MAN! there are so many powerful/emotional bands out there.
Some that just hit me are:

Copeland - They do a great cover of 'take my breath away' from Top Gun, even better than the original IMO. Other really good songs by them: Part time lover, There cannot be a close second, When Paula sparks.

Coldplay: Their piano rock mixed with such deep lyrics just hits me sometimes... Parachutes and A rush of blood to the head were such great albums.

Minus the Bear: I really don't know how to desribe this band, but they are great and everyone should check them out! Cool keyboard action.

Explosions in the Sky: Whoever said music had to have lyrics to be powerful... My fave instrumental band of all time.

Radiohead: I just can't say enough good things about this band, definately my fave of all time! 'lucky', 'true love waits', 'how to disappear', 'nice dream', 'exit music', 'karma police', 'spinning plates'. I am missing soooo many.

Other powerful bands I am not even going to desribe that people should check out if they havent already: Grade (under the radar album), Brand new, Brother Ali, The Last Emperor, Damien Jurado, Pedro the Lion, Thursday, Filmmaker (broken up, but whatever), This day forward (also RIP), mogwai, and I can make a mess like nobodys business.

Damn that's a lot music, but I am still sure I will think of more in an hour.

Estranged by Guns N' Roses always tears me up, but it's a great tune. I used to listen to on repeat in junior high.

I first heard this song the day of one of my good friend's funeral (RIP Daniel Perry) so it hurts everytime I hear it.

I have heard that cover too, I am pretty sure it's by Evergreen Terrace.

I really like Johnny Cash covering NIN's "hurt'. I also really like Radioheads 'true love waits', 'how to disappear' and their cover of pink floyds 'wsh you were here'.

the most impacting song i've listen to in a long time is..

Incline by Nick Laroche off of his The Laroche Revelution album. That song rocks, gives me goose bumpbs and pumps me up for anything. props man! you guys should all check out his stuff if you haven't.
