Something that really bugs me about competative footbag is peoples desire to win. Yes it can be a great motivation to improve etc. and if you want to go far you need it - but at the same time people who aren't happy competing against people who are much better than they are or get disheartened when they get beaten by somebody who is a lot better just shouldn't compete. If you're in that situation you'll probably never feel comfortable competing. In all sports there are people who are better than you are - often by a lot. Usually because they've been playing longer, are older and more dedicated to the sport. You have to accept that they are better than you. There is no shame in getting beaten by Jorden in a competition - but in my opinion there is a lof of shame in being too scared of losing to compete against him. If you want to get good at any sport you have to push yourself - that means aiming higher than your ability - trying to get to the top level. By competing with people who are better than you you get a lot more motivation to improve - because you need to to be competative. Competing with people of a lower standard means you don't need to improve so much and you don't need to push so hard.
My point is - if people don't want to compete with players who are better than them - that's their problem - they should probably stop competing completely.
What do you think of the current rating system ?
Ya I think just being in a competition with a player like Jorden is an honor. I mean how many people can say that they have competed against one of the best people in their sport? Do you think if high school basketball players got a chance to play against an NBA team, they would turn it down because they would lose? No way.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

You have a good point. And you do too Jeremy.professor wrote:Ya I think just being in a competition with a player like Jorden is an honor. However, I dont feel we are getting any closer to the solution.
The voting for this month is pretty much done. So whatever system we come up with it will take effect next month.
That is about 23 days from now.
The Options
1. Tom's point system. Give as many players as you want a number of points (1 to 10).
2. Dropdown box voting page where you must rank all players by selecting their names from appropriate dropdown boxes.
3. Dropdown box voting page where you can rank as many players as you like.
4. Divisions (IMO this solves nothing, just more videos to make and download and most people wont look at the intermediate comp anyway)
Cast your vote or opinion! Which alternative should we follow though on?
I vote for option #1.

I don`t really understand options 2 and 3. Also, considering how 2/3rds of the poll respondents said they`d like a system where they vote for the top 3, could that maybe be an option? Excuse me if this option was implied in Option #3, but it was unclear to me. Personally, I`d favor a system where we vote for the top 3 combos/tricks, but I`m somewhat flexible.BalinorNZ wrote: The Options

As for Tom`s option, it doesn`t really work unless you vote for all entrants, and that brings us back to the issue of time that I brought up initially.
I also agree with Ben and Jer(em)y, that people shouldn`t care whether they win or lose. It`s about fun. If I had a camera, I`d enter every comp, even the intermediate ones, just to participate.
Seriously! And if they played the Atlanta Hawks, they`d even have a good chance at winning!professor wrote:Do you think if high school basketball players got a chance to play against an NBA team, they would turn it down because they would lose? No way.
Sorry Ken, I am jumping the gun a little. I kind of assumed there would be little point in having a set number of people that should be voted for. The compeditors would probably get more feedback and we would get more votes if we let the voter choose how many people they want to vote for thats what option 3 is all about
.
Can you see any harm in this aproach instead of forcing everyone to rank top3 or top5?
