Napoleon Dynamite

Post by mohkale »

[mode note] - I split this topic away from another topic since it's a different issue and I thought people might want to comment on it without hijacking another topic - hence the first post is written partially in repsonce to a post on this topic - Owheelj

Totally off topic:

Hey Ben, you got that Napoleon Dynamite as your avatar. Did you actually like the movie? I saw it yesterday and honestly thought it was the worst thing I've ever seen. That movie sucks so bad...

To make this a little less off topic post:

I've never had any virus problems with Modified.

What? I didn't try to make a new topic, I tried to reply to the one about trojans on Modified.

And my Napeleon Dynamite comment was directed at Ben "professor" Skaggs since he has a picture of Napoleon D. on his avatar.

I split this away from it's previous topic about viruses and shit at modified because I felt that that's a pretty serious topic and I didn't want it hijacked.

Personally I thought Napoleon Dynamite was an awesome movie. I loved it. I think some of it depends about what kind of school you went to. I only ever went to public schools - which had a number of people just like Napoleon - so I could relate to the characters really well. My brother's girlfriend went to an exclusive all girls private school - and hated the movie because she'd never met anybody like that (and because she's elitist :P ). I'm sure like lots of movies - people will misinterpret it such as Henry's brother and think that it's having a go at retarded people but really I don't think it is at all.

One of the things I love about this movie is that the characters seem so much more real than in other high school movies. It's clearly not a movie that is just aimed at being entertaining. I think it sends a great message about tolerance and accepting people who are different. I think I'd probably rate it as the best movie I've seen so far this year - not that I've seen many good movies this year.

It had its moments, but it felt pretty scattershot. It reminded me of some Wes Anderson movies, like Bottlerocket and Rushmore, but not as well put together. Some great characters, some good scenes, but could have been a lot more cohesive.

Hmm.... I don't know. I really think a lot of it depends on who you saw it with. First time I saw it I was with two gigglish girls and I laughed my ass off, second time I saw it with some guys and it was retarded. Overall, the more I think of it the more I dislike it. So thumbs down.

I loved that movie. The fact that there was no real plot is what made me like it. I'vealways wanted to make or see a movie with no plot and when I saw this movie I felt like my dream had come true. Plus it's held in our neighboring state Idaho (MT has to try to get as much publicity as possible so excuse this last remark)

I agree with Dan. The first time I saw it I was with my 13 year old sister and two of her friends (had nothing better to do... fuck off) and thought it was pretty funny. Then, the second time I saw it I watched it with my mom who has a much more cynical sense of humor and both of us were pretty unreceptive to it. Also, the more I think about it the fewer fond memories I recollect.

Don't kid yourself Sam, you have the hots for your sisters friend, what was her name, Amy or Andrea or something. You told me about her a few sessions ago.

No I did not like Napoleon dynamite....I loved it!

I think it is pure genius. Ya, the first time I saw it there were some funny parts, but afterwards I was like... :? what did I just watch? Then I kept thinking about the lines and stuff that happened and the randomness of the movie and it just got better and better. I've seen it probably 4 times now and it is funnier each time I see it.

Ashley is right, you either hate it or you love it...but I would recommend seeing it at least twice before you make a judgement.

You might have a good point there because I saw it and loved it and I've been going to public schools since kindergarten (went to private for one year but didn't like it so left :D ) . My cousins however who go to private schools mostly didn't seem to enjoy it as much. I thought the movie was great though, it made me kind of mad that so many other people liked it though...

Yeah, never have a seen a movie that was so true about the love it or hate it. I loved it. I laugh at it everytime I think about it. I think Mokhale is just jealous that I've been chatting with hot babes all day.

I thought this would be a good time to post some of my favorite lines from the movie.

Kip: Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.

Napoleon Dynamite: Too bad, she said she doesn't want you here when she gets back because you've been ruining everybody's lives and eating all our steak.

Rex: Second off, you're gonna learn to discipline your image. You think I got where I am today because I dressed like Peter Pan over here?

Rex: Take a look at what I'm wearing, people. You think anybody wants a roundhouse kick to the face while I'm wearing these bad boys? Forget about it.

Napoleon Dynamite: A freakin' 12-gauge, what do you think?

Napoleon Dynamite: Do the chickens have large talons?

Those are just a few...but how could you not like a movie with these lines?
