ESPN

Post by Disturbedboy365 »

alright, last night i was flipping through the channels, and saw the World Juggling Championship on ESPN so i figured i would take a look at it, and i got real into it, but while i was watching it, only one thought was in my mind... why not footbag? is this because of a lack of effort on our part? a lack of interest on ESPN's part? and what did the juggling community do to get their world championship on ESPN? I think this would be a great way to get footbag out there to more people for them to see.

The event was set up by that guy pushing his juggling videos during the airing of the event. I hear he's is not well liked in the juggling community. He didn't allow women to compete. I thought it was a big joke, more of a sideshow than a competition, especially with that comedian Penn making fun of the jugglers. I do NOT want footbag portrayed this way.

i really think we should be able to get it on ESPN 1 or 2...they put so much bullcrap on there like bowling championships and stuff...there should be a segment available or something when they put on national spelling bees and crap.

Hey ! I used to be on a touring league as a bowler, and it's definately way cooler than footbag.

When footbag tournaments are held at a bar, then we will be as cool as bowling. Yep, hold events at bars and spectators will stick around and watch, and TV will take notice because if nothing else, beer companies will throw down for some ads.

The stands aren't packed at bowling events because it's cool to watch or exciting, it's because there is a nice bar located at the event.

Same thing with billiards, poker, and darts.

Nice job Peter on finding that missing element, I revise my statement to be :

Too many drops, and events are held at the wrong venue.

Ried from Higland Park (near chicago) has a friend who's father works for ESPN, he said something today aobut looking into it and about meeting the guy sometime soon. Maybe he'll find this thread and expand a bit on this.

Besides the xgames, has anyone tried to push for an apearence for epsn or a meeting with espn? Maybe if someone knows somone that knows someone? espn has a few different channels, maybe if we pushed enough we can get on at least one of them.

yeah, my friend talked to her father, who is affilated with Espn, I thnk he´s head of programming. All I know is he knows about footbag, and knows about worlds in finland this summer. So with that said, all that is certain right now is that someone with some weight on the Espn board is aware of the sport.

Awesome! That would be pretty amazing if ESPN were covering worlds. If they are willing to show scrabble tournaments and spelling bees, I would hope they'd be willing to show the footbag world championships.

1 word...................... DOMINOES.

Why the fuck are they showing competitive dominoes on ESPN? It really disturbs me. Esspecially when the announcers get really into it by talking quietly like they're at a fucking golf tournemnt.

It makes me sick.

XBox Live is a sport. It's on ESPN, so it must be a sport. Ugh, ESPN has sold out in so many ways it's pathetic.

I don't understand how a corporate entity can sell out. Surely their sole purpose is to make money... It sounds like a contradicting statement.

Don't hate on dominoes, it's a great game. Watching the tourneys is lame though. I still haven't seen one white professional domino player yet, RACISM. Or maybe not. (PS i think if someone taped and edited/announced the world footbag comp maybe epsn would air it) Write some big long thing about the evolution of sports and where epsn comes in having a responibility to the spread of this wave blar blar, i know it probably wouldn't work though.

I hate to say it, but I don't think that ESPN would be very interested in putting handycam footage of worlds on the air, no matter how l33t the skills of the editor are. Now, if someone cut together and edited a highlight reel of footbag stuff and sent it to them, something that showed them like the most extreme footbag stuff ever, then maaaaaybe they'll watch it. Straight up though, they're not gonna air unprofessional footage. If they want to air coverage of Worlds, they'll send a camera crew themselves, with the proper equipment for real tv broadcasting. It'd be cool if they would air handycam shots, but I have a feeling it's better to not get your hopes up.
