Well, I played for about an hour today. It felt really good. Among the highlights:

Flipside Pdx Mirage sealed
Ducking dragonfly sealed
Longer tiltless runs (average is 3-4, but I think my highest is around 7)

So my bothsides is coming along alright I suppose. My left leg just feels like it will always be weak from when I tore my ACL. I hit a few 3>3>3 combos like Smear>Dimwalk>Pdx Mirage, but I don't really want to worry with those too much until I can actually consistently hit my tiltless stuff. Too bad I'm just way too busy to do most everything anymore... but playing with my friends is definitely fun. I'm teaching my friend Chris to play some, and he's hitting stuff like ATW's and Pixie's... working on mirages. He has no clipper game, and probably won't. Hell, he's learning from me, afterall... ;). But nevertheless, I'm working both sides clippers more because I want to actually be able to throw them into my game later on.

Yeah man, yeah! GRASS was awesome! I already posted my review of it in the GRASS thread, but I'll write a little about it I guess. Chris and I were supposed to leave for NY (12 hour drive!) Thursday morning around 10 with our friend Quintin. He didn't show up and we waited for him and kept trying to call him until about 3:45 when we actually got in contact with him and he told us that he could leave Greenville later that night and stay at my house in Raleigh and we could leave Friday morning. So we ate dinner and around midnight Q calls saying that he'll be in Raleigh around 4-5 AM. So... Chris and I watched Just Shred II and Garden State and then we hit the sack and decided we'd see Quintin in the morning. Around 5:30 AM he calls and tells us to go without him. It totally sucked; we lost a day. And a lot of sleep. But oh well.

So we leave Friday morning around 8 or so and get to Ithaca and stay with a chapter of our fraternity. That was awesome! Those guys were great. Then we left Saturday morning for Rochester, but got there after all the competition and everything so we missed basically everything. Then we went to IHOP and then to Mike Anello's house for the party, but we were so exhausted from driving so much and not sleeping, that we fell asleep on his couches. Then Chris and I left and came back on Sunday and got back around midnight. So... we missed mother's day, but oh well. GRASS was cool, meeting the guys in Ithaca was awesome, and I'm like broke, but that's okay. Chris got a sweet Patty bag and I got a footfighter that is pretty choice... I really like it.

Anyways so now that I'm alone in Raleigh I just play by myself some. I hit flip far pickup and I footed Phoenix and that's about it... my clippers are getting a little better. Other than that no new moves or anything really. I got Pixie Clipper > Pickup > Legover > Smear > Mirage tonight and that felt pretty good. I gotta work on slowing down my game because I feel like if I would just wait more on moves I would hit stuff easier. Anyways, that's my update.

Um... nothing too much that I hit today.

Smear>Paste (I wanna try Pixie Clipper > Far Pickup > Smear > Paste... I think I could link those together... course I need to skool my damn flipside)
Flipside Ducking Clipper (Tried to hit Ducking clip > ducking clip but couldn't get it)

and I footed phoenix again. Twice. Frustrating.

I mostly worked on the challenges people have given me and failed miserably. Today wasn't really a great day, but at least I got out and played a while. It was hot as hell and humid, and I recently got really sick. So... hopefully all that will go away and I'll play in the nighttime next time and do better. Or with other people. 8O

Just a new move:

Magellan

Can't believe I hadn't ever hit it before... I footed it first try and then sealed it on my second... put it in a few runs. Now if only my flip pixie was good...

Worked on flip legovers some more... got a few... actually I got Legover>Legover (Rpt.) but then dropped. It was extremely humid today, I was sweating horribly bad. So overall, I guess it was just good to play.

Hit Smudge for the first time. That's phat. I did it after I hit a really clean PLO and realized that I could probably get an illusion after the pixie set if I tried. Got it. And I'm really not that good at illusions in the first place.

I completed another challenge... it was Legover>Legover (X4) and I got it X5 so that's cool.

I want to learn a new set. I'm thinking either Atomic, Quantum, or Stepping. Any advice?

Sweet stuff David!! Sounds like your game is going well! As to which set to learn - I'd say not quantum because the others are easier - although you might not find that. I think I learnt atomic before stepping but that's mainly because I played with Lynton Stephens a lot - and he does a lot of atomics. Why not spend some time working on both - see how it goes - you can stick with one or keep doing both. I think that there is a strong connection between stepping and atomic so I'm sure you can learn both.

Word. I cleared out some space in our basement to play, so I played a couple hours tonight. Nothing really new. I think I hit toe whirl? (Toe>Same In>Op Clip) But... I'm not sure if that's what it is. There's no way I can do the challenges on my challenge page. I don't have a strong enough clipper game to do that stuff yet. But I'm working on it. I feel like my footfighter is breaking in pretty well. Yeah so that's cool. Right now I have location problems as far as playing with anyone else. I want to play with Joshua A. and Chris, but I won't be able to for a while it looks like. But next week I'll be in New Orleans and I definitely want to check out their scene.

Anyways... I've been working on Clipper>Pickup (Rpt) and Pixie>Legover on my flipside... my flip leg is so horrible. I don't know if it'll ever be flexible again, after my surgery and stuff. I guess it sucks shredding with a screw in your knee! But I know that Eric Wolf did it too, so he's always been one of my idols. Anyways, peace.

Wow what a shitty session. My legs were dead from shredding yesterday and my day today, which is quite an interesting story if I do say so myself.

So... today was interesting, but the story starts about a week ago when my next door neighbor (who always asks me to do odd jobs so that he can help me pay for college and trips) asked me if I'd like to make some money. I said sure and he called me over to his backyard and told me that his septic system had been overflowing occasionally lately and that he was paying some guy to come in and dig up the ground and get to the septic tanks and figure out what was causing the problem. He asked if I wanted to help, and I hesitated, but I said yes. So today was the day that I was supposed to meet the guy and work with him on my neighbor's backyard. I must say I was not only nervous, but PRAYING for a thunderstorm (weather.com sucks, it totally made me think it was going to rain all day and the rain held off until after I saw Star Wars Episode III which ROCKED!!!). So anyways, I make myself get up after shredding till 2:30 AM and sleeping for only a few hours, and I head over to my neighbor's backyard with two shovels and a pair of gloves. :?

I'm greeted by an older man who appears to be between 55 and 60. He says "My, you look like the man for the job!" and I say "We'll see." Because I really had no idea what I was going to be doing. Well, we get to the site and he's already started digging a hole and I'm like, okay. So he starts explaining to me how septic tanks are set up and I'm kind of trying to understand, but not fully getting it. Anyways so basically there's a box where the solids stay, and then a box that filters out the solids from the liquids, and the liquids continue on their path and then they get to a large tank at the end of the line. That's what it is essentially anyways. So we dig up the distribution box first (the filter) and when he opened the lid, I swear to god I almost vomited because I really wasn't expected to be greeted by red goop that was bubbling. But anyways he decides that the distribution tank isn't the problem, so we dig up the next box which is a liquid box. That one I basically dug up myself, which is good experience... I'm not really used to digging holes. Especially not to go wading through sewage waste. But anways we pry open the lid and the concrete has become like, soft! He was able to poke a hole through it. That's bad! So then we got a hose and we stuck it in the distribution box and let it flow into the next box, and we notice that it flows through fine, but then backs up in the second box! So he explains that the two pipes that are supposed to carry the liquids further seem to be backed up. :x

Around that time my neighbor stopped by to check our progress and we showed him what we had done, and they were about to make me dig like a HUGE ASS HOLE to figure out whether it was the two outlet pipes that were clogged or smashed, and I luckily got out of it because the septic guy figured out that it would be a lot more work than he originally thought (thank god I was not about to dig a huge hole by myself, I was already tired). We looked in the solids tank, and that was DISGUSTING. 8O Oh man. There were ants crawling all over the lid, and a slug, and it was just sick. I'm not a big fans of bugs or large amounts of feces. Well, anyways... so then the decision is made that I'll fill in the holes, because my neighbor and the septic tank guy had to leave, so I filled in the holes and went home. I went over to my neighbor's house later to collect my money and I got $80, which is sweet. I worked 3 hours, and so he paid me $20 an hour plus a $20 tip. Sucks though... I owe $45 to my piano accompanist from my jury like a month ago. But oh well, now I can buy the cigars I've been wanting to... and have a little money for food in New Orleans next week! :D

I totally forgot to mention that the septic guy was a vietnam vet and he told me a lot of cool stories. Oh yeah and when I asked how long he'd been working on septic tanks and he said 1981, I said that that was a few years before I was born... and he said, "Yeah, I was knee-deep in shit before you were born." And that kind of made my day.

Anyways so that was my day, but I wish I could've played footbag some more... I just got discouraged and gave up. Tomorrow Chris is coming up from Laurenburg so we're going to probably have a shred session and watch a movie, and that'll be cool! :footbag:

Chris and I had a good session tonight.

Highlights:

More consistency in longer tiltless runs... I could go 10+ without too much effort after a while, but then I lost endurance. The drill I was working on was Legover>Legover>Pixie>Pixie>Pickup>Pickup and that's becoming easier, but my flip Legovers and Pickups were definitely holding me back.

Smear>Dimwalk>Far Legover

I've been working on DLO but I can't get the second dex fast enough for the stall.

Chris hit Pixie and footed Mirage.

It was cool because Chris played two hours, we went to a concert that a bunch of our friends played in, I got to see a bunch of my old high school friends, and then we came home and shredded.

Well I'm back from New Orleans. ITF 2005 (International Trombone Festival) was AMAZING. I could go on and on about that part of my trip, but... I'm tired.

So the footbag part:

I met Rob, Andrew, Larson, Steve, and some other guys last Wednesday at their session. It was really cool. I got a few pics in. Andrew's got a TON of fucking energy. I've told him how great modified is and he says he wants to join, so maybe he'll do that in a little while. Here was the rundown of Wednesday:

Rob called me back around midnight on Tuesday and said that we could probably shred around 5 on Wednesday. I got out of my concert on Wednesday around 5 and called Rob, with a little confusion of where to meet him and time and stuff, he picked me up and we headed downtown to meet the others, but not before stopping for food! Well then we headed downtown and parked and walked to the park area they were having their weekly shred at. We played for a good two hours or so till it got dark, and then Rob, Andrew, this other guy (totally forgot his name), and I headed to a café and got some free water. We sat around and talked about footbag for about an hour and then I had to head back to my trombone festival to meet up with the guys I had met that day. Well, Andrew had misplaced his TRUCK, and so we walked up and down the streets of New Orleans trying to find it for a while, and then we found it and he dropped me off on the campus I was staying at. I went in and took a shower and then when I got out my friends called and we headed to Bourbon street on the trolley and that was fun... so that's all the real shredding I did, although I played some sick ultimate frisbee a few times. Last night in New Orleans I chilled with Andrew and his local buds and that was awesome, although I ended up arriving at the airport slightly drunk after 7 or 8 shots of Bacardi Gold, a bottle of St. Pauli Girl beer, a shot of Smirnoff Vodka, another beer, and a 40 oz. of Olde English... and no sleep! But overall that was hilariously ironic to me, leaving New Orleans slightly buzzed and all... with no sleep.

Well, I'm heading to bed, maybe I'll shred some more later.

FUCK. Well I finally read all of Mosher's blog.. that was phat. I wish my blog was that cool. I guess I could make it that cool if my life was that... unique.

Oh well. No shred today, well... I tried DLO a few times. Still suck on the timing (help?). Maybe I'll shred tomorrow night. Probably not. Working 7:30-5 kills me and I come home and feel worthless. And tonight I stayed up too late because I got a new iPod Photo... traded in my old non-working 3rd Generation 20 gig iPod for this great new 30 gig device that holds photos (don't know how often I'll use that except possibly looking at girls and/or showing people pictures of freestyle). So I'm working on putting a few CDs on it as my computer is less than 20 gigs and cannot hold many of my 300-400 CDs on it anyways.

Today was fucking interesting I suppose. I worked... I now scan documents in for my boss and I have 3000+ to do by the end of the summer. I'm not sure if I'll finish. I have a flatbed scanner and these documents are huge. I only got through 50 today (but they're numbered weird so I'm on number 151). So now that I have a working iPod I can listen to music and not be bored. Sweet.

I recently went to New Orleans for some shred and an International Trombone Festival. That was amazing. But I've been really depressed musically lately (by lately I mean the whole year of 2005 so far). I wasn't motivated to practice trombone all second semester. I just let the fear of doubt eat away and my self confidence and now I sound like shit and that makes it even worse. And going and hearing all these incredible players made it even worse too. But tonight I had a long ass talk with my parents about it and I will continue to pursue my goal, and even attempt to get off my ass and practice. I made a daily routine today with a full-out practice schedule. (Don't worry, footbag's included, at 9 fucking PM). I'm going to be tired all summer with work so I might as well get some shit done. I don't know how people find time to do shit. I'm supposed to get a second job but I really don't know how I could fit in 2-4 hours of practicing trombone, practicing footbag, working 7:30-5 (weekdays only though), helping my family, SHIT A SPIDER... fuck I hate spiders. I usually leave them alone and hope they won't bother me while I'm sleeping. At least it's a few thousand steps away from my bed. Maybe that will help. I just don't like killing shit. Unless it's like, really huge. Or near my food. Fuck I'm not usually ADD. SO......... yeah I don't know how to fit in everything. I need to focus on trombone first and foremost though. And then my job(s). Because without money I can't go to college and then I'd be stuck in my hometown all summer and that would suck. And... I'd have lost a year of practicing and playing in good ensembles and shit. My first year was amazing.

You know that feeling you get when you see a spider and then a hair on your leg or neck starts to turn or blow in the wind or uncrinkle or whatever it does, and you think it's a spider or a horrendus creature attempting to kill you? Yeah, that just happened and I kicked my desk.

I'm awaiting a brand new bright orange/light purple Mosher 32. I hope it's sick. I plan to get another bag soon that is baby blue hexes and pink pents and name it Natalie. I still haven't named my footfighter. Maybe I will take a picture of it and ask everyone what I should name it. Yes, I will do that. Here... help me name my bag! (I know this was done in the past but I'm still doing it anyways)

Image

Well, I suppose I will finish putting on two more CDs to listen to tomorrow and then charge my iPod and go to bed. Good blogging with you guys again, I shall be back later.

So I still haven't named the bag but I think I might end up naming it Blue Steel, or something will just come to me. I had a tradition of naming bags after jazz musicians, so maybe I'll keep that up. I can't wait till I get my baby blue/pink bag so I can name it Natalie. That's my favorite name. For various reasons, I suppose.

I need a haircut. I think I'll shred later tonight. I need to practice trombone now, and then I'm going to a concert, and I think I'll play when I get back. Weeeeee!

Well I had a session tonight:

Flipside Ducking Dragonfly First Try!!!
12 move tiltless string... broke my old record
Record 16 inside stalls!

Overall it was good and fun, I had longer tiltless runs and stuff. Very cool. Inside stalls will help my clippers, which is good. So I will continue drilling insides a lot. I want to meet Moxie's challenge to me, which is 5 consecutive flipside clippers (same side). I can't do that yet, I can only get to three. My record for my goodside is 8. Clippers are WEAK! But overall I hit some cool stuff. Nothing too big, no new moves really to say... well I hit clipset ss legover, and I'd never hit that. But that's not too big. I will try flipside tomorrow.. I'm so tired. It's like 2 AM. My shoes are going to be horrible tomorrow, I played in them w/o socks. I tore some of the fabric up and cut up my right foot, which sort of sucks. I had been wondering what was hurting the whole time and I guess it was an eyelet. Weak. I'll have to figure it out... Let's see. So that was that. Me and Luke (old shred buddy from high school) are going to try to get together on Tuesday. Chris is gone all week so he can't shred with me. And I'm working now so I'm usually tired when I get home and don't play. But anyways enough rambling.

Gah! Now I'm super excited about my new Mosher bag that should be coming sometime soon. Orange hexes, purple pents. Apparently it's the inverse of Andrew Grant's bag. I think they should get married, hahahaha. I was just talking to Tom about it on MSN and now I'm super psyched. He's going to start making it soon. I don't want to seem over-excited about this bag, but I am for some reason very excited. I'll definitely have a good review and a few pics up of the bag whenever I get it. Super psyched!

Anyways I should be shredding later tonight.

Well tonight's session was kind of a bust. Last night I noticed a pain in my right foot above a knuckle on my big toe and it was really red, about to get cut and bleed. Well tonight it got cut and started bleeding so I took my shoes off and examined it a bit and decided to go cutting away (hopefully I won't regret this later). I cut off the first eyelet of each shoe, and a little bit of the tongue that had some of my blood on it. So that sucked. But I was talking to Hood about his Tubing Modification, and I want to give it a try when I get some time and the materials and everything. So my session was cut short, but I had a good run... I think it was

Pixie>Pixie>Legover>Legover>Pickup>Pickup>Clipper>Pickup>Clipper>Pickup>drop

So that was cool. Nothing big or anything but it felt good to hit it, since it was all both sides. I kept trying to beat my flipside clipper record. I footed 4 but it didn't feel solid enough to count.

My goals for the session tonight were:

Butterfly>Butterfly
5 Flipside Clippers
20 Consecutive Alternating Inside Stalls

So I didn't hit any of those but I plan on hitting them tomorrow night, assuming my foot heals some. I'm going to put some neosporin on it and a band aid (I HATE band aids). So... that's about it.

Good job on all your progress Dave!

Too bad about the pains, mod and mod again until they fit your feet the best.

Yeah! Mosher bag! And I found a stitcher to stitch my dream bag (baby blue hexes, pink pents) whenever I get money for it and they have time for it. And I'm excited I should be able to order Matt Cross' CD in the next few weeks, and preorder Freestyle Reality from Sam.

In other news, I found out that my dad's digital camera takes video pretty well, actually! It's 30 fps and I can record for about 2 minutes at a time, which is plenty for entering online comps. So I'm going to try to enter a few this month, just for fun. I like having videos out and showing my stuff, even if there's not too much to show!

I was too tired to shred last night so I practiced trombone for a little while, got frustrated, and then ate dinner and went to bed before 10 for the first time probably in months. Well, no nevermind. But still that's early for me.

Well, I'm at work but incredibly bored. I figured I'd update my blog. Wow I already updated it today. That's how bored I am. Anyways I've been thinking about footbag stuff.

I'm going to attempt to enter all of the online comps for this month. I hope to film some moves/combos this week just as "safety" clips to send to Nic in case I don't have time or can't hit the stuff I really want to.

I want to go to a few jams/tourneys this year. I want to go to WV JAM 2 (Yeah!!!) but I need floorspace and/or a few more people to go with me, since it's looking like it'll just be me and that would suck but I really want to make it. And I also want to go to Funtastiks. I'm thinking of possibly hosting a jam in North Carolina, and I e-mailed Joshua about it yesterday and he thought it was phat. I'm not sure if we will, but I'm thinking we might shoot for next spring? If anyone would actually be interested in coming to an NC jam, let me know by posting here or PMing me. Or if anyone knows how to help with such a thing.

Anyways for now I'm just looking forward to getting my new mosher bag and a pay check so I can get a few other things.
