Thanks for the birthday wishes Jackbag, CIC Flurry, and QuantumBalance. 
My birthday weekend was Great.
I'll make this short since I have to leave my house in a little bit.
Sunday: Got up for work at 8am and was there from 8:30-11:30ish. Left for the city (San Francisco) and got there around 1pm. Tuan wasn't able to kick. Sunil, Ahren, Tu, and I kicked from about 1:45 to 4pm. There was a short Metallica sing along, and then we saw Eric Wulff and talked with him for a few minutes. Then we ate dinner and left for Vegas on a whim.
Left for VEGAS? Yea, we left at 7pm. We just went in to get directions, change clothes, shower and then we left. Mapquest says it's a 10 hour drive but for some unknown reason there was NO traffic (and my car didn't break down) so we got there at around 4am. We thought we would stay there from 5am to 10am, but we ended up staying for a few hours more. Yes, we all had some fun. Yes, what happens there stays there.
They were VERY generous with their time and agreed to drop me off in Santa Cruz instead of having me drive to the city and drop them off then driving back down. Jennie (sister/roommate) has been looking forward to my birthday since before I moved out here. So when I left for Vegas I knew I would be getting back later in the day on my actual birthday, but I hadn't realized that we would stay so long in Vegas and I wouldn't get home until around 11:30 if I drove the guys to the city. So my car is an hour and a half away from me right now.
Last night at the bars... crazy... well... what happens in Santa Cruz stays in Santa Cruz? Yeah, we'll go with that.
How do I get my car back? It would be a long bus ride to the city to get it, but life is just making this weekend (it's still the weekend for me) work out so well. Matt M. (I'm just going to call him Matt from now on because I don't see Matt Kain that often) is going to Stanford with me today. He agreed to drive and is bringing his friend McKai (sp). He offered to drive me the rest of the way to the city to get my car once the session is over. How perfect!
The living life part of my birthday was great but so was being able to talk to so many of my friends (footbag and non-footbaggers) on the phone is such a short period of time. Between the phone calls, text messages, PMs, e-mails, postcards, presents, and posts on the forum, I felt really loved and I appreciate it so much. Thank you for thinking about me and showing it.
ALSO- My friends in OOPS! sent me a great present: a very nice letter and a new Abshire bag.:D How nice are you guys? Very.
OOOH, yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Although the Vegas trip was 100% footbag free (except some car conversations), I did play with Sunil, Tu, and Ahren before we left on Sunday, which I have already said above. I love playing with those guys. I remember at the birthday session for the Stanford club when I was kicking with Ahren:
Ahren: "Have you ever tried whirl?"
Me: "No, people say that I shouldn’t try hard tricks."
Ahren: "I think you can do it. Just try, you start it like this..."
He broke it down and showed me how to do it, and I hit it for the first time on that day.
On Sunday:
Ahren: "Have you ever tried torque?"
Me: "No, I'm sure too hard for me."
Ahren: "I think you can do it. Just try, you start it like this..."
And I hit it twice for the first time on that day. The three of them (Sunil, Tu, and Ahren) gave me such good advise for how to make it better, and it helped so much. My knee felt a little off after the session (and the two 8.5 hour car ride/drives and walking up and down the Vegas strip didn't help) but it feels fine now.
I tried (but didn't hit) whirl>drifter>torque. I droped when trying the torque. But how cool is that to be able to even try that combination? Very cool.
Before I was hitting drifter with any consistency (once warmed up for each session) I remember writing (either in here or in my footbag journal notebook) that my big goals are to be able to hit DLO, drifter, and torque. I have now hit all of them, but cannot hit DLOs ever anymore. I'm sure I'll drop a ton of times before being able to hit torque again, but again, just knowing that it's something that I will be able to do it- Oooohhh, I love that feeling.
Still, my goal at the moment is to start doing decent length tiltless strings. That needs to get much better, but it'll come soon enough with more frequent playing over the summer.

Thanks for the posts, fellas. I really appreciate knowing that people read my blog. I'm sure I would still write in it even if no one posted back, but it's still nice to have the company here in my blog occasionally.
Today I went to Stanford with Matt and his friend. They both liked 4-square a lot. I played (freestyle) really poorly today. My strings were super short and my knee still hurt from the session on Sunday so I couldn't even do clippers well on that side because the angle of the knee made it too painful for it to work. I hadn't met Dustin Rhodes before today. He is fun to kick with and a very nice person. I was very happy to see him stand when he voted.
Too tired to think or really finish this post so I’ll end it right here.

My left knee was sore in general after the session last Sunday (a week ago) but I also had a sharp, very strong pain when I moved it in certain ways. Then on Tuesday when I played it still felt a little off so I mostly played 4-square. During the week the pain didn't go away, and I had no idea that it got as bad as it did. Right now it hurts when I walk. I'm really disappointed because I was going to do my first school footbag demo tomorrow and it would have been with Sunil, Tu, Ahren, Carol, and maybe others. How fun would that have been? Don’t answer that. 
Now, tomorrow I have to make an orthopedist appointment instead. I can't hit clipper with that leg, much less link tricks. It feels like bone grinding against bone, it hurts so much. I’ve never had a pain that feels like this. Stupid me, hurting myself all the time… 
I also had plans to go kick a few times with the city guys later in the week, and it would have been especially fun. More on that later. [whine]
Footbag is sexy. *disclaimer* I may be lying to humor people on this forum. *disclaimer2* I am.
Edit: And I have to replace the exhaust system on my car.

Shucks...
I went to the orthopedic doctor today. My left knee cap is at a weird angle when my leg is straight, and when I bend the knee it moves an angle which makes it rub against another bone which is the reason it hurts. What caused it? Repetitive bending of the knee. My other knee cap is also at an angle which is not normal, but it's not causing a problem yet. Why am I super disappointed? Not only did I miss the footbag demo, but this week Peter Irish (who I've never actually played with) is going to be in San Francisco and I was going to play with him and the rest of the city crew.

I'm also having problems with my hamstrings. The doctor's assistant (who called them “hammies”) was a little horrified that they're so tight. I've been stretching but it's not enough. They gave me exercises to help with both problems plus an anti-inflammatory for the left knee. “Besides the stretching, try to avoid any unusual stress or unnecessary movement over the next few weeks.”
Edit: I do have to replace the exhaust system on my car. The stupid Midwest road salt destroyed the underside of my car.

Hey again.
The bad thing about my week was that I had to avoid walking. I had to sit down a lot to rest my knee. It gives me problems just being on it, not just when I'm walking. I decided to try going for a very short walk yesterday because I hadn't tried just walking with a consistent pace for a while. The walking part was fine. When I decided to see if I could jog very lightly, it started to hurt just a little bit after less than a minute so I stopped. I've been doing the exercises and stretches.
I don't have the urge to play footbag physically, but I still picture doing strings in my head.
I got a new hard drive this week as a birthday present. I can download videos and music again. My hard drive was a 10 and completely full so my computer was very unhappy.
Next weekend Chris, Sam, and Bryan are coming to do filming and record my voice overs for Freestyle Reality and filming for something else too.
The good thing about my week was that I hadn't been checking modified too much recently because I had a friend in for a week from back home. I love being a tour guide now. I love showing people the things that took my breath away and made me fall in love with Santa Cruz and California in the first place. We went to the Boardwalk, some classic Santa Cruz eateries including Pizza My Heart and the Wiener Schnitzel, my community school campus, the drive in movie theatre twice, The Mystery Spot, shopping downtown, the beach and watched surfers then went to the tide pools and saw some ocean critters. We also stayed in and watched some movies in my room. The full moon summer solstice was on Monday night so we went to Moon Tribe's party which was on a beach up highway 1. The culture shock was obvious but understandable. He was really open minded to the idea that people at that party don't dance to look good, they dance to enjoy the way their bodies feel to move in whatever way they dance, and that's not what he's used to at the clubs in Illinois. The beach was far away from everything so the DJ's got to turn the enormous sound system up as loud as they wanted to. The moon was amazing over the ocean. The light reflecting over the water looked like a big white line drawn from the short to the horizon. Then the clouds rolled through and covered the moon, but we could still see the reflection right at the horizon. It was amazing, this big while shinny spot beaming down from the dark sky on the big dark body of water- it looked like heaven was shining on that spot alone. We were up until 7am so we watched the sun rise and went to the wharf and saw the sea lions lounging underneath it on the boards. After a championship speed (the card game) competition (oh yes, I stomped him) and a week of fun, he's gone now. :-/

How was my weekend? Chris P., Sam C., and Bryan F. came to Santa Cruz to visit and film for Freestyle Reality. So, AWESOME weekend.
I seriously can't wait until the movie's done and I can see it all in it's full glory. It's so funny.
We went to the forest and saw banana slugs and the ocean and saw some tide pools. Bryan saw two big crabs clawing each other. The ice cream from Marianne's was killer. We also ate Charlie Hong Kong's and Mexican food.
Bryan reminded me what it's like to have a heated discussion in person as opposed to just online. Chris reminded me what it's like to be around someone so chill that I couldn't get in an argument with him if I tried. Maybe I wasn't trying hard enough.
Sam reminded me what it's like to stomp someone at a card game. 
There was a session every day (I think) plus there were some rockin 4-square games. Dat Phan drove from SLO and within Santa Cruz, Nate Maertens (Dr. Ridiculous) and Matt Kain both came out of hiding. Unfortunately, Matt seems to have fallen into a bad state of mind because I think he is addicted to heroin. Plus he's disgustingly skinny and wants to be even more so. So he didn't play. Please, food, not drugs, Matt. I think playing footbag will help. Just seeing Pinkus do Matt's favorite move, the lap-stall, seems to have motivated Matt to come out to play next time. Chris might save Matt's life through playing footbag, what an amazing sport.
Sam, Chris, and Bryan got bitten by my cat Mowser after I had warned them all. Sam looks like a snake got his hand. Good Mowser.
My roommates invited us all to their BBQ on Sunday and the food was SO good. The next time you guys come back we'll hit the drive-in movie theatre and the Mystery Spot. I was going to say that we'll go to the mini-golf at the boardwalk too... but I'm not sure that's the best idea. Good or bad (mostly good), there were a few moments which in all seriousness, I will never forget. And as a whole, this weekend was utterly unforgettable. Thanks you three SO much for coming all the way here to hang out and film. It was so much fun getting to talk with each of you separately and hanging out as a group was the best.
I am planning on going down to LA (for the 5th time since I've lived here, the 3rd time this year) within the next month to finish voice over recording. I'm sure I'll have a bunch of fun but nothing could beat this weekend.
Another good thing about this weekend was me being able to tell random people that we all met over the weekend about Santacruzfootbag.com because Mike Hansen just finished renovating it. Before he did so, there was a "video of the day" from 2002 on the main page and it was all net stuff. The "getting started" and "guestbook" will be up soon. I'll post when they are. Pictures from this weekend will go up on the site as soon as I get them from Sam and Dat.
I was very happy last night because it was already about 2:30am and I found by looking in my day planner (I think I'm the only person alive who needs to use one during the summer ) that I wasn't scheduled this morning. So I slept in until 11:30ish. Sweet.
Last night just before 5am when I went to bed, I looked at my e-mail. I got an e-mail from a man who lives in the area and is in his early 30's who was really into footbag when he was 17-18 years old but fell out of the sport. When he was out one day, he saw someone doing some moves which he had never seen. "Since the world wide web didn't even exist when I was last footbagging I decided to Google around. WOW. Amazing! Its fantastic how far you guys have taken our sport. After a bit of research I ordered my lavers, mr. sandbag, and the abshire A-910. I got them last week and did the MOD on the shoes." So that's exciting. Everything's working out here. I'm going to get this all organized, the ball is in motion. Mirken's moving to this area in the state soon, the website's up, players are contacting me... Santa Cruz is going to have such a fun footbag scene and when I moved here there was no scene at all.

That's a great story! I'm excited about Freestyle Reality too! That SC website is cool - I checked out the pictures. Did you see how intense that little girl was watching you while you played? Pretty cool. The net pictures are cool too - hey, is that the same Jacob from Sultans of Shred? Glad to see your scene is building!
Yeah, I should have put the little story of the picture with the little girl on the site too. AJ and I were playing at the Capitola Beach and this little girl Annie and her parents were sitting near us. Annie was captivated. I had probably the best run of my life and right near the end she spoke for the first time in front of us and said "She's on fire!" So AJ took a picture of her watching me play, with her parent's permission, of course.I don't know if that's the same Jacob. I don't know any of the net players (except for AJ) because they ditched out every time they said they were going to be at the park.

Sorry I didn't come back to AIM on time David. I was making an appointment to see a no force chiropractor. She just had a cancellation so she can see me today. I had been having a problem with my knee hurting, it felt like a hamstring or something was way too tight. But then the pain started to go down my leg some. I also noticed that the bottom of my foot was going numb sometimes. Then the back of my calf started going numb sometimes. The orthopedist said that it could be a nerve getting pinched from me compensating when I walk to avoid pain. But then the pain started to go up my leg and last night it went all the way up. The orthopedist said that it is probably not even something in my knee, but my lower back. I don't have pain there but the muscles could be tight enough that I wouldn't feel the pain there but the same nerve would cause pain lower down, like my knee and foot. So I'm off to see her. The reason it's important for me to see someone who uses the no force method is that I'm kind of anti-chiropractor since when I was eleven just before I went to summer camp I went to a chiropractor. He cracked my neck really badly against my will and then did it again the other way after I was already crying. The initial pain did not go away decrease. Four hours later I was in the ER and they said that what he injured was causing neck spasms. I was on heavy pain killers for the next four weeks. This also meant that I had to wear a sturdy neck brace while white water rafting at camp. Sucked.

By the way Dat, I only mentioned you in there once I think, but we all really appreciated that you drove 3 hours each way and skipped your friends' party for us. It's always nice to have you in town.
