practice though. My girlfriend had been reading a book next to the basket-ball court where I shred (the weather was heavenly) and suddenly she says: 'Hey, what if I filmed you with my digicam?' (free translation from Dutch).

I was like: 'sweet! That would be the first time I get to see myself shredding!' (again from Dutch). I knew her camera films clips of maximally 15 seconds, so I figured: 'this is an excellent challenge! I wanna do some dropless clips.'

We tried three times, and two of the clips were actually dropless! Awwwwwww! Of course I threw in lotsa BOP to be on the safe side, but still it was kinda cool. The first clip contains 16 contacts of a 19 contact run.

I watched the clips today and, well, from the little you can derive of such short films, I'm quite pleasantly surprised with my style. My right clipper goes out a little too far sometimes and I also had the impression my ripwalks and sidewalks look kinda 'pulled' (or funny, at least) but my osi, ducks, and blurs look very yummie. I'm being severe for myself here
