Actually, yeah, I completely forgot about that. I still haven't seen Episode 1 all the way through since the first time I saw it, I think. (Maybe one other time) -- I won't try to argue that Hayden Christiensen(??) is better, though. Both were bad, but I think the younger one is more forgiveable :p
I saw the older Anakin actor on some talk show and he wasn't very good there either :(

I'm watching some of #1 right now, though, and for one it BEGINS well. It doesn't open with horribly acted lines like the 2nd and 3rd movies.

I wouldn't say I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but I'm definately a fan. I watched the movies religiously with my family when I was growing up too. I remember we taped them off of TV (and still watch the tapes!). We missed the first half an hour of A New Hope, and until some day in grade 6 I had never seen the first half hour of the 4th movie!!! I always just thought it started around the time when R2D2 and C3P0 were being sold to Uncle Owen. I still don't think I have ever seen the special editions all the way through. I will wait for the wholed series on DVD! :D
I remember, though, we used to borrow the neighbours' VCR to tape TV and watch movies, because we never owned one, and when we watched Star Wars (all the time! -- the Jabba's subtitles cut off in the fullscreen edition...) we would always take turns crawling up to the TV to fastforward commercials, because this was before remote controls were standard @________@

oh man, i just realized you are totally right. the beginning of Ep. 1 really is pretty good, and when i first saw it, it was even better! the first time i saw the...oh damn, i CANNOT remember their names!! the uh...droids with the shields...dangit, first person to remind me gets some MAJOR props. but yeah, when i first saw the scene with those...awesome. the light saber work...everything, had such a new look to it, much more crisp than the old stuff. eventually through episodes II and III i guess the innovation got a bit more old...but at the time it was real good. wow, if they had worked a bit more on keeping the action good and a lot less horrible scenes and acting, that movie coulda been really good....

Destroyer droids?

*EDIT* I just finished reading The Phantom Menace yesterday and it was cool to read. I love all of the episodes, personally. Since I started reading up on Star Wars some I'm going to read straight through the rest of the episodes, but with the *other* books in between each episode. And I'm starting with Cloak of Deception, which I started today (Two books before The Phantom Menace). So I'm excited about that. And there's this timeline called Star Wars Timeline Gold that is over 1000 pages of shit about Star Wars. I read some of that, it's absolutely amazing. Y'all should check that out. There's a lot more to Star Wars than just the movies.

I'd have to say that I was pleased with Episode III because I got to see Darth kick some ass, then get his ass beaten to a nubby pulp by Obi-Wan. It's win, freakin' win, baby!

I watched the movie 2 nights ago. I enjoyed it, but probably not as much as the first 2. I agree with Blackend that i was pleased to see Anakin kick some ass then get his ass kicked by Obi-Wan.
