I'm sure someone has said this before but i'm pretty sure it's a good answer...

I used to have this problem too...I'd venture to guess alot/ most beginners do. The solution is not a easy one and not always the most fun. YOU JUST GOTTA DRILL. Practice, yea practice, the moves you have trouble with especially. If you don't feel like a long shred session sometimes just do some drills of those moves. Just takes practice to get good consistency...good luck man!

I have/had that problem, too. What I do/did is/was work on getting as many consecutives as possible. Like, for example, doing as many butterflys as you can. This way, you get a lot of repetition and you have to do something into and out of the move. Once you get good at that, or if you don't like that drill, you could do other ones, such as osis > butterfly. You get the idea-- just try putting things together. No one starts out able to link stuff, all the awesomeness that's crams into the videos we watch is a result of LOTS and LOTS of drilling.

Some drunken wisdom from me:
Try drilling mirage>legover and illusion>pickup to help get your legs get some more dexterity and stamina. Just a few days of doing it will help a lot.

Try doing every move in your repertoire into every other move. Practice doing that.

OK, I have some much different advice then anyone here. If your problem really is linking then drilling is good advice, but it might be timing it seems. I don't know about anyone else, but when I first started I would hit one trick stop, wait with it on my toe, hit next trick repeat. This made it very hard to link lots of tricks because I had to freeze them all. This didn't get fixed until I started playing with other people and they showed me. This might not be your problem, but if it is try to bounce with your moves and set the bag almost as soon as you catch it, don't catch and hold. Always try to stay on your toes. Sometimes you can even think of the timing for moves like beats. It's really hard to explain writing all I can say is try to play with other people if you don't already, and if you can't then try playing more like you see in videos. Again, I don't have any clue if this is actually your problem, but that's how I started playing so I guess it might be. Hope I could help.

food for linking thought:

1) to link moves, stalls have to be solid so that sets for the next move are precise. practice not the move but the stall and the set from the move.

2) as opposed to drilling individual moves, which of course is necessary, drill combos, as has been mentioned above. Ex: pixie>mirage>pixie>mirage, clipp> ss clip>op clip>ss clip, clip>mirage>legover>pickup>repeat on other side

3) to link moves you can hit, your consistency for those moves must be very high, since you are hitting them into and out of other moves, practically at random. Thus increasing the consistency of indivdual moves should improve your string length.

4) practice your timing; try to play to a beat in your head so that all of your moves flow into each other. Make all of your moves fluid and hit them with the same speed/timing.

5) dont get frustrated when you drop something you think you shouldnt have, just keep practicing.
