This is a thread where you can post particularly cool words in French. Post the word, then post the meaning. You can define "cool" anyway you like... personally, I`m going straight up euphonics on this one. Hopefully we can all also expand our French vocab a bit by doing this too. I`ll kick this off.
Mouchoir: handkerchief. I just think it sounds really pretty, considering what a pedestrian, even dirty object it describes. It loses all mystique if you literally translated it to Spanish: moquero.
*crosses fingers that this thread doesn`t turn out like my NBA thread.*
I would participate, but I only just finished French 1, so I don't really know any cool vocab. to share yet.
How 'bout adding the pronounciation, too?

tabernac esti! - pronounced tab-er-nac es-ti, these are swearwords in quebecois french, although they refer to religious items, because that's just how the quebec french are. colise!
L'esprit de l'escalier (Staircase wit)
French phrase for a witty remark made a posteriori, i.e. expressing the feeling of when you think of the perfect comeback, retort, or simply what you should have said, after the event or conversation is over--you've left and gone down the stairs.
(Literally: The Spirit of the Staircase)
I don't speak French, but I think it's pronounced something like : lehs-spreet de lehs-kah-lyay
Kobus Brümmer
